Mephisto vs. #4- Mephisto has been trading soul in a careful scheme to gain the soul of Thor. Hela has been taking mortals into Hel, and to get even with her he wants her long coveted prize- the immortal soul of Thor. Mephisto goes with his current slave Rogue. He teleports to the scene where Thors body lay mangled from the fight with the Midgard Serpent. Mephisto has Rogue touch Thor absorbing his soul. Mephisto places Thors soul within a mystic mylar. Both coasts of Avengers have been called in as Thor was there, but was then surrounded by a wall of flame. Hela arrives and weakens Mephistos walls to allow the Avengers through. Hela makes off with Thors soul as the Avengers confront Mephisto. Mephisto is talking to Hela in a trance as Wonder Man tries to sneak up on him. Mephistos arm grows out and grabs Simon by the throat. Mephisto says that by right Wonder Man should be his. He was dead and being evil at the time of his death he should be his. Mephisto casts him off and knocks Simon out. Thor winds up with his soul returned to him. Hela erases the memories of the events from the heroes minds.
Thor #381-
West Coast Avengers annual #2- Wonder Man is pitching for the West Coast team. The East are down by four runs. The bases are loaded and Thor is batting with Mjolnir. Simon pitches two strikes, but his third pitch is hit by Thor. The ball is about to go out when it bounces off the Silver Surfer who just crashed into the building. Surfer explains that he discovered a plot by one of the Elders of the Universe to kill several Avengers. The West Coast team looks over and sees the East Coast team all dead. Surfer tells them that they face the deceased Grandmaster who died at the Contest of Champions. Surfer takes the West Coast into outer space to the Collectors ship. Collector feigns a distaste for Grandmasters actions. He wonders what they could do to get the Avengers back. Collector says that the only way to reach Death is to die. Simon says that a man of ions cannot die, but Collector says that everyone will time someday. The Avengers all drink Collectors poison and die except Firebird who does not die. The East Coast team comes face to face with Grandmaster in the realm of Death. He apologizes to the Avengers for the actions of his brother the Collector. He says Collector has made a deal with Death to sacrifice the Avengers for his own immortality. The West Coast team arrives and Grandmaster says that Collector has lied to them, but that they must subdue them to keep them near him for as long as they are by him Death wont take them. Wonder Man squares off against Thor. They battle back and forth until Wonder Man starts to dominate. Thor strikes his hammer against the ground. A giant lightning bolt strikes Wonder Man at the same time Mjolnir does. Wonder Man is knocked out. After all the fights are settled a dark mist starts to form. Death materializes and seems to be bound. Grandmaster laughs that he managed to get Death involved, and that thanks to the Avengers he now rules the universe.
Avengers annual #16- Grandmaster stands triumphant over Death in his bonds. He says that he must thank the Avengers for their help. It was their battle that allowed him to get the drop on Death. The Avengers mass attack Grandmaster, but now controlling the power of Death Grandmaster swats them away. Grandmaster reveals that he purposely sought to trade his life for the Collectors in Contest of Champions so that he could study Death as an opponent. Grandmaster says that his race gained sentience at the big bang, and that for millennia he has watched the game of life. Grandmaster says he wants to start a new game with him as the designer. Grandmaster then reveals that he has created five life bombs with which he will create a new big bang, but wipe out all existing life. Captain America challenges Grandmaster to a game for a chance to survive. Grandmaster summons their opposition- the Legion of the Unliving. Grandmaster zaps them away. Grandmaster turns to Death and says that unlike his previous games he will not allow his love of competition determine the outcome. Grandmaster says that no matter what the price he will win. The first life bomb is taken out as Thor whips it into an indestructible mystical vortex. Captain Marvel (Photon) destroys the second bomb. Surfer manages to destroy the third bomb. Nobody manages to destroy the fourth bomb, and a fifth of the universe dies. Wonder Man is teamed with Captain America and Wasp. Wonder Man pairs off with Hyperion of the Squadron Sinister. Hyperion hits Wonder Man so hard that he flies for twenty miles before hitting ground. Wonder Man throws a giant chunk of ice at Hyperion, but he melts it wit his atomic vision. Hyperion flies down on Wonder Man. He flies him through the planet they are on and straight into the neighboring sun. Captain America manages to destroy the fifth bomb. As the only surviving heroes Cap and Hawkeye are brought before Grandmaster. Hawkeye suckers Grandmaster in a game of chance picking arrows that is essentially a game of three card monty. Wonder Man and the others are restored to life to finish their game of baseball.
West Coast Avengers vol. 2 #25-
Wonder Man performs some stunts for the people at the
premiere of Arkon IV: The Goblin Pit. Afterwards Simon flies down
to soak up the applause. The movies director says that
Simons new black costume is much better than that Christmas
tree looking one he had. Simon puts on his coat and walks inside
the premiere. Simon sits and watches the movie with Dino, the
director, and Stacy. After the movie Simon poses for some
pictures outside. Dino tells Simon that he has his next part all
set up. Simon is supposed to be the opponent in the next Rocky
movie. Simon turns it down saying that he doesnt want to
play anymore villains since it might hurt his Avenger image.
Simon starts to leave. On their way to the Carson show Stacy asks
Simon why he stays with the West Coast Avengers. Simon says that
he has been wondering that as well. He thinks that maybe he has
gotten big enough to go out on his own. Stacy wonders why he does
the hero thing when he could make more money acting. Simon goes
into the Carson show. After the taping Simon starts to make his
way out when suddenly Tyrannus, trapped in the body of the
Abomination arrives. Tyrannus/Abomination says that he should
have been the one to rule the world, but that since he cannot he
doesnt want Wonder Man reveling in glory either.
Simons head is still big and he looks the other way.
Tyrannus/Abomination smashes into Simon, but Simon spins around
and hits Tyrannus/Abomination. Simon flies up to try ramming
Tyrannus/Abomination, but Tyrannus/Abomination leaps up and hits
him from behind. Tyrannus/Abomination smashes Wonder Man onto the
set of David Lettermans show. Tyrannus/Abomination jumps
onto Simon and grabs him by the collar. Simon punches
Tyrannus/Abomination back. Simon grabs a light and wraps it
around Tyrannus/Abomination. Tyrannus/Abomination rips through
it, but the electrical shock hurts him. Wonder Man feels
energized by the jolt and hits Tyrannus/Abomination three
successive times and manages to knock him out. Simon turns to
find that nobody is even shooting for the news. Everyone figured
it was another set up like the stunts before the movie. Simon
goes back to the compound and tells Hawkeye that he is glad to be
an Avenger.

West Coast Avengers vol. 2 #31-Phantom Rider and Texas Twister bring forth Arkon from the spirit world for revenge against the Avengers. After Iron Man flies away, the east coast Avengers call the west coasters to tell them that Iron Man just attacked the Vault. Wonder Man asks if they are kidding. They say that Captain America has the bruises to prove it and that they want answers. They sign off. Suddenly lightning strikes and the team looks up to find the real Arkon levitating above them. Arkon says that he has come to destroy him for his part in the effrontery in the movie. Simon points out that he was the villain in the movie. Arkon charges Wonder Man. The other Avengers want to step in, but Arkon stops them showing them a nuclear device that will explode if they interfere. The fight must be man to man. Simon asks if the bomb might explode while they fight. Arkon says no so Wondy punches him in the face. Arkon bats Simon around with his shield so Simon grabs it and crunches it up. Arkon hits him with a red lightning bolt. Simon dodges his charge and asks him why he is so upset with him since he was only in the fourth movie. Simon hits Arkon and recalls how he nearly beat Thor. Simon says that if the movies bothered him he should have just said so. Arkon says that talk is for women, but concedes that it might work on this world. Arkon shakes Simons hand for fighting with honor, and charges him with stopping the studios. Arkon disappears. Later they meet up with Mockingbird who was dealing with Phantom Rider.
