Captain America collects the dog tags off of all the fallen soldiers. Vision tries to talk to Cap, but Wanda tells him to give him more time. Vision says that they have no more time to give and must move on. Cap says that he knows, but that at least their mothers will have something. Vision says that he knows Cap is as disgusted as he is that the plague originates from their own country. Cap says that he is. Vision says that these soldiers were part of it. Cap says that he may be idealistic, but that he isnt stupid. He says that at the Super-Soldier program, the Manhattan Project, and at this that the guards , and the majority of the people had no idea what they were working on. He sys that they were just following orders, and that he wants the fool that gave the orders. Jack says that he bet General Feaster knew about this all along. Cap says that they dont know if he was involved. Cap says that first they find out who it is, and then Jack can lose his temper.. Wanda finds bullet holes in the walls. She says that someone came in there trying to cause all this chaos. She says that some of the people may have been dead before the disease was let out since they were shot. She-Hulk says that they must be pretty far down, and that their comm. Cards dont work anymore. She says that they need to warn Iron Man and Warbird. She says that they dont know who made the weapon. Ant-Man says that the weapon has a name: Project Bloodwash. Vision walks up to the computer. He says that the data is scrambled and that he cant read it. Ant-Man tells him to let him try the old-fashioned way, and that he has yet to find a place he cant get into. He says that maybe he can find those responsible and get a message out. He says that maybe there is even a way to treat it. Cap says that they will see what else they can find. He tells Jack to stay with Ant-Man in case the murderers that shot the soldiers are still around. Jack says that is just great.
On the news, a reporter is standing near the Mount Rushmore camp giving information. He tries to ask Warbird a question, but she tells him to get the hell out of here! The camera goes off.
Dell Rusk, flying over the Pentagon, asks Gyrich if he sees what is happening. He says that they are putting the Avengers in charge, and that they are losing faith in them. Rusk says that the panic will just grow and grow. Rusk says that people will think that they cant handle their own problems. Gyrich says that this isnt about handling a problem, and that stopping disasters is what his team does. Rusk reminds Gyrich that he is a red-tape lapdog. Rusk says that Gyrich is forgetting another factor. Gyrich asks what that is. Rusk says, Politics. Redwing flies overhead.
At Stark Enterprises, Tony asks what they have for him. One scientist says that they have isolated the bacteria, and that it isnt that far off from group A strep. She says that theoretically the right enzyme could attack it. Another scientist says that they just got a message from Wakanda. He says that he doesnt know how they did it, but that they just gave them every file they have on this. He says that some of their enzyme formations are years ahead of theirs. Stark suddenly gets a message from Ant-Man. Ant-Man tells him to get to a terminal quickly. Stark asks Ant-Man where he is. Ant-Man tells Stark about the US bio-lab. He says that they dont know who released it yet, but that they know who made it. Ant-Man sends the data. Stark asks if Ant-Man is with Jack. He starts to remind Jack about getting back to the Zero Room, but Jack explodes that he knows he will go off like a bomb if he doesnt get back in time. Ant-Man tells him to give it a rest. He tells Stark that he just sent the main file over and to use the keyword: Bloodwash. Stark is astonished. Scott says that Stark sees what the goal was. Stark says that they were trying to kill all non-whites. Scott says that they could never crack it since people are all essentially the same. He says that as if dozens of top scientists needed to tell them that. He says that there is bad news in that there is no cure. Suddenly Scott buzzes out. Panther is standing behind Stark and says that he heard it all. He says that there may still be a way to rid the country of the weapon. Stark says that they got Panthers files, but that he would like to talk to his scientists. Suddenly a window breaks and fills the room with gas. Stark and Panther start to get people out when the grenades open up and shoot cables everywhere. They touch both Stark and Black Panther. Suddenly an electric charge knocks them both to the ground. US soldiers crash through the window and say, Avengers. By order of the Secretary of Defense you are under arrest and charged with treason against the United States of America.
Jack asks what happened. Ant-Man says that he just lost communication, and that maybe there is a safety trigger or a firewall. Jack says that he feels sick about all this. He says that sometimes he wonders why he stays on Earth. He says that he can survive in space, and that when he sees things like this that it makes him want to go back there. Scott says that there is a reason to stay and fight. He says that his reason is his daughter and that he fights to make the world a better place for her. He asks Jacks reason. Jack goes silent and holds his head. After a bit, Scott says, Jack? Jack says that he is still trying to think of one.
She-Hulk tells Cap that he doesnt seem
surprised by this. Cap says that he isnt. He says that he
is just disappointed. Cap says that he still believes that the
system can and does work, but that it just takes one idiot at the
top, hiding somewhere, to make everything fall. Wanda asks Vision
if he is okay, and that he is looking around like a bird. Vision
says that the facility is designed to kill them, and that he is
recording everything to use as evidence to prosecute. Wanda
notices the air getting thicker, and then feels a wall. She-Hulk
says to allow her and rips the doors open. Inside are around ten
AIM agents. The one with the number ten on his chest says that
they are free. AIM starts firing. She-Hulk tackles Wanda to
protect her. She says that she didnt know and wasnt
thinking. Cap says that these must be their perps, and that they
must have gotten locked in. She-Hulk punches one of them, but
takes a lot of shots in the process. She looks down and sees her
containment suit in tatters. She falls to the ground. Cap says
that she is infected, but that since her body is tougher than
theirs that she isnt decaying as quickly.
Cap drags
She-Hulk out and tells Vision to take care of the rest of them.
Vision uses his heat vision to melt all their guns. One of them
pulls the pin on a grenade and throws it. Vision tries to tell
him not to, but is too late. The grenade explodes. Vision stands
perfectly fine, but all the AIM agents are dead. Vision looks
down at them and says, I cannot help you. I cannot help any
of you.
Cap calls out to Jack. Cap says that Jen has been infected. He tells Jack to fly her out of there fast, He tells him to find Warbird. Jack says, Yeah. Yeah, sure. Im on it. Cap tells Jack not to let her die. Jack says that he wont. He flies off carrying She-Hulk.
She-Hulk starts to wake up and asks where
she is. Jack tells her to relax, and that he is taking her to the
surface. She-Hulk punches him and tells him to get off. Jack
tells her to relax and that he is just trying to help. He grabs
hold of her wrists. She-Hulk asks what he is doing to her, and to
let go of her hands. She-Hulk starts to scream in pain.
Jack holds her
as She-Hulk seems to be turning back into Jennifer Walters.
Avengers Files rating: 8.5 out of 10
Now this is more like it! The plot finally seems to move along. Seems the US has something to hide here. The Avengers are charged with treason against the United States. The culprits that released the Project Bloodwash are revealed as Aim, but who could they be working for? Could it be . Dell Rusk? Could be. She-Hulks problem adds some more drama to the story with a grim reminder of In-Betweeners prophecy that one of the Avengers would die. Coipel does a much better job with this issue. His facial expressions really come through in this issue, and some of his presentation is just awesome. AIM never looked so menacing before. 4.5 out of 5 for the art.
