Captain America’s shield sets off the metal detector at the UN building. The guard tells him that he can go ahead. Gyrich says that this is working perfectly and that with the Kang mess in the past that everyone is rallying around the Avengers. He says that it is only a temporary exchange of power, but that they all trust the Avengers. He adds, “They trust us.” Cap tells Gyrich that he is there because they need an advisor to help them sift through the red tape, but that if he thinks that they are one of them that he is wrong. Cap tells Gyrich to “drive it in the hangar.” Gyrich asks what that means and Cap says, “It means shut up.” She-Hulk says, “Whoa”. Black Panther asks She-Hulk if she is having trouble. She-Hulk says that it is no problem carrying all her books, but that the United Nations charter is a little more dense than she is used to. She-Hulk asks Panther how he manages to do all he does. Panther says that Cap needs She-Hulk’s brains and that he wouldn’t have chosen her if he didn’t think that she was up to the task. She-Hulk says that Cap always walks so confidently and asks Panther if he thinks Cap is scared. Panther just looks at She-Hulk. She-Hulk says, “Right. ‘Course not… but… I mean… what does someone do when they’re asked to lead the world? How do you respond?” Cap, Panther, and She-Hulk walk out to the near empty United Nations auditorium. Cap steps up to the podium and says, “We’re ready.”

Vision is monitoring Avengers activity around the globe. He says that Quicksilver and Photon are distributing supplies across Africa, but that with demand their supplies will be exhausted in an hour. He says that he is in contact with seventy-three of the leading food industries searching for more. He says that civil unrest in Mexico has been kept to a minimum thanks to Hercules and Black Knight. Warbird says that doesn’t answer her question and asks how Wanda is again. Vision says that Jarvis is watching over her and that he assumes she is recuperating well enough. Warbird says that for someone he cares about he is being awful cold even for an android. Vision asks who is being cold now. Vision says that he just has a lot to do.

Outside Washington D.C., Warbird and Falcon are meeting with Nick Fury. Fury says that his horoscope warned him about today. He says that there are lots of SHIELD agents in the void. Warbird says that Yellowjacket and Wasp are in there too. She says that nearly every capital city on Earth has been sucked into one of the voids. She says that someone is trying to plunge the world into anarchy. She says that Iron Man sent them there to take some samples that he can test, and that he thinks that nothing has been destroyed. Fury says that they’re broadcasting that all over the news trying to keep everyone calm. Fury is about to grab Falcon’s shoulder, but Warbird stops him and says that Falcon is working. Falcon watches as Redwing collects a sample. A mysterious figure watches them from behind a tree. Falcon says that they are ready to go. Fury asks that they let him know what is going on and to give Cap his regards. The mysterious figure says, “Nothing is between us”, but no one seems to notice as Warbird and Falcon flies off. Warbird says that everyone is always asking Falcon about Cap. She asks if he isn’t tired of being labeled as Cap’s sidekick. Falcon says that compared to Cap that they are all sidekicks.

In Belgium, Tony Stark is telling Pepper that he isn’t interested in how he can help his capital, and that right now he is there to protect Europe’s. He tells her to send the latest quotes to their SAT for download. Pepper says that she will and Tony hangs up the phone. Outside the room, Jack of Hearts and Antman are waiting. Jack wonders what is taking so long and says that he thought Iron Man was prepared. Ant-Man asks what Jack’s problem is. Jack says that it is official Avengers business and that Ant-Man isn’t an Avenger. Ant-Man says that he communicates with insects and that each insect has a particular trait. Jack asks if he is supposed to be impressed. Ant-Man says that he is just trying to figure out what kind of insect Jack is. Iron Man walks out. Ant-Man says that he needs to make a phone call regarding his custody battle for his daughter. Iron Man just says that they are needed back at the mansion as soon as possible as he walks by them. Ant-Man says that Iron Man didn’t hear a word he said. Jack says, “Does anyone?”

Iron Man walks out into the conference room. He thanks the European nations for coming. The translators start translating. Iron Man says that they are doing everything they can to determine the source of the disasters, and that he is there to help them figure out the vest way to sustain and preserve the European economy. The man from Great Britain breaks in and says that they feel it is best to suspend the Maastricht Treaty. The man from Germany says that their markets would collapse. Iron Man says that if they take away that treaty they will give up every economic and personal freedom they have gained. He says that they must remain united. The people are still bickering so Iron Man says that if they won’t listen to Iron Man maybe they will listen to Tony Stark. Iron Man removes his faceplate. He says that for those that don’t read the Wall Street Journal that he is Tony Stark. He says that in ten years he has taken his company from an idea into a multi-billion dollar business. He says that they have subsidiaries in every major country, including most in attendance. He says that now that he has their attention that they can talk business.

One mile off the coast of New York, a void appears in the middle of the water near a navy ship. They radio for help and soon the Avengers are there. Panther is flying the quinjet. He says that they have been assuming that the voids were targeting capital cities. Cap says that maybe they assumed wrong. Falcon carries Cap, Warbird carries She-Hulk, and Vision flies alone. Panther remains behind to fly the quinjet. Cap tells the others to make the evacuation quick because they have a lot to do today. Vision phases up from the ship and says that most of the people are trapped below deck. Warbird blasts a hole in the ship and She-Hulk tears the flap back. They’re pulling people out as quick as they can, but the ship is being sucked into the vortex. Suddenly the ship is forcibly stopped. She-Hulk says that something strong just shoved the ship clear of the vortex. Falcon asks if it was divine intervention. Cap says that “He’d like to think so.” Namor flies in front of Captain America. Namor says, “Hello, Captain. I have conversed with my best Atlantean scientists about these insatiable maelstroms. Dozens have opened up across our waters. We have determined that the world’s oceans will be drained dry in less than a week. Consider the Sub-Mariner back on active duty with the Avengers. And that is not a request.”

3:32 AM at Avengers Mansion, She-Hulk says that she is never going to decipher the civil rights code in Southern Asia, and that Cap is going to have to figure it out on his own. She says that she is getting dizzy and that she must be thinking too hard. She-Hulk looks at her hand and is stunned when her skin is Caucasian. Warbird asks her if something is wrong, but She-Hulk’s hand is green again. She-Hulk says that she thinks that she needs a break. Warbird says that she can’t sleep and that it feels odd to have Namor just force himself onto the team. She says that Cap didn’t seem to mind though. She-Hulk says that Namor doesn’t smell good or smile much, but that she trusts him more than Gyrich. Warbird adds quietly, “or Black Panther.” She-Hulk is about to ask what she means when both of them hear a strange scratching sound from Wanda’s room. They open the door to find Wanda hovering above her bed. Her skin is all black on one half of her body and all white on the other. A tear rolls down her eye as she says, “Nothing… is… between us.”

Wasp says that the stars are beautiful. Hank says that he doesn’t recognize any constellations. He says that the air is thick there and that he is sure that they aren’t on Earth anymore. Wasp says that they are cut off. They notice a border going up. Wasp realizes that D.C. isn’t the only metropolis there. They fly into the air and see that Hong Kong, Beirut, London, and Baghdad are all right next to each other. Yellowjacket says that it is a recipe for disaster. Suddenly they spot an explosion. Wasp says that it looks like it happened on the border of Baghdad and Paris. Suddenly Yellowjacket is zapped from the sky. Wasp catches him and asks Hank if he is all right. Giant scorpions stand over Wasp and Yellowjacket. Scorpio stands with a glowing key in his hand. Many hooded figures stand behind him. He says, “If you have questions about Yellowjacket’s future, Wasp… all you need do is ask. For I hold the Key to the Future.”

Avengers Files rating: 7 out of 10

All of the things that I enjoyed about last issue I am still enjoying. I also enjoy the fact that Namor is around now. Hopefully we’ll get to see Cap and Namor act in the wake of the Order. I like how Stark’s now public identity works for him in contrast to last issue’s problem. 4.5 for the writing. Again Dwyer has a few good shots, but it doesn’t make up for the cartoony style to me.
