Rick shouts that a deal is a deal. Marv clutches his head and smashes against a mirror. Marv says that was quote a mental ”boot to the head”. He asks if it still hurts Rick as much as it hurts him. Rick wipes his mouth and says that he is fine. Marv asks if his nose is bleeding at least. Rick repeats that he is fine and tells Marv not to change the subject. Rick says that they are supposed to change places every twenty-four hours. He says that if Marv or Coven trashed his apartment that he is going to kill them. Marv says that threats aren’t necessary and that he can have his twenty-four hours. Marv bangs the bands. Rick says that Marv is too generous. Marv says that he is just endlessly seeking out new forms of entertainment. He says that he sees that Rick’s groupies are still there. He wonders who knew that it would lead to this when Epiphany jumpstarted his musical career. Rick says that its like a shanty town there. Marv says that he can eradicate them with a wave of his hand. Rick tells him no and that he will deal with it. Rick tells Marv not to cause any more trouble than he already has. Marv asks what he means. Rick says, “Karl Coven, for starters.” Marv says that if Coven killed Rick that he would die and his connection to Earth would be severed. He says that Coven would lose the cosmic power he gave him. Rick says that he isn’t worried about his safety. He asks how Marv could give Coven that power. Marv says that it was easy to do. Rick says that he didn’t mean the mechanics of it. He says that Coven shot him. Marv says that he is a forgiving God. Rick tells Marv again that he is not a god. There is a knock on Rick’s door. Rick pulls out a gun. Marv says that is new. Rick says that it was a gift from a fan in the Microverse. Rick says that it is nice to know who his friends are.
Rick stands behind the door and asks who it is. The voice on the other end asks if it is Rick Jones. Rick wants to know who wants to know. The voice says that she is Lucy Harper. Rick says that he doesn’t know any Lucy Harper. Lucy says that they met at the execution. She says that her husband was killed by Coven. Rick opens the door. Lucy apologizes and says that she should have called first. Lucy asks if Rick has a gun in his pocket. Rick says that he is just happy to see her. Lucy sees the guitars on the wall. She asks if he is a musician in addition to being a super-hero guy. Rick asks if she knew about that. Lucy says that she even used to watch his television show. Rick asks how she knew where he lived. Lucy says that she was in court when he gave his address. Rick says, “So, uh… do you want, uh…?” Lucy says that she wants closure, justice, and vengeance. She says that she wants the bastard that killed her husband. She says that he got away from the legal system, but that he won’t get away from her. She says that she wants to kill him, and that she wants him to suffer. She says that she wants to see fear in his shark-like eyes. Rick says that he was going to ask if she wanted something to drink, but that vengeance is good too.
In the Microverse, outside Rick’s home, Arata says that he is going to kill Ginsa for this. His friend, Kulch, says that he is overreacting. Arata grabs Kulch by the throat and says that they are supposed to be married in two weeks. He says that the next thing he knows she goes to a concert for a “Reek Jonez” and suddenly that is all she cares about. Kulch says that Ginsa loves Arata and that this is just a phase. Arata calls out to Ginsa. Marv watches all this from Rick’s place. He says that it seems that no matter where he goes that there are judgments to be made.
Lucy says that Rick must think that she is a
“total nutcase”. Rick says that she isn’t a
“total” nutcase. He says that he knows from nutcases.
She says that she comes into his home and starts ranting like a
“crazed super-villain”. She asks if that is the right
word. Rick says that “crazed” works. Lucy says that she
meant “super-villain” and takes a drink of water. Rick
says that if she wants the whole super-villain rant that she
needs a maniacal rant like, “Mwwaahhaha!” Lucy says
that Rick made her blow water out of her nose. Rick says that he
wasn’t maniacal enough, and that he wasn’t cut out to
be a super-villain. Rick asks Lucy what she thought he could do
for her. Lucy walks over to the window. She says that she thought
he could convince one of his supertype friends to kill Coven.
Rick says that the guys he hangs with aren’t killers. Lucy
says that she thought most heroes killed these days. Rick says
that most don’t, but that the kind that he wouldn’t ask
for help. Lucy says that even the state wants him dead. Rick says
that he knows, but that it isn’t the point. Rick says that
heroes have to stand for something. He says that otherwise
morality and justice go out the window. Lucy is suddenly pulled
out the window. Rick runs to the window. He sees Coven riding a
motorcycle up the air. 
He is holding
Lucy with one hand as he “drives” with the other. Coven
says that he wanted to see if Lucy could come out to play. Coven
says that Rick was probably going to say to “put her
down”, but that he figured he might take him literally. Lucy
shouts for help and not to let him kill her. Coven asks why he
would want to kill her. He says that she can’t scream if he
kills her. He wonders if he could bring her back. Rick points his
gun at Coven and tells him to bring her back. Coven says that
Rick would just hit Lucy. Coven starts to drive away. He says
that he will tell her how her husband begged like a baby before
he killed him. Lucy says that Coven is a monster. Coven laughs,
“Mwwaahhaha!”
Rick runs up onto his roof. He apologizes to the ladies sunbathing, but says that he didn’t want to ruin his apartment again. Rick tells Marv that he is banging the bands so Marv can stop his friend, Coven. Marv says that he wouldn’t dream of horning in on his twenty-four hours. Rick says to save the sarcasm and bangs his bands. Marv says that he is sorry, but that a deal is a deal, Marv bangs his bands. Rick tells him to stop being a hard ass and bangs again. Rick and Marv go back and forth. The women sunbathing say that they are moving to the Hills. Rick says that a woman is in danger, and that it is a big joke to Marv. Marv says that it is just an amusing diversion. Rick bangs his bands again. Rick suddenly finds himself in the Microverse, falling to the ground below. Marv asks if Rick is having a problem. Rick shouts for him to change back. Marv says that he thought Rick didn’t want him to change back. Rick screams. Marv changes back just as Rick is about to hit. Marv tells Rick not to say that he never did anything for him.
Aratu grabs Ginsa and says that she has no where to run. He says that they are going home. She says that Aratu doesn’t understand what Rick Jones means to her and to all of them. Kulch tells Ginsa that Aratu doesn’t care. He tells her not to make it worse. Marv says, “It’s worse.” Marv says that he will be adjudicating the matter, and that they will abide his decisions. Aratu asks if they are supposed to listen to him because he has a weapon. Aratu says that they all have weapons. He says that it is a way of life where they come from. Marv says, “Ah. Texans.” He “poinks” their guns out of existence. Marv says that he could have done that to their hands, or to them. He tells them to describe their dispute. He says that he knows it, but that he wants to hear them say it. Aratu says that Ginsa promised to marry him. Aratu says that was before Rick’s music stirred things inside her. Aratu asks what kind of things. Ginsa says that it stirred a desire for adventure, beauty, and an appreciation for everything wonderful in the universe. Marv asks Ginsa if she promised to marry him. Ginsa says that things have changed since then. Marv says that the binding power of a promise never changes. Marv says that they will be married right now. Aratu says that Marv doesn’t have the authority. Marv points his gun at Aratu’s head and asks if they should begin.
Coven tells Lucy that her husband’s death was completely unnecessary. He says that he pulled him over for a busted taillight. Coven says that he told him that he was going to get it fixed, and that the ironic part was that it was the truth. Coven says that he was in such a good mood that he would have just taken the ticket, but that her husband had to be a big man and decide to check the trunk. He asks Lucy if she wants to see what he saw. Lucy says no, but Coven shows her a trunk full of human body parts and organs. He says that now she can see how he died. Coven says that her husband was so stunned that he took his gun from him before he knew what was happening. Coven says that he shoved the barrel into his mouth, and that was when he soiled himself. Coven says that he made him strip waist down because he couldn’t die disgracing the uniform. Lucy jumps off the bike rather than see anymore. Coven grabs her hand and says that she will miss the part where he peels his face off. Suddenly Coven is hit with a blast. Rick holds his blaster and tells Coven to get back up.
Marv pronounces Aratu and Ginsa husband and wife. He tells him to kiss the bride or else. Marv says that the promise has been kept. He asks Ginsa if she wants to remain married to him. Ginsa says she doesn’t. Marv tells Aratu to leave with his friends. Aratu says that Marv just married them. Marv says that now he is granting her a divorce or an annulment. Aratu says that he can’t do that. Marv grabs Aratu by the throat and lifts him into the air. He says that he doesn’t do well with ‘can’t’. Marv says that Ginsa is either going to be a divorcee or a widow. He says that she can decide. Ginsa tells Marv to let him go. Marv tosses him aside. Aratu says that Marv has no idea what he has brought on himself. He says that his family is powerful and well connected. He says that they will bring a storm down like he has never seen. Marv says, “Yes. They will. For that matter, a being named Tlaango is, at this very moment, describing the brutal death of his beloved to some very formidable family members. Revenge is being sworn even as we speak.” Marv says that revenge and justice are interesting concepts.
Rick shoots Coven in the chest. He then shoots the building behind Coven and brings it down on top of him. Rick grabs Lucy and runs. Lucy asks if it is over. Rick says that it won’t hold Coven down long. She asks if they have him arrested. Rick says that no jail would hold him. Rick says that he has to get Marv to remove the power he gave Coven. Lucy asks if he would go to jail then. Rick says, “To hell with that. You wanted vengeance? I’ll make sure you get it. In spades.”
Legacy rating: 8 out of 10
You can almost see Marv playing the situation like a puppet master. He smirks as revenge from Aratu and Tlaango are being planned. He forces Rick to deal with Coven. Cool stuff. Reis does another magnificent job with the art. Soto works really well with Reis’ clean pencils.
