Wonder Man's chronology continues...
Avengers West Coast #86-
Wonder Man tries talking to Iron Man, but Iron Man blows him off
as he is studying the venom they got off Hawkeye’s shoulder.
Suddenly Deathweb trapdoors into Avengers compound. Therak hits
Wonder Man from the front while Antro hits him from behind.
Arachne plants something in the television console, and they
trapdoor out. Wonder Man is trying to pull it out when Iron Man
figures how to get it out. It shows the Avengers and
Spider-Woman’s ex-husband the Manipulator with Rachael,
Spider-Woman’s child. He says that both Spider-Man and
Spider-Woman are dead, but Rachael will stay safe as long as the
Avengers West stay away from the Liberty Convention tonight.
Spider-Man and Spider-Woman rescue Rachael. Suddenly Deathweb
teleports into the Liberty Convention, and Arachne shoves her
poison into Galvan. The Avengers were also there in disguise.
Wonder Man and Iron Man team up against Therak. Antro tries
trapdooring, but Wanda’s hex keeps them there. They are
wrapped up to be arrested. Galvan was killed by the Conclave, and
his running mate Lambert steps up to fill the void. Deathweb say
that Lambert was in on the assassination of Galvan to give a
martyr to his election.

Wonder Man #22- flashback- Wonder Man stands by
Alex's hospital bed, brooding about the fact that he never got to
tell her how he feels about her, when a nurse comes in. The nurse
says she will come get Wonder Man in the waiting room if anything
changes. The nurse turns and kisses Simon with an open mouth. She
leads Wonder Man to a strange room, and reveals herself to be the
Enchantress. She shows him disgraces of his life and asks what
causes him to be the way he is. Is it his running away to acting,
or his joining up with Baron Zemo, or his aiding Eric Williams in
embezzling from the company? Maybe it is even something else
through the door, but Wonder Man says he will never look on that
again. Simon realizes that he is not enchanted. Executioner
attacks Wonder Man saying that Simon Williams is dead, and that
he is only an imitation. Wonder Man says it was only a death-like
trance. Wonder Man says he will not serve Hela. The world breaks
apart and Simon is standing on Mephisto's hand.
Wonder Man vol. 2 #22- Wonder Man stands on
Mephisto's hand as Mephisto tells him that he will soon serve him
and he will gain control of Simon's soul. Simon says he has his
brother, but he will never get him. Mephisto shows Wonder Man
that Alex writhes on the cusp of death. He throws Simon among a
bunch of demons. When Simon stops fighting the demons disappear.
Mephisto tells Simon that not choosing doing good is in effect
choosing evil. He offers Wonder Man a necklace to join and serve
him or let Alex suffer. Wonder Man leaps to save her, but
realizes that he doesn't know where to go to do so. He agrees,
but as Mephisto goes to put the necklace on Wonder Man it is
blasted by Blackheart and the Grim Reaper. Wonder Man figures
that he has to throw in with Mephisto because he still has Alex.
Wonder Man punches Reaper. Reaper asks if he would alienate his
brother just for a woman. Simon says that he wants to kill Reaper
and rip him from his life and burn every memory and secret.
Reaper asks if he would change his tune if he held two people
dear to Simon. Reaper shows him that he has both Sanford and
Martha Williams- their departed parents. (NOTE: it should be
mentioned that Simon and Eric's mother is not dead as of this
writing. Perhaps it will be revealed at some date that these
"parents" were a trick of Blackheart)
Wonder Man vol. 2 #23- As Reaper holds their
parents within his power Martha tells Simon that he was always
the good one, and not to let her burn forever. Simon doesn't
believe that it's really his parents, but Martha reminds Simon of
the secret they kept after Simon told his mother that he hated
his brother. Reaper grabs his mother's hair. Sanford tells Eric
that he always liked him best. Reaper tells everyone to shut up,
and shocks his parents. Simon tries to grab them, but his hand
burns. Simon says that his body can't be burned, but Reaper says
all the rules are different here. They start to fight, but
Mephisto attacks Blackheart. Blackheart says he needs Reaper.
Reaper shows Simon his burned away hand. Martha tells Simon to do
whatever his brother needs. Simon joins Reaper and Blackheart
against Mephisto's demons. Reaper restores Simon's arm because
Simon is a part of him forever now. Mephisto casts them all out
of his realm. Simon is back at the hospital. He hears Alex
screaming in pain. Simon knows it is Mephisto. They all hear
Mephisto laughing. Jaime yells at Simon saying he should've been
there. Simon tries to comfort her, but realizes that he still has
Reaper's hand and cannot touch her. Simon takes off to find
Scarlet Witch so he can get back to Mephisto. Simon shouts at
Scarlet Witch to tell him how to get to Mephisto. When she
doesn't answer he realizes that Reaper's hand is killing her. War
Machine has to shoot Simon's hand, but Simon wants it off
entirely. Simon is forced to wait until the Avengers out east can
find Dr. Strange. He calls in to find that Alex is dead. Simon
starts raging. War Machine tries to calm him down, but Simon says
that Stark is the one to blame for everything- his embezzling,
his ionic powers, his being a hero. Simon eyeblasts War Machine
out of the building. He starts pounding on him. Simon says he
will show them the hand of death, and his hand reforms as a
scythe. Simon stops shocked. Reaper's face appears on Simon's
hand and tells him to stop lying to himself and come home. Simon
mutters to himself that it has all been a lie trying to pretend
he was a good person when he knew all along that he wasn't. He
says that was why he always envied the Vision because he was all
his good points without the secret. Scarlet Witch says that Simon
is staying with her tonight. In the middle of the night Simon is
getting dressed. He says he doesn't know where he is going, and
he can never come back. Wanda says that it could have been
beautiful. Simon kisses her head and says, "It was."
Simon walks outside and Reaper and Blackheart are waiting with
Simon's parents.
Wonder Man vol. 2 #24- At a movie studio Wonder
Man watches Mephisto's demons. He thinks how he is Blackheart's
demon. He dives in and beats on Mephisto's demons. Later Wonder
Man smashes through the windshield of movie executive, and
representative of Lotus and therefore Mephisto, Micheal Tabak.
Wonder Man tries to bring out the anger in him. Micheal Tabak
rages and transforms him into a large red demon. Doubt enters
Simon's mind when he thinks of destroying this dead thing in a
human form. He remembers that he is a dead thing in a human form.
His rage subsides and his powers decrease. Tabak scratches Wonder
Man's chest and ionic energy springs from his chest. Suddenly
Grim Reaper falls from the sky and kills the demon with his
scythe. Reaper yells at Wonder Man saying that he told Blackheart
that he had his ebb and flow problem in control. Wonder Man says
that the demons have no choice because it's what they are, but
they are humans and can choose. Reaper says that his humanity was
a lie, and this is his true destiny. He says that Wonder Man's
destiny is to serve him. Wonder Man freaks out and hits Reaper.
He says he will not kill for him anymore. He says he has covered
for Eric for their entire lives. Wonder Man leaps at Reaper and
kicks him in the face. Reaper says he will serve him because he
has no choice, but Simon keeps pounding on him until Blackheart
shows up with their parents. Their father says they should let
the mama's boy Simon go because Eric can handle the demon
slaying. Reaper says that he never asked to be evil it just came
and took him. He asked his father what he ever did to help him.
Wonder Man says he is sick of this and leaves. Reaper says he'll
be back because the Williams boys always come back. Wonder Man
goes to Jaime and hugs her. He says he is so sorry about her
mother, and that he will punish those responsible. The Beast
arrives saying he knew Simon would show there, and that he was
still human. Beast says he has been thinking about Wonder Man's
power and that Zemo lied to him about his powers when he
transformed him. He wants to test him.
Wonder Man vol. 2 #25- 
Wonder Man performs one of Beast's tests. By
concentrating he causes his thumbnail to grow. Simon asks what it
proves. Beast says that it proves that he is a manifestation of
magnetically charge ions. It also proves that Simon has free
will. Beast has Simon reform the arm he lost, replacing the one
his brother forced on him. Simon says that it also proves that he
really did die all those years ago when he first fought the
Avengers. Gloria asks if maybe her mother might be brought back
to life. Wonder Man says he wouldn't know how. Beast asks what
Wonder Man's secret is to help him break from his past. Wonder
Man says it doesn't matter. Beast asks how his parents died.
Simon says it doesn't matter. Suddenly Goliath, M'Baku, Black
Talon, Enchantress, Executioner, and Baron Zemo burst through the
wall. Simon says he can never escape his past. Beast deals with
M'Baku while Wonder Man smashes the fake Zemo's face. Goliath
says there is nothing fake about him. Wonder Man dodges his
punch, and then hits Goliath. Goliath backhands him as he grows
larger. Wonder Man decides that he wants to get bigger too. They
grow and crash right through the ceiling. Goliath freaks because
Wonder Man isn't supposed to be able to do that. Wonder Man says
that he is the new Wonder Man. Goliath says that he is the
biggest one of all, and grows larger and larger. Wonder Man has
no experience at this and stops growing. Goliath grows larger
than he has ever been. He says that he can see over the curve of
the Earth from up there. Finally Goliath gets so big that his
body's ions just separate and disperse. Wonder Man shrinks back
down to his human size. He starts burning with his power. Jaime
was knocked out in the fight, and in her dream self she sees that
Wonder Man is fighting two illusions of Mephisto in the
Enchantress and Executioner. Wonder Man knocks them out with one
punch, and then turns to the Black Talon. Talon releases snakes
that teleport Wonder Man to Mephisto. On Mephisto's lap is Lotus.
She tells Wonder Man that everything in the last few months that
has caused him despair has been organized by her, that everything
he has done has been work for Mephisto. Beast asks why. Wonder
Man is both a soul who is dead and cannot die. His soul is an
immortal energy source to those who feed on souls. Reaper,
Blackheart, and the Williams teleport to Mephisto's realm.
Mephisto has Wonder Man captured as he releases demons upon
Reaper and Blackheart. Reaper tells Simon that they need him now.
Simon freaks and transforms himself into a demon-like creature.
Mephisto gives Talon Lotus' life force to strengthen him. Wonder
Man is fighting when Jaime says that she found her mother.
Mephisto tells Simon that Alex is Blackheart's prisoner. Simon
confronts about killing Alex. Simon speaks with Reaper about the
fire that Eric started when they were just little kids that
killed their parents. Simon tells Eric that he wasn't born bad,
and that he can choose good if he wants to. Reaper sacrifices
himself to save Wonder Man from Mephisto's blast. Wonder Man
comes to accept that it wasn't his fault that Eric accidentally
killed their parents. Simon says that he is human because he
chooses to be. Blackheart still holds his parents over Simon's
head, but Simon says to let them rest. Simon says he will fight
for Blackheart if he brings back Alex. Blackheart does so. Wonder
Man tackles Black Talon and starts pounding on him. Simon says he
wants Talon to take his friends out of there. Talon agrees since
he isn't getting the reward Mephisto promised. They gather up
everyone, including Reaper, and teleport back. The Crazy 8 is
there, and Simon recollects the power that he gave to them (but
not all). Simon then picks up Reaper and flies away with him to
see to his burial.
Wonder Man vol. 2 #26- Wonder Man decides that
he has to help the people of Kanem, who are developing a system
of growing food that might eliminate world hunger. They have been
having trouble with a super powered terrorist, but the American
government doesn’t want anybody going over there. Wonder Man
storms past the guards at the airport and flies off into the air.
Some F-14’s take off and attack him. Wonder Man punches a
hole in the gas tank, and then takes off. Wondy rides the plane
that he had intended to catch to Kanem on the outside. Wonder Man
arrives at the prototype farm, but the Kanem soldiers shoot him.
Wonder Man disarms them and explains that he has come to help
them. Wonder Man even signs an autograph for one of the troops.
Wonder Man turns around, and is punched in the face by the Hulk.
Through the Pantheon Hulk heard about Wonder Man’s recent
rampages and he figures that Wonder Man is there to start
trouble. After they fight for a bit a kid stands in front of Hulk
as Wonder Man is charging him. Wonder Man swerves and Hulk
realizes that anybody who would make themselves look that stupid
to save a kid must be okay. Hulk says that one of the guys says
that Wonder Man was seen last night destroying things. Hulk and
Wonder Man go off to find out who is framing Wonder Man. The guy
who accuses them is one of the bad guys and he phones ahead to
warn his allies Furor and the Plan Master.
Wonder Man vol. 2 #27- Hulk
and Wonder Man are playing coy saying they don’t see any
super-powered menaces around as the Furor sneaks up behind them.
Wonder Man quickly turns and asks Furor if he has seen any. Furor
is confused and Wonder Man punches him. Hulk says that it was
supposed to be his punch. Wonder Man say that maybe Hulk will get
lucky, and this guy will be good for two punches. Furor gets up
and hits Hulk saying he is good for much more than that. Furor
charges into Wonder Man and drives him into the ground. Hulk
advances on Furor saying he promised the Kanem army that he would
take care of it. A tank shoots Hulk and Furor hits him to the
ground. The Kanem army wants to show that they should be ruling
the country, and they figure that showing they can defeat Hulk
and Wonder Man will show their capability. Furor and Plan Master
take off to ruin the food experiment. Hulk and Wonder Man get up
after hearing the plan. Wonder Man starts fighting Furor. Hulk is
still leaping with Bornu in his hands when he sees Plan Master
Hulk goes to stop him. Plan Master shows Hulk that from his chair
he has launched missiles that are going to destroy Agrimax. Hulk
leaps off to stop them. Furor starts pounding on Wonder Man.
Wonder Man is distracted when Hulk is blown up by the missiles.
Furor knocks Wonder Man down again. Furor goes off to destroy
Agrimax, but Wonder Man gets up again. Wonder Man uses a few
moves that Captain America showed him. Wonder Man throws Furor
into Plan Master. Furor freaks and Wonder Man focuses to down
Furor. The Kanem people return and find out the military is
screwing them. Furor and Plan Master comp to Bornu’s guilt
and then disappear. Hulk and Wonder Man fix the farming
equipment, and Hulk says that he likes Wonder Man’s
attitude. Wonder Man returns home to rejoin the Avengers, and
resume his relationship with Alex. Wonder Man goes to Alex’s
apartment, but she isn’t there. Wonder Man watches the news,
and finds out that Spider has been taken from Ginger, and that
Alex is writing a screenplay about Wonder Man’s savage
period.
Wonder Man vol. 2 #28
Force Works #1
Force Works #2- behind the scenes-
Avengers vol. 3 #2- Scarlet witch is the
prisoner of Morgan Le Fey. Le Fey has transformed the Earth into
her own ideal with the Twilight Sword. As Scarlet Witch is
suspended in the air by her shackles she calls out with all her
magic for someone to hear her. Captain America hears the voice
and breaks control. He recruits Hawkeye into regaining his
memory. They go about trying to get all the Avengers back, but
that leads to a fight between those who remember, and those who
don’t. Scarlet Witch continues to send out her call across
the fabric of reality. Finally beams shoot from Wanda’s
eyes. The beams seem to open a portal and Wonder Man comes out.
He tells Wanda that it will be okay now.
Avengers vol. 3 #3
- Simon breaks a hole through the wall and saves Wanda.
Later, Scarlet Witch is relieved when she sees Wonder Man return
with firewood. She says that she thought Wonder Man might have
blinked out when she couldn’t see him, or that maybe he
wasn’t there at all. Simon says that he is real. He says
that when he died there was something there for him to hang onto
to stop him from crossing over into the other side completely so
that when Wanda was sending out the magical call for Avengers it
was enough to bring him back. Wanda asks what it was that held
Simon from moving on. Simon stammers that it doesn’t matter.
Wanda is disappointed and says that maybe they can talk about it
later. She says that they should try to make a plan to find the
others and defeat Le Fay, but that briging the dead back to life
wears her out. She turns to tell Simon she was joking, but Simon
has disappeared. Later the renegade Avengers try to get back into
the city walls, but are confronted by the Avengers still in Le
Fay’s thrall. Morgan Le Fay revels in the battle. She asks
who can challenge her. Suddenly the Scarlet Witch appears and
says that she challenges her. Wanda tries but finds that she is
coming up short. She wishes that Simon was still there, and then
suddenly he is. Simon is giant just like Le Fay and he tries to
grab the Twilight Sword from her. Le Fay shouts that Wonder Man
isn’t part of the world she created and that he can’t
be there. Simon needs more strength and so Wanda feeds him.
Suddenly all the Avengers are offering their strength through
Wanda into Simon. Le Fay redoubles her efforts and starts
striking out at those lending strength. Simon tells Wanda that
she knows what has to be done, and that as an Avenger he is still
ready to do it. Wanda knows that Simon is asking for more power
than he can handle. She doesn’t want to do it, but when she
sees Vision hit by Le Fay’s power she gets angry. She
overloads Simon and quietly begs his forgiveness. Le Fay shouts
“No”, but Simon shouts “Yes”. Simon explodes
and the world is returned to normal. Wanda sits with Vision who
was blown in half. Vision sees energy dissapating and asks what
it is. Wanda says, “That energy? That’s…Simon,
Vision. It’s Simon”. Beast asks what they are going to
do with 39 Avengers.
Avengers vol. 3 #4- Wanda stares out a window
dejected after having just told Vision that since he insists that
their marriage ended when he died that she will accept it because
she has no other option. As she sits she keeps thinking about
Simon. A faint outline of Simon’s face appears in the window
near her, but disappears when Wasp tells her that they are ready
to announce the members.
Avengers vol. 3 #5- The Avengers are confronted
by the Squadron Supreme. The Squadron are under the impression
that the Avengers are still dead because of Onslaught and that
these Avengers are imposters. Thor is being double-teamed by
Hyperion and Power Princess. Captain America asks Wanda if she
can help Thor at all. Wanda says that she has been feeling a
tickling in the back of her mind. She uses her magic and brings
back Wonder Man. Simon knocks both Power Princess and Hyperion
off Thor. The plane that the Avengers were there to rescue is
saved by Doctor Spectrum. The fight dissolves, but suddenly
because of the recent distrust earned by the Thunderbolts turning
out to be the Masters of Evil the majority of people seem to have
a doubt about whether these are the real Avengers.
Avengers vol. 3 #6- The
Avengers go to Project Pegasus to investigate the Squadron
Supreme. While there Captain America asks the guy making a new
cross-reference of villains’ modus operandi if he can see a
list of those that control minds. While there they come face to
face with the Squadron. Cap whispers to Wanda that they will
probably need Wonder Man. The hex comes much easier this time and
Simon appears next to Wanda and says, “Hiya Wanda.
What’s…oh this again.” Simon spots the Squadron
and the fight begins again. Dr. Spectrum traps Thor’s hammer
inside his energy. Simon starts to pound on Spectrum’s
shield hoping that he will either reach him or at least cause him
to lose concentration and free Thor’s hammer. Simon realizes
that this isn’t working. Instead Simon grabs Spectrum’s
force field bubble and throws him into Hyperion. Spectrum is
shaken and Thor gets back his hammer. Wanda manages to use her
magic to start to free the Squadron from the mind control.
Hawkeye discovers that the Controller was within Project Pegasus.
Simon disappears again.
Quicksilver #10
Avengers vol. 3 #7- As Scarlet Witch stares out
the window at Carol Danvers as she quits the team, because she
was confronted with her alcoholism, Wanda wishes that she had
someone to talk to. Suddenly Simon is by her side. Simon tells
her that Warbird will be okay. Wanda says that she didn’t
even summon him that time, and asks how he got there. Simon says
that he doesn’t know either. He just knows that Wanda needed
him and so he was there. Vision’s holographic body phases
through the floor to tell Wanda that the Avengers are nearly
ready to go. The Avengers are headed back to the blue area of the
moon after getting a message through their computer that the Kree
there were still a threat. Vision greets Wonder Man. Wanda
stammers for a second and then realizes that Simon has
disappeared again. When they land on the moon the Kree attack.
Wanda summons Simon again, but says that she doesn’t like
using Simon as a weapon. She thinks how Simon is a man, and that
she needs to discover their link soon. Simon plows into the Kree
soldiers. As the battle rages on the Kree begin to convert to
energy. Quicksilver realizes what the Kree are doing. He leads
the Avengers to the Omni-Wave Projector. The Kree plan to
transform all earthlings into Kree genetic duplicates for the
Supreme Intelligence. As all the Kree transform into energy Thor
tries to open up a dimensional portal. Galen Kor, the leader,
hits Thor and creates a cone of invulnerability that stops Simon
from getting Galen off Thor. Firestar manages to keep the portal
open long enough for the Kree mission to fail.
Avengers annual '98-
Avengers vol. 3 #8- During a fight with Moses
Magnum’s troops and technology Captain America tells Scarlet
Witch to summon Wonder Man for some muscle because Thor
hasn’t arrived. Wanda starts to, but then stops. She says
that Simon is a person and not a gun to be drawn when needed in a
fight. After the fight Wanda is back at the mansion. She is
feeling very lonely and needs someone to talk to. Suddenly Simon
is in her room. She asks Simon if she hexed him there, but that
she didn’t mean to. Simon says that it foesn’t matter
how he got there, only that she needed him and he is there. Simon
takes Wanda in his ionic arms and kisses her. They lay down on
her bed. Vision sticks his head into her room to see if she was
alright, but withdraws once he sees Simon and Wanda on her bed.
Avengers vol. 3 #9- Scarlet Witch comes
downstairs in the morning. Jarvis mentions that she looks radiant
this morning. Wanda is surprised. Wanda says that she was so
adrift and isolated that she accidentally manifested Simon with
her. Vision looks at her with cold silence. Cap starts the
meeting and says that Moses Magnum has stolen a seismic cannon
that will allow him to create earthquakes. Triathlon contacts the
Avengers. He gives them Magnum’s location and says that he
is involved with Apocalypse. They find Magnum and the fight
begins. Wanda is making discoveries about her powers and she is
managing to block Magnum’s power connection to the earth.
Magnum freaks out and throws a huge chunk of machinery. Wanda
tries to block it, but she is knocked unconscious. Suddenly from
nowhere Simon emerges shouting, “Magnum!” As Simon
plows right into Magnum, knocks him right out of the ship
Evangeline, and drives him into the ground he says,
“You’re…going…to…pay…for”.
Simon starts pounding on Magnum saying that Wanda had better only
be hurt. Magnum seems relieved for a minute, but then the whole
island starts to shake. He throws Simon aside. Magnum tells the
Avengers that the power over earth came from Apocalypse, but that
when he failed him Apocalypse took away his control. Magnum says
that Apocalypse has found him now, and then the earth just
swallows Magnum up. Later Wanda thinks that she has to make it a
priority to find out about Simon.
Iron Man vol. 3 #10- Wonder Man and the other
Avengers show up to help the Winter Guard and the Russian army
fight against the Mandarin’s giant dragon ship the Dragon of
Heaven. Wonder Man and Powersurge are the only ones who manage to
damage the ship, but the ship immediately repairs itself. Iron
Man brings the ship down from within.
Avengers vol. 3 #10- The Avengers are the
guests of honor at a parade. The Scarlet Witch decides instead to
go to Whisper Hill to speak with Agatha Harkness. Scarlet Witch
tells Agatha about her powers and about how she keeps bringing
Simon back from the dead. Agatha tells Wanda that if it were not
for Chtton (who was present at her birth) that she would have
been an energy wielding mutant like Magneto. Wanda asks how she
can bring Simon back to life permanently. At the parade the Grim
Reaper appears as a giant spirit. He shoots out seven bolts that
bring forth dead Avengers such as Thunderstrike, Mockingbird, Dr.
Druid, Swordsman, Hellcat, and Captain Marvel. The final bolt is
for Wonder Man. Wonder Man says, “All right Avengers,
let’s get this party started.” The fight begins and
Simon punches Goliath. Pym says that they can talk about this,
but Simon says that the time to talk was when they were alive.
The Avengers hold back out of friendship for the fallen, but the
dead Avengers do not and eventually knock all the Avengers
unconscious. Agatha tells Wanda that she is the anchor from which
Simon has held on. She tells her that he loves her more than life
itself, and that all she has to do to bring him back is to return
his love. At that moment Simon stands over the unconscious bodies
of the Avengers in triumph saying, “At last…at last the
Avengers have fallen!”
Avengers vol. 3 #11- Wanda return to Avengers mansion
via a monorail from the garage they use to the mansion. She
doesn’t see the police cordons around the mansion. The doors
to the elevator opens and Wanda sees Simon and the other dead
Avengers standing in a destroyed mansion while Jarvis is tied up.
Simon warns the others that Wanda is very powerful as they
proceed to knock her out. In Central Park Reaper continues to
revel at the captured Avengers. He says that he saw Simon going
back and forth between life and death, and knew that he could
follow him through. Wanda wakes up tied to a chair. The dead tell
her of Reaper’s plan to bathe the earth in despair causing
his power to grow in amount and scope. Wanda uses her power to
manipulate nature, and whatever she is doing the dead feel it.
Simon shouts that whatever she is doing won’t work. Wanda
says that she feels Reaper’s influence causing their anger
and hate. She says that she will free them. Simon shouts and
tries to tell Wanda that she didn’t bring him back and that
it was Reaper all along. Simon threatens to kill her. Wanda tells
him that she cannot stop him. She says that if he is the tool of
Reaper that he will have no trouble doing it. Simon reels back,
but cannot kill her. A freed Simon and the dead Avengers head
towards Central Park and free the Avengers. Agatha Harkness stops
Wanda from following them. Simon tells Reaper that his one
mistake was using Avengers, and that Avengers will always oppose
him to the end. Simon tells Eric to surrender, Reaper says that
this won’t be another chance to be the hero while he gets to
be the heavy. Reaper brings forth demons from the other side.
Wanda realizes that if she brings Simon all the way back to life
that the door between life and death won’t be so easy for
Reaper to cross. Wanda reaches out and watches Simon fighting.
She thinks about what a good man Simon is, and how she has always
known that he loved her even when she denied it because she was
married to the Vision. Simon starts to reel as Wanda begins
sending out her love for him. The other dead Avengers disappear,
but the Reaper remains because Simon is his link to the land of
the living by hatred and pain. Suddenly Wanda realizes that she
can’t force herself to love Simon, but that she always has.
Simon appears next to Wanda at Avengers mansion.
Wanda says that it is finally over, but Simon says that
it isn't over yet. Simon reaches through the portal and grabs
Eric. Eric refuses, but Simon says that Eric isn’t bonded to
him through hate, but by brotherly love. Simon pulls Eric back
through to the land of the living. Later Eric is in an asylum and
Simon is sitting on the couch by a fire with Wanda. The Vision
stands by and watches.
Iron Man annual '98- flashback- Wonder Man sits
at the Avengers meeting table. Iron Man has to reveal to the
Avengers again that he is really Tony Stark after he uses
Mentallo’s machine to wipe that knowledge from
everyone’s minds. Stark tells him quickly enough to restore
all their old memories of him as well.

Avengers annual '99- Scarlet Witch apologizes
to Simon that their lunch date will have to be postponed, but
four giant robots bearing the likeness of the Avengers have just
landed on the 59th street bridge. Simon says that
though he is not an active Avenger right now he will be happy to
come with them. Iron Man says that the robots are knock off
Sentinels. The robots identify all of the Avengers as mutants.
Iron Man figures that they might be malfunctioning. The
Protectorate as they call themselves refuse to accept that they
are being confronted by the Avengers because they are supposed to
be dead. Jarvis recognizes a phrase the robot says as a phrase
that one of the employees that was let go when the Avengers were
“dead” used to say. The man used to be a villain named
the Mechano-Marauder. The quinjet Simon, Cap, and Wanda were in
is hit and crashes into the water. Simon carries Cap and Wanda
away (not sure why he didn’t fly and stop the ship from
crashing). The Captain America robot blasts at them with eye
beams. Simon takes the blast to protect Cap and Wanda. Simon gets
back up, but soon the whole team is laid out by a massive release
of energy by the four robots. They escape from their prison and
continue helping. Simon saves a guy who says that he saw his last
movie. Jarvis finds the former villain and makes him realize that
the Avengers are back. The guy realizes that he is the bad guy
and gives up because he really only wanted to protect New York.
Avengers vol. 3 #13- Simon lays on the couch in
the Scarlet Witch’s room reading a book as Wanda attempts to
familiarize herself with the true nature of her powers the chaos
energy. Simon says that he doesn’t recommend being dead of
course, but one of the good things is that when you return all
your favorite authors have one or two books out. Wanda can’t
maintain her power and grunts from a headache. Simon says that he
hopes he wasn’t ruining her concentration. Wanda says that
it’s just a little hard to clear her mind with all that has
happened lately. Wanda explains to Simon how the Vision had
always retained his emotions and memories, but that he
didn’t want to hurt her anymore. Simon says that if it is
Vision she loves that he will step aside. Wanda says that it
won’t be necessary. She says that if Vision and her had been
together when they got together then it might be different, but
they were apart mostly by the Vision’s choice. She says that
she is a free woman, and she chooses him. Wanda goes to kiss
Simon, but then Jarvis buzzes in on the intercom saying that
Wanda is wanted for a meeting. They apologize for being late.
Tony Stark is up on a view screen. Stark discovered that his suit
was giving him health problems. Cap is recently gone missing, and
Stark says that he needs someone else to be deputy leader. Thor
likewise rules himself out as does Vision. Simon isn’t even
an active Avenger. Wanda gets the nod. The meeting is interrupted
when Firestar calls in the Avengers onto a New Warriors’
mission. They ran into Lord Templar. When the Avengers arrive
Lord Templar releases the Avatars of Templar. Wonder Man blocks
with the other while Thor strikes at Templar himself. The Avatars
disappear. Lord Templar gets away when the A.I.M. warehouse they
were fighting in begins to explode with rupturing hi-tech
weapons.
Avengers vol. 3 #14
- Simon is knocked over by the Beast as he comes
bounding down the halls of Avengers mansion. Beast explains that
he is running a daylong computer exercise in his work to cure the
Legacy Virus so he decided to come see his back from the dead
club. Beast gives Simon a dozen roses. Beast says that they have
to go out and party. He asks out Wanda and Vision as well. Vision
says that he has other plans tonight, and Wanda says that they
are going to be busy with a tip on Lord Templar. Cap says that
he, Thor, Justice, and Firestar can investigate the tip and they
can go out. Vision takes his leave. Much later Simon, Wanda, and
Beast are at the “Horn O’ Plenty” jazz club. Simon
tells them how his dad took him to this place when he was a kid,
and all the jazz greats that he saw here as a scrawny math brain.
Suddenly out of the corner of her eye Wanda spots a silhouette
that looks like the Vision. It turns out to be Vision projecting
his holographic Victor Shade persona. Wanda brings him back to
the table. Vision says that he didn’t want to intrude. Simon
says that he didn’t know that Vision like jazz. He says that
it makes them more like brothers than ever. Simon starts to go
into a heartfelt speech. He says that the details of his life for
a few months prior to his last death are a little fuzzy, but he
remembers visiting his parents in Mephisto’s realm despite
the fact that his mother is alive and well in New Jersey. He also
remembers attacking the Avengers including Wanda. Wanda says that
everyone understood that it was just a problem with his powers.
He says that he remembers killing Angkor and at least one gang
member. Wanda says that nobody held him responsible because they
were life-threatening situations. Beast pretty much confirms
Wanda’s opinion. Simon turns to Vision only to find that he
wasn’t paying attention as he was caught up in the music.
Later Wanda calls the others to them as they are dealing with
Pagan. Wanda tells Simon to hold back until they can take
Pagan’s measure before sending in their heaviest hitter.
After Pagan knocks back Beast and Vision Simon plows right into
Pagan and starts punching away. Pagan finally acts and smashes
Wonder Man backwards. Simon says that he hasn’t been hit
that hard since Count Nefaria. Simon and Vision double-team Pagan
with a blow to the stomach. The other Avengers arrive and Captain
America bulldozes in without listening to Scarlet Witch’s
assessment. Wonder Man is charging in when Thor throws his
hammer. Simon is bashed. Pagan laughs and having proved his
superiority takes his leave. Simon is wedged into the wall. Thor
asks him if he is hurt. Wonder Man says that only his pride is.
Later Simon says goodbye to Beast. Beast tells him that he is a
good man, and to try to find an emotional answer, not an
intellectual one, to his doubts about himself.
Avengers vol. 3 #15- flashback- Simon sits at
the meeting. Wanda says that she wants to draw the team together
more to try and avoid the personal problems that seem to be
causing the teamwork problems. Wanda starts by announcing the
rotating chairman of the meetings. They do a review of the
current villain concerns, and then they bring up whether Simon
should be returned to active status. Simon says that for personal
reasons he would like to delay that. Iron Man returns and says
that he may have a way to trace Lord Templar’s energy.
Avengers vol. 3 #15- Wonder Man and the others
search without much success for Lord Templar. They finally get a
trail and follow it directly to the backdoor of the Triune
Understanding. They ask to come in, but even Triathlon seems put
off by the request. Suddenly Pagan arrives. As he swats the team
around Simon is knocked back. Justice tries to cushion his impact
with his telekinetic powers. Thor starts to finally take it to
Pagan, but Pagan seems to hold his own. Lord Templar arrives and
actually harms Pagan. The crowd starts to boo the Avengers as
they move to stop Templar because they he seems to be stopping
Pagan from advancing on their building. Lord Templar takes Pagan
and flies away with him. Jonathan Tremont, the leader of the
Triune Understanding, addresses the crowd later saying that
Avengers still insist on searching their grounds, and he
doesn’t understand why they want to take out their failure
on the victims. The bad press for the Avengers begins.

Avengers vol. 3 #16- It is Justice’s turn
to chair the meeting, but he stands frozen trying to proceed.
Wonder Man suggests that Justice try picturing them all naked and
adds that it worked for him on Letterman. After the meeting the
Black Knight shows up. Photon arrives exhausted. She says that
the Wrecking Crew are tearing up Mardi Gras. Simon and the others
get in the quinjet. Photon zooms ahead. When the Avengers arrive
the Crew runs for it. They have to fight, and Thunderball rams
his ball and chain into Iron Man’s chest. Simon goes to
check on him as Iron Man goes down. The Crew hold their own
managing to grab Photon. They hit a trigger to teleport out, but
Wanda uses a quick hex of chaos energy and though they do
teleport out something is clearly off.
Avengers vol. 3 #17- Thor opens a dimensional
portal to follow the Wrecking Crew. They all enter and Cap
indicates that the energy reading indicates that they are headed
to Arkon’s dimension. They reason that Wanda’s chaos
energy misdirected them. They arrive to find that the Wrecking
Crew have been living up to their name. An entire city seems to
be razed. They can’t seem to find any bodies, but they do
finally find Thundra and a group of Arkon’s soldiers.
Thundra tells them how the Wrecking Crew powered by Photon’s
energy ended the Grand Vizier’s usurping Arkon’s
throne. Captain America is brought before the Wrecker in chains.
