The Crawling Unknown

Senator Morton Clegstead was the man who started the funding for Project Greenskin, also known as the Hulkbusters. Of course he did have alterior motives for wanting the Hulk captured. Long before Jennifer Walters received her blood transfusion to turn her into the She-Hulk, Morton Clegstead thought to use the Hulk's blood to cure his cancer. A sort of extremely aggressive radiation therapy. The transformation being psychological is very interesting in this case. Perhaps Morton thought of it as an extension to the horror of his cancer, but just maybe Morton thought of himself the same way many feel about politicians- as slime.

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #145- behind the scenes- Ross is pleased that he has finally gotten the funding to start Project Greenskin.

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #150-Hulk fights against the soldiers that are only come for him now. They try to gas Hulk, but Hulk grabs one of their masks and leaps out. Hulk sits up on a big rock and decides he wants to find Jarella. The army finds Hulk the next day and the fighting resumes until they receive an order to halt until there is an investigation on Project Greenskin. Roger Dutton is investigating Morton Clegstead's Project Greenskin.

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #151- General Ross testifies in the Project Greenskin investigations. He says hulk escaped because he allowed Banner to participate scientifically in the process of curing himself. Clegstead comes up to congratulate Ross because his testimony got Project Greenskin's funding re-instated. Ross blows him off because he finds Clegstead odd. Clegstead's true motivation for establishing Project Greenskin was to allow his doctor, Dr. Lathrop, to sneak a sample of the Hulk's blood. Clegstead is dying of cancer and he thinks the Hulk's blood might act as a type of intense radiation therapy. Clegstead is injected. Bruce reads a paper on a train headed to Washington. A rude janitor cause Bruce to hulk out. Hulk fights the police. Clegstead is feeling so strong he thinks he should go appear at the scene. Dutton confronts Clegstead, but Clegstead smacks him aside. Clegstead's car arrives, but the Crawling Unknown emerges. The Unknown burns Hulk like an acid. Hulk gets free, but the Unknown keeps coming for Hulk no matter what Hulk throws in its way. Hulk throws a lomg metal lamppost into the blob. Lightning from the storm burns up the Unknown. Hulk walks away.
