Max "The
Hammer" Stryker
Max "The
Hammer" Stryker was the king of crime before the Kingpin
came to prominence. Max Stryker has his gang break Boomerang out
of prison so that he'll do a job for him. Stryker wants Boomerang
to force Bruce Banner to use his experimental healing gamma cure
to fix his cancer. Boomerang kidnaps Kate Waynesboro, Banner's
girlfriend. Banner cures Stryker and Stryker tells Hulk where to
find Kate. Hulk gets distracted for a week in the Secret Wars,
but when he returns and rescues Kate he finds that Stryker is
using his gamma cure freely. But then they discover that the dog
Banner tested his cure on before using it on Stryker went beserk
and had to be killed. When Max hears this he freaks out and
changes into a monstrous form. Hammer begins attacking Hulk which
feuls Hulk's anger. The anger cures Hulk's broken leg, but as the
fight goes on the savage Hulk emerges. After that Hammer was
beaten unmercifully. Rom comes and erases all the gamma from the
people Stryker affected and then Hamemr himself. The Hulk is
unaffected, as his genes were permanantly altered long ago, so
Rom has to physically involve himself to keep Hulk from killing
Max Stryker.
