Kalkhimithia
Kalkhimithia is
a land in Greece that was subjected to "Essence of
Hulk" cologne by Diablo. Diablo was using Kalkhimithia as a
distraction to get the Avengers out of the mansion. They
eventually form into one giant monster that the Avengers and the
Hulk must contend with.
Avengers vol. 3 #38- It’s night in Kalkhimithia, Greece when a shadowed man (who looks remarkably like Diablo) snaps a vial containing a green liquid. The liquid turns into dust as it hits the air. The dust is blown over all of Kalkhimithia. As the day goes on the people of Kalkhimithia’s tempers seem to get worse and worse. Eventually fighting begins on the streets. Later still it is all out warfare in the streets. Nobody fights with guns and knives however…everyone seems to be content with using their fists and clubs. Later still the fires burn freely in Kalkhimithia, and the only noise that can be heard is animalistic growling. Finally the situation is brought to the attention of the Avengers by their delegate Duane Freeman. He flashes them an image from Kalkhimithia. All they see are various hulks pounding on each other. The Avengers fly to Kalkhimithia.
Avengers vol. 3 #39- One of the gamma creatures has some people cornered when Thor’s hammer smashes it in the face. The Avengers have arrived. All of the transformed monsters look up at them. Captain America suggests that they herd the monsters together. The monsters attack and Thor says that the time for talk is over as he hits one that had jumped at them. Wasp breaks the Avengers into three team centered around Thor, Vision, and Iron Man. Goliath starts analyzing the situation. Iron Man uses sonics. Vision becomes super dense and then phases through all the hulks that come to pound on him. Thor says that while the hulks are strong they lack the cunning and spirit of the true Hulk. Goliath discovers the dust that transformed the people. He finds that they are all celluarly similar. He kicks two Hulks together and they merge into one larger hulk. Pym gets the idea to merge all the hulks together and then shrink it with Pym Particles. As the Avengers merge the hulks together SHIELD contacts Hank Pym and says that the dust comes from Middletown. The hulks begin to merge themselves. Goliath tries to shrink them, but the particles don’t work. All the hulks turn into one giant hundred foot plus tall hulk. It steps on Pym’s unshrunken lab.
Avengers vol. 3 #40- The giant beast strikes the ground, but the Avengers dodge the punch. Iron Man blasts the beast, but without effect. As the Avengers fight the giant gamma beast in Kalkhimithia they get a call from Doc Samson and Bruce Banner. Bruce says that he wants to help them defeat the monster. Quicksilver runs across the ocean to go get Bruce Banner. Wasp tells them to keep the monster as occupied as possible until Quicksilver gets Banner there. Thor smashes the thing in the face with his hammer, but the monster quickly recovers and swats Thor. Vision blasts the thing with an eye blast. The beast is blinded. Quicksilver gets Banner over to Kalkhimithia. Banner talks with Hank Pym and says that maybe they could revert the creature with his old gamma electrodes or a cathexis ray. Pym says that they don’t have the time or the equipment. Pym points out that normally each mutation is unique, but that everyone in Kalkhimithia became a hulk. Pym thinks that it is Bruce’s transformation that was forced on them. Pym has Bruce transform into the Professor. Warbird and Iron Man fly Hulk up to the beast’s head and throw him on. Hulk says that it is a switch for him to be the bug getting swatted. From the ground Scarlet Witch casts a spell that she has been working on for a few minutes. Hulk phases into the monster’s head. Hulk has so many voices in his head. He transforms from Professor into Mr. Fixit, and eventually into the Savage Hulk. Eventually Hulk takes over the communal mind and forces the people of Kalkhimithia to return to normal. The Avengers lower the falling people to the ground. They then find out from Wonder Man, Triathlon, and Silverclaw that Diablo just transformed the people to create a diversion.
