The Origin of Wonder Man

Simon Williams owned a company that produced munitions for the government. Simon might have been the nicer of the two Williams boys, but he was a lousy businessman (or perhaps it was just that his competition was Anthony Stark) and Simon was caught embezelling money from his own company. Enchantress and Executioner caught Simon coming out of a courtroom and offered him a chance to get even with Stark.

Baron Zemo revealed his latest invention: an ionic ray machine. He exposed Simon to ionic energy and permanently altered Simon's life (or lives as he has died a few times) forever.

Simon could tell immediately that something odd was happening to him. His insides were being replaced with pure ionic energy.

Zemo's procedure left Simon with immense superstrength and invulnerability. There are other superpowers as well, but they wouldn't be revealed to Simon until a later date.

The machine was designed specifically for Simon Williams and was atuned especially for his body.

Baron Zemo finishes his experiment and leaves Wonder Man a living dynamo. Zemo doesn't deal with disobediance well and made Simon with a fault that required a formula from Zemo to keep him from dying. Even though he was one of the more powerful mortals alive Simon was still a slave to Baron Zemo.
