Aries
Aries is Grover
Raymond, and was a super-villain in his own right as part of the
Zodiac, but when the opportunity for great power came along Aries
jumped on it. Aries gained his ionic power through the merging of
his body with the power of Lucifer. Although it would hardly be
considered beneficial for him as he nearly dies from it, and it
also caused his later killed corpse to be dug up and siphoned.
Avengers #120-
Avengers #121- Atop a building
Aries stands behind Taurus as they have their star-weapon aimed
at a downed Mantis. The weapon is designed to kill all Geminis.
Mantis isn’t a Gemini, but her empathy powers make her as
vulnerable to the effects. While they talk Scarlet Witch puts a
hex on the weapon and destroys it. The Zodiac attack Thor, Iron
Man, Vision, and Scarlet Witch. Captain America arrives. Aries
picks up Mantis, and holds her over his head. Aries tells Cap
that his arrival is too late because while their weapon is gone
so is Mantis. He throws Mantis off the building. Vision dives off
the building to save her. Vision drags his hand across the
building’s face seriously damaging it. The Avengers rush to
save the building, and the Zodiac climb into their ship and
leave. Back at the base Aries yells at Taurus. He says that the
botched plan proves that he should be the one to lead the Zodiac.
Taurus says that if Aries wants his job he will have to take it
from him. They ram their heads together. Aries asks for a moment,
but Taurus says that Aries called this match and now he can call
a doctor. Taurus
rams Aries down. Taurus says that he rules the Zodiac.
Aries submits, but thirty minutes later he has some of the other
Zodiac in his quarters. Cancer notes that Gemini, Capricorn, and
Virgo aren’t there. Aries explains that they are loyal to
Taurus, but for the rest of them Aries proposes a revolution.
Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Aquarius, and Leo join up.
Libra, as the balance, decides to remain neutral. Aries gets on
the phone to begin their plan. Aries calls Cornelius Van Lunt,
who financed the Zodiac since their original incarnation, and
agrees to meet with them. Van Lunt gives them directions to one
of his warehouses and tells them to be there at dawn. The next
morning Thor spots the Zodiac going there. Thor summons the
Avengers. The rebelling Zodiac ask Van Lunt for funding to create
a new arsenal since Taurus controls the other weapons he
designed. The Avengers break through the window. Aries says they
don’t have time for this. Iron Man punches Aries and says he
will get each of them 30 years. Suddenly all the windows slam
shut with steel plates. Aries tells Iron Man that he doesn’t
know what’s happening. Van Lunt appears on a view screen.
Aries asks how much Taurus offered Lunt. He reveals that he is
Taurus. Taurus presses a button and launches the
“warehouse”, really a rocket.
Avengers #122- Everyone is pressed down by the force until the rocket is in outer space. The steel shutter retract revealing that they are in orbit. Aries says that Iron Man and Thor can fly them down. Iron Man says that it isn’t glass in the windows, but a force field. Thor throws his hammer through it, but the hammer doesn’t make it back through and Thor leaps for cover as he reverts to Don Blake. Pisces and Aries take note, and they decide that they need to strike now to defeat them. Aries blasts Vision. He then turns and blasts Iron Man who is guarding Thor’s secret identity. Vision gets back up and knocks the weapon from Aries’ hand. The fight is ended. Wanda uses a hex on the field. Iron Man gets out. He pushes the rocket back, but they start to burn up on re-entry. They are saved by Libra, who has knocked out the Gemini loyal to Taurus, and freed his brother, and then stole the starship. They go back to the Zodiac base. Taurus tells the renegade Zodiac not to let their differences destroy their future. Taurus says that even if they side with the Avengers and win they will be jailed. Aries answers Taurus by blasting Thor. Iron Man hits Aries. During the fight Taurus is knocked into the pool. Taurus says he cannot swim and yells for help. Mantis arrives and saves Taurus. Libra reveals that he only saved the Avengers because he thought that Mantis was with them and he is her father.
Avengers #123- behind the scenes- The Zodiac are turned over to the authorities except Libra who tells his tale.
Ghost Rider #7- flashback- The courts swiftly deal with the Zodiac sentencing them to life sentences. Van Lunt launches an appeal, but only for himself.
Captain America #177- Lucifer
has come to Earth from his dimension, and merged with the body of
Rafe Michel, but he finds that his power is too powerful for one
human to house. Lucifer says he has to transform half of his
power to another body. Lucifer senses the perfect canidate inside
the prison. Lucifer bursts through the door, and defeats the
guards. Lucifer rips the bars off the cell of Aries, and tells
him that he has come to offer him this kind of power as well.
Aries says that he is buying what Lucifer is selling. The power
flows between them both. Now 
instead of Aries and Lucifer there stands two Lucifer.
The Falcon hears the voice of Lucifer, but finds two of them.
Lucifer goes to blast him, but finds that halving his power has
cost him the ability to use ionic blasts. One Lucifer swings and
misses Falcon, and the other hits Red Wing. Falcon turns to see
Red Wing, but is knocked out for his trouble. The Lucifers leave
in a car that warns them that the police are coming. The car
takes them to Morgan, who runs the rackets in Harlem. Morgan says
he wants them to kill Falcon for him.
Captain America #178- Falcon is feeding Redwing when the
Lucifers attack. Falcon turns to punch one, but doesn’t see
the other that kicks him to the ground. Lucifer says that it is
too bad that his partner Captain America has deserted him.
Suddenly Redwing flies into the face of one of the Lucifers.
Falcon hits the Lucifer in the body of Rafe. The more powerful
Aries body throws a chunk of chimney at Falcon. Falcon ducks and
kicks Lucifer into an electrical wire. The Rafe Michel Lucifer
wants to fight, but his alter ego convinces him to flee and fight
another day. Later Morgan yells at the Lucifers for failing to
kill Falcon. They explain that all the powers except super
strength were lost when they halved their power. The Aries
Lucifer starts to defend themselves when the Rafe Lucifer points
out that he was first chosen of Lucifer. Aries Lucifer points out
that Rafe was only chosen because he was on hand. Rafe
Lucifer’s head hurts. Aries Lucifer explains that he is
going to get Lucifer’s items from his southwest desert
laboratory. They fly to the base Lucifer used in X-Men 21. Rafe
Lucifer notes again that Aries Lucifer should not treat him as an
inferior since they are both Lucifer. Aries Lucifer points out
the three ultra robots that he never had a chance to use. Rafe
Lucifer asks what Aries Lucifer has planned. Aries Lucifer mocks
Rafe Lucifer saying that they are equals and surely he has
developed the same plans. The next day Aries Lucifer admires his
robots terrorizing Harlem. Rafe Michel’s head hurts again.
Falcon arrives, and Steve Rogers is watching as Falcon is blasted
in the back. Steve (who had given up being Cap) runs in and buys
a ski mask to hide his face. As the Lucifers stand over an
unconscious Falcon, and Rafe Lucifer admits that Aries Lucifer is
more bold 
than he is. Aries Lucifer is about to blast Falcon when
the masked Steve Rogers tackles them from behind. One of the
robots attacks Steve. Steve tricks the robots to destroy each
other. Rafe Lucifer grabs Captain America, but lets him go when
his headache becomes unbearable. Rafe drops over dead. Aries says
good riddance, but doesn’t realize that their fates are
linked. Aries drops over dead also. Lucifer returns to his limbo.
Iron Man #184- Aries, and the other Zodiac, are on a video conference call with Van Lunt. Taurus says that he is going to kill Iron Man. Van Lunt learned that James Rhodes was Iron Man. He plants a bomb on his moving truck engine, but when some kids are stealing auto parts Jim discovers the bomb. Taurus contacts Aries to help him and kill Iron Man for him. Taurus has Aries follow a transmitter he put on the truck. Aries says he owes Van Lunt one, but doing this will make Van Lunt owe him one. Aries puts up a detour sign, and then lines the road with magnesium strips that Aries will trigger to start the van on fire. A cop catches Aries setting them up. Aries knocks him out with a headbutt. Jim Rhodes says that he feels paranoid, but when he sees no reason for the roadblock he flies up ahead in his Iron Man armor. He sees Aries and flies down in front of him. Aries lights the strips on fire. Iron Man walks through the fire, and asks if that is it. Aries rams his head into Iron Man’s chest, and falls over unconscious. The cop wakes up and calls for a squad car to pick Aries up.
West Coast Avengers vol. 2 #26- Aries sits around a table with the other Zodiac as Cancer tells them that the Life Model Decoys, or LMD’s, that replaced them previously have returned. Taurus says that they have to “circle our wagons” and be prepared for anything. Scorpio stands up and says that it is too late for that. Scorpio then reveals that he is really an LMD. All the other LMD’s charge in. Scorpio hits them with a blast killing the human Zodiacs including Aries.
Iron Man annual ‘99- Aries is named on a list of ionic powered individuals who are dead. Later Dr. Rivera contacts Stark that Aries is buried in Long Island Cemetery. Stark heads there because Rafe Michel, who was also dead and buried, was dug up for its ionic energy. Iron Man gets there to find that the body has already been dug up and drained. Iron Man hits a tripwire on Aries’ body that triggers Nefaria’s boobytrap.
