At Golden Orange Comics, the customers start asking Rick for his opinion about something. Rick says that he has to get going, but when one persists he agrees to listen. They say that he knows a lot about super-villains. Rick asks what is it. Sam asks about Doctor Doom. He says that he is the biggest bad-ass that there is and that he runs his own country. Rick asks Sam what the point is. Sam says that Doom wears a green dress. Rick rolls his eyes. One of the other customers tries to explain that it is a medieval tunic. Sam says that in medieval times that it was a tunic, but that today it is a dress. Sam says that Doom is “Little Green Riding Hood”. Rick asks what Sam is saying. Sam says that Doom is a “girly man”. Sam says that he can’t believe that no one has pointed this out to him before. Rick asks Sam if he wants to be the one to tell him. Sam says to bring him on. Rick says that Doom is standing right behind Sam. Sam turns not believing, but when he turns he sees an enormous Doom there. Sam falls to the floor in panic. Rick tells Al that he sees that the new super-villains stand-up displays have arrived. He tells Al to stick them in the back. As Rick walks out he says goodbye to everyone. They say to send Marlo their regards and that they hope she gets better soon. Al is holding the Doom and an Osama bin Laden super-villain stand-ups.

Marlo is practicing martial arts and manages to kick over a table. Marlo falls onto the couch clutching her sore foot. Moondragon says that she cannot transform simple martial arts into property damage. She says that she is trying to teach Marlo focus and control since Marlo possesses the Death Wish, and that her most casual thought can destroy the universe. Marlo sarcastically thanks Moondragon for not adding any pressure. She says that she thinks that she broke her toe. Lorraine says that they should call a “toe truck”. Marlo tells Lorraine that she has enough on her mind. Moondragon recalls that Lorraine is the ghost that only Marlo can see. She says that she wants to try something. Marlo asks if she could stop Moondragon. Moondragon says that she really couldn’t. Marlo asks Moondragon what she is doing and says that it feels like double vision. Moondragon looks at Lorraine smoking and says that even in death that cigarettes aren’t good for her. She says that there is no health deterrents, but that they are aesthetically unpleasing. Lorraine says to allow her her few ectoplasmic pleasures, but stops when she realizes that Moondragon can see and hear her. Marlo sits up stunned and asks how Moondragon did it. Moondragon explains that she simply hacked into the portion of Marlo’s mind that allows her to see Lorraine and copied it into her own mind. Moondragon says that she controls how she sees the world around her, and that it is that lesson of control that she is trying to teach Marlo. Marlo leaps up and hugs Moondragon. She says that Moondragon doesn’t understand and that when she first started seeing Lorraine that she thought she was losing her mind. She says that she was afraid of telling anybody, and that even when she learned that she was real being the only one that could see her made her feel so alone. Lorraine rolls her eyes and says that she feels the love in the room. Marlo keeps hugging her and says that first Moondragon saved her life and now she is helping save her sanity. Marlo starts thanking Heather. Heather says that she is welcome, but that they should resume her training. Marlo looks into Moondragon’s eyes, and Lorraine is stunned as Marlo and Heather kiss full on the lips. Both Marlo and Heather recoil in shock. Marlo asks where that came from. Moondragon says that she doesn’t know, but Marlo says that Moondragon is “Miss ‘I’m on a first name basis with all my brain cells!” Moondragon says that it must have been some outside influence. Marlo says, “Yeah… that’s it! That’s what made you kiss me…” Moondragon says that it was Marlo that kissed her. Marlo says that Moondragon gave more sucking action than her dustbuster. Moondragon says that Marlo is overestimating her own attractiveness. Marlo says that she is “totally hot”. Moondragon agrees with Marlo, and Marlo stops and asks if Moondragon really thinks so. Moondragon says, “You… have a certain… smoldering intensity… full lips, and…” Lorraine asks to be killed even deader. Rick storms in through the door and asks what they’re up to. The women both panic and shout out, “Nothing!” Rick says that both of them look kind of out of it, and asks if the two of them have been drinking. Rick says to forget that. He says that he and Marv have been talking and that they feel that all of them need some time to get back to the basics and reclaim their lives and relationships. Marlo asks what they were thinking and Rick replies, “A getaway.” Moondragon says, “Out of the question. It’s far too dangerous and delicate a time for Marlo two lips…” Rick asks what she meant by ‘two lips’. Moondragon corrects herself, “To leave. For Marlo to leave. I cannot allow it.” Rick says that he doesn’t remember asking for Moondragon’s permission. Marv says that there is something wrong with Moondragon, but Rick just asks what else is new. Rick grabs Marlo and says that they have it all worked out and to consider it an early birthday present. Marlo says that her birthday was two week ago, and Rick says that he meant to consider it a late birthday present. Rick tells Moondragon to back up. Moonie tries to object, but Rick bangs his bands and he and Marlo disappear. Moondragon asks Genis what he has done. Marv says that Rick and Marlo are on a little island paradise that he found. Marv says to excuse him, but Moondragon asks where he is going. Marv says, “To look up some old friends and with any luck… as they used to say… go for the big trot.” Moondragon says that he is going to ditch his responsibilities to go have sex. Marv says that is right and that Moondragon should give it a try. He says, “You might surprise yourself.” Moondragon says, “That much is certain” as Marv flies away. There is a knock on the door and Moondragon asks if this day could be any more insane. Jackie Shorr is at the door and asks if Marlo is there.

On the island paradise, Marlo asks what this place is. Rick says that it is nicknamed 'Rainbow Planet' because of all the colors in the sky. Marlo says that she just can't take off. Rick says that it is okay and that he squared things with Al back at the store. Marlo averts her eyes when she sees Rick standing there naked. Rick asks her what the problem is, and that it isn't like she hasn't seen him this way before. He says that there is no one else there and that they don't need clothes or anything else but each other there. He asks if there is something wrong, but to avoid the question Marlo says that nothing is wrong and strips off her shirt. She suddenly remembers the link between Rick and Marv. She covers up and tells Rick not to try telling her that he is asleep because she knows that he isn't. Rick tells her not to worry and that Marv is on Titan getting that taken care of right now.

On Titan, Marv asks Eros if he is sure that this will work. Eros says that they are talking of a privacy device for erotic activity and that nothing could be more up his alley than this. He says that it is very simple and that when either of them releases a hormone surge that occurs with certain activities that the scanner will create a 'white noise' that prevents the person's mind from being scanned. Eros places it right on Genny's forehead and says that it blends right in with his star face. Marv asks Eros if he could stop calling him Genny and says that it turns out that it is a girl's name on Earth. Marv asks Eros why he has these things anyway. Eros says that there are some places where his reputation precedes him. He says that when he goes there the local telepaths try to monitor his activities so he doesn't go after their wives. He says that even he deserves his privacy. Marv thanks "Uncle Eros" and shakes his hand. As Marv flies off Eros says, "Good hunting, my lad. And as the old saying goes, be good... and if you can't be good, be careful... and if you can't be careful... then name it after me!" Elysius comes out of the shadow and says that he has grown so much in so short a time. Eros says that the experiences has aged him more than the years have. Elysius says that she wanted to just come out and hold him, but Eros says that she couldn't and that her death hit him hard. Elysius says that she misses him so much and wonders if he ever thinks about her. Eros says that he imagines that he does since "what boy doesn't think about his mother?'

Moondragon welcomes Jackie into the apartment. Jackie asks if Marlo is around. Moondragon says that she should be back soon and offers Jackie some coffee. Jackie accepts. Moondragon asks if Jackie is a friend of Marlo's. Jackie says that she is an old relation. Heather introduces herself and says that Marlo has never mentioned Jackie. Jackie says that she is probably embarrassed to admit friendships with older people. Moondragon starts preparing the coffee. Moondragon says, "Please stop yelling. I already know." Jackie says that she didn't know that she was yelling, but Moondragon says that Jackie wasn't. Jackie pulls out a large knife and says that she hates yelling... and people calling out annoying warnings. Moondragon turns around and freezes Jackie in her place. She says that Jackie is not dealing with a helpless woman now. She says that she scanned Jackie's mind and intent before she ever stepped into the apartment. Moondragon says that she can't determine if Jackie is really Rick Jones' mother since Jackie's belief that she is, is absolute. She says that she can tell that Jackie is crazed and a murderer though. Moondragon says that someone is there that is dying to meet her. Jackie suddenly sees Lorraine standing before her. Jackie says that she killed Lorraine. Lorraine says that is true, and that she is there to return the favor. Jackie swings her knife at Lorraine's throat, but it passes right through. Lorraine asks if Jackie knows what an angry ghost can do. Lorraine raises her hands and Jackie flies backward into the air. Lorraine says that she had a second lease on life and that Jackie took that away from her. She says that she can never feel the sun, smell the air, or eat a hot dog again. Lorraine says that Jackie has no idea what she is talking about, but that she is more than willing to help her learn for herself. Jackie goes tumbling off the balcony and falls to the sidewalk below. Lorraine says, "Most fun you can have without breathing."

Marv is flying to the planet Calculex, which has a reputation as an intergalactic armpit. Marv descends to the planet and flies over the Halvacenter, his home away from home. Marv says that actually it was his home. Marv starts telling Rick how Halvacenter is the most popular city of Calculex, but he discovers that the 'white noise' device works and that he cannot speak to Rick. Marv says that he must be having a "grooby time", and remarks how the old slang comes right back to him. As he descends into the city he sees that no one is around. Marv says that the place should be jumping at this time of night. He says that his first stop will have to be the Old Grog and Grub. He says that Glib, Steck, and Zoob will be able to tell him what is going on. He says that it has been too long, and that he feels like he is dropping back into someone else's life instead of his own. Marv says that it seems that all he has wanted to do lately is be a hero, but that even heroes get to be someone else once and a while. He remarks at the irony of his being in tune with the entire universe, but that only now is he coming to terms with his own loneliness. Marv lands at the Grog and Grub only to find that it is closed. Marv says that can't be. He says that he doesn't know what is going on there, but that he is going to find out. Marv blasts the door in. Marv calls out to Zoog and Steck. He asks if they are still on speaking terms. Suddenly Marv is blasted in the chest. Glib says that they got him and that he must be the killer. Marv asks Glib if this is how he welcomes back his best customer. Glib asks if that is Genny and says to shine the spark over there. Glib says that it doesn't look like Genny. Marv turns his star face off and says that he prefers Captain Marvel or Marv these days. Zoog says, "Oh, aye aye Captain!" Glib says that Genny scared the bejoobies out of him. Marv asks what is going on. Glib starts calling him Genny again, but when Marv corrects him Glib goes on. He says that Marv's timing couldn't be better or worse depending on how he looks at it. He says that in a few days that he and Zoog are leaving the city and that everyone has been going. Zoog says that the place has gone down the flusher. Marv says that he can see that and asks where Steck is. He asks again and Zoog tells Marv that Steck is dead. She says that they are pretty sure she is dead anyway. She says that she disappeared just like all the others that turned up dead. She says that it is only a matter of time. Zoog says that she knows that they were more than friends and that she was always a little jealous. Marv's face goes starry and asks, "Who's the walking dead man who killed her?"

Steck lies alone in a pitch black room. A voice says that it has taken him long enough. "Adam Warlock's friend and occasional protégé has finally arrived. Legacy. Genis-Vell. Captain Marvel. So many names... so little time. You've all been a warm-up for this event. Even you, little Steck'ee. Soon... Genis-Vell will be mine, and then... the Magus will trade his shadow life... for one fully formed. A life belonging to one 'Captain Marvel."

Legacy rating: 8.5 out of 10

Another great combination of humor, action, and storyline from Peter David. I absolutely love the Magus being the shocker ending. Seeing Marv getting back to his roots is also a welcome change. The Rick/Marlo angle is a little odd, but you can’t deny the appeal of two hot women making out. Eros’ erotic filter is an idea long overdue. Calafiore does a very good job with the penciling. His Magus is terrific.
