Abraxas
For every act of
creation there is an act of destruction. Within the core of
Eternity, the being encompassing all that is, was, or ever will
be, there grew another being… Abraxas. Abraxas as the
opposite of Eternity desires nothingness. Eternity made sure that
in every reality there was a Galactus to keep Abraxas in check,
but when our reality’s Galactus died it unhinged the doors
of the multiverse and Abraxas was freed.
Fantastic Four 2001- The skull of Galactus crash lands on Earth. Fantastic Four goes to investigate. The skull winds up not being the one from our universe’s Galactus. Reed also determines that whoever sent the skull at them was controlling its destination. Inside the skull is the alternate reality’s Nova. The Fantastic Four go to the Watcher’s area to talk with him only to find that he not only doesn’t know everything anymore, but in fact he doesn’t even know his own name. Franklin Richards has a nightmare about a shadowed man, the Dark Man, hurting Valeria. Later on, Reed Richards and the alternate reality’s Dr. Druid are taken on a journey by Captain Universe. Captain Universe says, “Come. He expects you.” Captain Universe tells them about the creation of Eternity as the sum of all things within the universe. Captain Universe says that while one Eternity ensures a boundless universe that numerous Eternitys ensure a boundless multiverse. Captain Universe says that the balance between Order and Chaos has been upset. Reed asks Captain Universe if the “he” that is expecting them is Eternity. Captain Universe just tells them to follow. Reed and Druid are lead to a giant green man who stands among a bunch of dead Galactus. The man looks down at them and says, “Abraxas”. Reed tries to ask him what he wants, but he is instantly transported back to Earth. Everyone looks up in the sky and sees giant flame letters that spell out, “I am coming.”
Fantastic Four vol. 3 #46 (475)- Reed and Susan go to pick up the returned Franklin Richards and Valeria Von Doom and notice that a mist seems to covering the city. Reed gets a message about an unusual meteor shower that seems sentient and is headed for Earth. Nova says that it is Abraxas. She says that Abraxas is drawn by the aroma of creatures of the multiverse. She says that when duplicates like her from another dimensions are all living in the same dimension at the same time that Abraxas comes and kills them all. Franklin says that he knows Abraxas. Sue asks him what he said and Franklin says that Abraxas is the Dark Man that he sees in his dreams. The Fantastic Four, the alternate Nova, Silver Surfer, Quasar, Moondragon, and Captain Marvel all join together to fight Abraxas’ “meteor shower”. Reed reviews the situation for them. Nova tells Surfer that Abraxas killed the Galactus of her universe and sent it here as an announcement of his coming. Reed says that he thinks that Abraxas is actually using it as a homing beacon, and that is why he had it brought to the moon as a sort of last stand against Abraxas. Reed says that the skull has the same microbes in it that seems to be in the mist back on Earth. Abraxas’ “meteor shower” lands on the moon and transform into monsters. The fighting begins. The creatures go after Uatu, but Surfer teleports Uatu away. Surfer is then burned up in the mist that arrived with the creatures. An apparition of Abraxas appears. Reed says that it is almost as if Abraxas is taunting them. The apparition disappears and the fighting stops. Moondragon realizes that the creatures where after Human Torch because he knows the location of the Ultimate Nullifier. Torch and Nova go after it in three possible places. They have to reach it before Abraxas or he will use it to destroy the multiverse. Later up on the Blue Area of the Moon, a statue takes form and turns into Abraxas. Abraxas looks over at the Earth and says, “Veni. Vidi. Vici.” Abraxas laughs.
Fantastic Four vol. 3 #47 (476)- Abraxas walks through New York City as a number of realities are merging together. He walks into the Baxter Building. Valeria von Doom quickly turns around to go find Franklin and bounces off Abraxas’ chest. Abraxas says, “That which should not be… is.” Valeria teleports elsewhere in the building. She finds herself looking down at Namorita, who is in her Kymaera form and can’t breathe oxygen. Abraxas knocks on the door and says, “Little pig, little pig, let me in, let me in”. Abraxas walks through the wall and says, “…or I’ll huff, and I’ll puff…” Abraxas looks down and sees Namorita. Valeria is gone and says that Namorita is not the one he seeks. Abraxas pauses for a second and says that she is gone. Abraxas says that all good things come to those who wait. Valeria was taken away by Franklin to meet Roma who is going to help them fight Abraxas.
Fantastic Four vol. 3 #48- Roma, Saturnyne, Franklin, and Valeria watch as Human Torch and Nova are flying towards the Ultimate Nullifier. Roma explains that she cares for Eternity, and that like Yin to Eternity’s Yang Abraxas was created within the core of Eternity. Valeria asks that if Abraxas was always there why didn’t he make his move before now. Roma says that Eternity created in each reality a Galactus to keep Abraxas in check. When our Galactus died the hinges on the doors of reality came undone. In other realities the Fantastic Four are trying to scan the minds of three different Johnny Storms. Combined the scans will provide our reality’s Human Torch the answer of where the Ultimate Nullifier is. Once the others succeed, Human Torch knows where it is and quickly grabs it. Human Torch says, “got it”. Nova says that now Abraxas has it as she blasts Human Torch. Torch tells her to think about what she is doing. Nova says that she knows exactly what she is doing. Nova and Torch are now with Roma and the others. Abraxas forms out of Roma’s watching pool. He greets his loyal servant Nova. Roma says that she pleads with whatever part of Eternity that still resides within Abraxas to stop his mad quest to destroy everything. Abraxas says that Roma has misjudged him. He says that it is Eternity’s love for her that brings him to her. Abraxas thanks Roma for tending to Eternity’s needs all these years. He kisses her and when he finishes Roma is nothing but a husk. Abraxas says, “A mad quest, indeed. Perhaps in death, my dear, you can understand the perfection in nothingness. Abraxas tells Nova to gather their belongings because it is time for all of them to leave this place. The other Fantastic Four return to the Baxter Building to find Abraxas there with several Novas, Saturnyne and the children. Nova hands over the Ultimate Nullifier to Abraxas. Reed launches at him to stop him, but Abraxas deflects him as though it were nothing. Abraxas says that now that he has the Ultimate Nullifier that there isn’t a soul in the combined universes that can stop him. Franklin Richards watches.
