Attuma
It's easy to
think that Attuma the Barbarian might just be another disgruntled
Atlantean, but in reality he and his barbarian bretheren are
outcasts from Atlantis. According to Namor it is the way things
have been since before time was recorded. So it's easy to
understand Attuma's quest for conquest of Atlantis. Then one day
after Namor had been asked to abdicate his throne a civil war
broke out. Attuma settled the civil war, but also implanted
himself as ruler of Atlantis.
Fantastic Four #33- flashback- During the first week of Namor’s new reign as King of Atlantis the High Priest comes to tell him that the ancient legends of an enemy that will come to ravage Atlantis is advancing on the gate. Attuma and his soldiers advance on Atlantis. As Attuma’s army approaches the deep divide the separates him from Atlantis, Lady Dorma pledges her love to Namor and ask that he not expose himself to Attuma’s army for fear that he will be hurt. Namor blows her off. Dorma then uses her authority to tell the guards away from the vital outpost to get even with Namor. Attuma’s troops advance through the divide. As he passes through Dorma reminds Attuma that he promised that no harm would come to Namor. Attuma calls her a “witless female” and says that he has no intention of keeping that vow. As Attuma’s troops finally start to overtake Namor Lady Dorma flees.
Fantastic Four #33-
Lady Dorma goes to the surface to get the Fantastic
Four to help Namor. Reed exposes the Four to a spray that creates
perpetual oxygen around them so they can breathe underwater and
go to help Namor. Attuma’s troops attack the FF as they
arrive on the scene. As they get closer they notice huge ships
heading for Atlantis. Namor’s troops are running out of
weapons to fire, but Namor drives them onward. Attuma says that
any other opponent would have surrendered long ago. Attuma orders
that the Globules of Darkness be dispersed. The globules explode
and Namor is left in darkness. Namor flies out of the darkness to
take the offensive. As Namor challenges Attuma to hand to hand
combat Attuma’s troops are watching with a machine that
sends out subsonic sound waves that will drain Namor’s
strength making it easy for Attuma to win. Invisible Girl puts a
force field around them and the machine explodes from feedback.
The FF span out to take down Attuma’s other traps to aid
Namor. Attuma says to Namor that he is the conqueror that the
legends foretold of, and that Namor has grown weak and soft.
Thing destroys an ionic cannon. The spray that allows the
Fantastic Four to breathe underwater is close to running out.
Namor flips Attuma and shatters his sword. Attuma activates
disintegrator ray beneath his helmet. Sue turns Namor invisible
to prevent his death. Namor grabs the weapons of Attuma’s
helmet as the FF is forced to head to the surface. Namor beats on
Attuma until Attuma surrenders. Namor orders that the guards take
Attuma and his followers to the gates of Atlantis so that they
might never enter again.
Tales of Suspense #66-
Fantastic Four annual #3- Attuma is one of the army of villain Dr. Doom mentally controlled into attacking the Fantastic Four on Reed and Sue's wedding day. Attuma's ships arrive on the ocean's surface. Just then Daredevil drives a truck full of explosives off the pier into Hudson River. Attuma's ships are all pushed back out to see by the resulting vortex.
Avengers #26- The Wasp is at sea with Hank Pym. They have to contact the Avengers to warn them that Namor is heading towards America. Jan flies in her bathing suit from the ship towards Avengers mansion. While resting in the water Jan is snagged by a scoop that drags her down to Attuma's ship. Attuma doesn't recognize Jan and figures her for a spy because why else would she be floating above his ship. Attuma gives Wasp a helmet since the atmosphere in the ship is too wet for a human to breathe. Attuma reveals that his tidal-expander is already at work increasing the size of the waves. Eventually the waves will flood the surface and Attuma will take over the world. Jan is imprisoned in a tube. She shrinks down, holds her breath, and uses a short-wave transmitter to tell the Avengers Attuma's location. Hawkeye can't be reached so they take off without him. As they fly over Attuma's ship a large metallic clamp grabs the Avengers and pulls them down to Attuma's sub. The Avengers attack. Scarlet Witch is defeated by a sleep gun. Quicksilver is worn down by the humidity of Attuma's ship, and the fact that he can't find the tidal-expander. Quicksilver is confronted by Attuma after Cap and Scarlet Witch are already down. Quicksilver runs around and hits Attuma. Attuma fakes unconsciousness. When Quicksilver gets closer Attuma knocks him out. Attuma's guards say that the woman is missing, and that some of the crew is muttering that Attuma can only beat the Avengers because they couldn't breathe. Attuma orders that the Avengers be given helmets and he will defeat them single-handed. Quicksilver and Cap grabs his arms, but Attuma smashes them together. The Avengers keep running and hitting, but Attuma says he only needs one good shot. Scarlet Witch's hex causes a pillar to collapse, but unwittingly this allows the room to fill with water.
Avengers #27- Attuma knocks Captain America out with one hit. Quicksilver is still so fast so he grabs Scarlet Witch, and when Quicksilver rushes in to save her Attuma grabs him. Up on the ocean's surface the waves are getting bigger. Wanda breaks a glass window allowing the water to rush out a little. The pull frees Quicksilver from Attuma's grasp. Quicksilver runs into a tube, but doesn't realize it is an ejector tube. Hawkeye and Quicksilver look for where Attuma went. Attuma's ship is repaired and Cap and Wanda are brought before him. Cap uses Attuma's vanity to get Attuma to show him the controls to the tidal-expander. Before Attuma can kill Cap and Wanda Quicksilver and Hawkeye crash into the ship. Attuma says he will deal with it, and then they'll have four executions. Cap and Wanda get free of their guards. Attuma's guards have Hawkeye and Quicksilver pinned down, but Cap arrives with one of Attuma's tanks. Attuma's men all run. Attuma goes back to his tidal-enhancer controls. Attuma attempts to increase the tidal strength and kill the fleeing Avengers, but he finds his controls sabotaged by Captain America. The effects reverse and Attuma's ship is crushed.
Tales to Astonish #88- Attuma invades Atlantis. Attuma
breaks his sword on Namor's arm. Namor dodges a blast from one of
Attuma's men as they fight. Namor knocks Attuma through a pillar.
Attuma defeated his soldiers retreat. Attuma and his soldiers
walk home. Back at home Attuma is steamed. He has beaten everyone
under the sea except Namor. Attuma finds Namor's existence
offensive as a barbarian. Attuma decides to build a weapon that
will destroy Namor. He vows that no matter how long it takes or
how many lives are lost Atlantis will be his. A spaceship flying
by Earth accidentally loses its servo-robot that drops into the
sea. Attuma sees that an intruder is in his territory. Attuma and
his men break their swords on the robot. Attuma shoots his nutro
ray at the robot, but still it is unharmed. Attuma notices a
control box on the robot's chest. Attuma gains control over the
robot. He sends it to capture Atlantis and orders it to kill
Namor.
Tales to Astonish #89- Attuma's robot pounds on the doors of Atlantis. The robot melts the wall and starts destroying once inside. Namor tells the city and army to evacuate. The robot hits Namor with his eye beams. Namor tries to grab the robot, but it turns white hot instantly. Namor uses sharks to attack the robot. Attuma calls for Namor's surrender. Namor sends Dorma for his projecto-camera. He uses a whale to swallow the robot, but the robot lifts the whale's mouth open. Namor then uses octopi, but again the robot repels them. Namor hits the robot, but is grabbed. He is released when a conical dome descends over the robot. Namor swims up to see the spaceship back to get its robot. Namor used the projecto to show the robot's image in space so its owners could come for it. Attuma flees.

Sub-Mariner #31- Attuma abducts Ikthon from the Hall of Science with his new invention. Some troops posing as Namor's soldiers abduct a ship that happens to have Diane Arliss as a passenger. They take the people and destroy the ship. Namor gets into a fight with Triton and Stingray over clearing his name of the ship sinking when the three of them are captured by an electrified net. They struggle until they pass out. The ship that sent out the net drags the three of them back to a sub-sea mountain that opens up to reveal a hideout. When the three of the wake up they find they are prisoners inside a force field. Attuma and his Fool appear before the three of them. Attuma says all three were stupid enough to fall for his trap. The Fool says to kill them, but Attuma says they are no longer a threat to him. Attuma shows Namor all the captives working on a machine that Ikthon is working on. He also shows that Diane Arliss is one of the captives. Attuma says he will use Ikthon's earth-borer to attack the under water ground of Manhattan. Attuma will do so in yet another attempt to frame Namor. After that when the surface world and Atlantis war Attuma will raise his kingdom up from the ashes. Namor tells Stingray that Attuma and his troops are not Atlanteans, but barbarian born disowned since time beyond reckoning. Saru-san, the Fool, suggests pitting Namor, Triton, and Stingray against each other in a tournament. The winner gets to remain alive as a slave. The three of them create a vortex that destroys the force field. They lunge at Attuma, but his men join the fight. Attuma sees that his men are fighting with no heart. The Fool suggests escape, but Attuma prepares for revenge. Attuma tries to activate the earth-borer, but Ikthon rigged it to explode upon activation.
Sub-Mariner #36- While Namor is with Proteus at a hidden icon of Neptune preparing for his wedding later that day to Lady Dorma an Atlantean finds him. He tells Namor that Attuma is attacking Atlantis. The Atlantean guards are retreating from the new Octo-Meks when Namor arrives. As the Atlanteans fight Karthon and the Lemurians arrive to help. They have come to see Namor’s wedding. Attuma’s forces withdraw. Attuma calls for his weapon supreme. A giant tank drives up, and though he has not been told what it does Attuma orders the weapon fired. The weapon seems to be destroying the oxygen in the water. Namor tunnels below Attuma, and surfaces destroying the weapon. Namor asks Attuma where obtained the weapon. Attuma’s answer is to swing an axe at Namor. Namor hits Attuma. The barbarians withdraw, and Namor moves to Dorma for their wedding. Namor accidentally weds Llyra who had disguised herself as Dorma.
Sub-Mariner #37- Ikthon is discovered as he tries to secretly talk with Attuma on a viewscreen. He says Namor is still fool enough to believe that Attuma kidnapped him back in #31. Ikthon says that when Namor leaves to go find Dorma they should attack Atlantis again. Namor grabs Ikthon and tells Attuma that if he dares fight he will face an opponent with no stomach for mercy. Attuma says he has already launched another of Ikthon’s Earth-borer. Ikthon offers to find Dorma so Namor spares his life. Atlantis starts to shake. Namor takes off after the Earth-borer that Attuma himself drives. The Earth-Borer blasts Namor, but Namor struggles on. Attuma is pleased that Namor is offering some sport. Namor dodges the next blast. He swims under the Earth-Borer. He picks it up, and tells Attuma that this will be their last fight. Attuma tries to escape, but cannot. Namor throws Attuma down a pit. The engine of the Earth-Borer is smashed by Namor, and with the ship buried in rubble Namor figures that Attuma is finished, and since Dorma is in danger he leaves to save her.
Sub-Mariner #56- behind the scenes- Attuma’s barbarian hordes attack Atlantis in the hopes that with the Sub-Mariner gone they might conquer…but they don’t.
Super-Villains Team-Up#1- After spurning Doom's offer
for an alliance Namor swims to Hydrobase. He meets a newly
amphibious Dr. Joe Jennings. Jennings tells Namor Hydrobase is in
trouble just as Attuma's soldiers attack. Namor defeats them, but
is jumped from behind by Tiger Shark. When Namor looks up he sees
Tiger Shark and Dr. Dorcas allied with Attuma. Attuma rescued
Dorcas and Shark when their Men-Fish plant exploded. Attuma says
that with his leadership, Dorcas' scientific knowledge, and
Shark's power they will take over the world. Namor is still a
little upset about Attuma killing Dorma and Tiger Shark murdering
his father. He takes them both by the back of the neck and throws
them off a cliff into the water below. Dorcas helped Attuma by
allowing him to breathe oxygen. Namor dives in after them. He
hits Attuma, but is himself struck by Tiger Shark. Shark hits him
again as Attuma smashes Namor with a club. Namor strikes Attuma.
Namor dodges Shark's charge and causes him to hit Attuma. Shark
and Namor go at it, but as Namor goes to strike Attuma Dorcas
shocks Namor unconscious with a specially designed for underwater
use electrical gun.
Super-Villains Team-Up#2- Doom has been watching the whole time. Jennings escapes. As Attuma and Dorcas drag Namor ashore Tiger Shark discovers Doom's camera, a mechanical fish. Doom decides to aid Namor to sort of try and cement their own wary alliance. Doom flies to Hydrobase. Doom wals through the defenses and into two of Attuma's Octo-meks. Doom hypnotizes the Octo-meks' drivers to crash into each other. Doom meets up with a newly amphibious Betty Dean Prentiss, who first met Namor in the 40's. Betty tells Doom that Attuma is holding kids hostage to force hydro-base to work for him. Doom goes to rescue Namor in a special dehydrated cell. Doom finds Tiger Shark, Attuma, and Dorcas there. Dorcas slaps Betty enraging Namor. Doom blasts Shark and Attuma, but Dorcas is free to kill Namor. Betty jumps before the blast and is killed. Namor breaks free. He scoops up Betty and remembers Dorma dying and his father dying and he looks up a seethng cauldron of rage.
Super-Villains Team-Up#3- Namor leaps for Dorcas. Shark and Attuma grab him. Tiger Shark kicks him down, and Attuma jumps on Namor. Namor throws Attuma off, but Shark is back on him pummeling him. Namor says that he respects Shark because at least he lets his actions speak for him. Doom walks over and stun shocks Attuma and Shark. Doom tries to show Namor that battle with Tiger Shark and Attuma is beneath them. Doom teleports them to his ship as Shark and Attuma attack. Namor collapses. When Namor awakes Doom has decided to help his friend Namor against his foes. Shark and Dorcas search for Jennings while Attuma remains behind to torture Tamara. Doom throws an electronic harpoon on Shark. Dorcas destroys the harpoon. Doom ship surges with power and destroys all the Octo-meks. Dorcas calls Attuma to warn him Doom is coming. When Attuma rushes off to join Shark and Dorcas Namor frees the hostages. Namor then frees Tamara. While Attuma, Shark, and Dorcas fight Doom Namor sneaks up behind them with a ray Doom gave him. Namor decides that this isn't vengence, breaks the gun, and attacks Shark and Dorcas. Doom, without Namor's aid and even his personal power supply drained, is forced to flee. Shark battles Namor as Dorcas grabs his blaster. Doom tricks the barbarians into taking a power surge that his armor protects him from. Namor throws a defeated Shark at Dorcas. Dorcas ducks, but Shark his the legs of an Octo-mek which collaspes and kills him. The Amphibians of Hydrobase imprison Attuma and Tiger Shark.
Avengers #154- While Vision ditches the Serpent Crown, Attuma’s men attack and defeat Vision aboard their ship. Later Vision awakens in shackles. He tries to phase out of them, but receives a strong shock that stuns him. Attuma’s soldiers bring Vision before Attuma. Attuma knocks Vision to the ground. Attuma says that Vision is symbolic of all men in that he must be broken. He says that he is going to break the Vision. Vision says that Attuma can break his body, but not his mind. Attuma says that he has ways to break him. Attuma says that the Avengers are going to fight Namor for him, and no matter who wins Attuma will take over the world. Elsewhere disguised as Triton the Inhuman Tyrak invades Avengers mansion. He defeats Scarlet Witch with gas. Tyrak catches Cap’s shield and uses it to deflect Iron Man. Tyrak rips off Iron Man’s power source. He knocks out Wasp with gas. Yellowjacket catches her before she falls, but Tyrak catches them both. Tyrak knocks out Cap by knocking a wall onto him. Beast runs for help.
Super-Villains Team-Up#9- Attuma orders the Avengers to attack Hydrobase to get Namor, but finds Dr. Doom there instead. Dr. Doom defeats all the mind controlled Avengers.
Avengers #155- Namor having learned of Attuma's plans flies to stop him. Attuma tells his soldiers to steal a machine that increases the growth of sea life. The humans escape from the sea up an elevator. Attuma and his men rip through the wall to get in, but before Arno can kill the men Whizzer, Beast, and Wonder Man arrive to fight Attuma's soldiers. Attuma hits Beast from behind with his trident, but Wonder Man decks Attuma. Attuma and Wonder Man are locked in a test of strength over Attuma's trident. Wonder Man pushes him through a wall. Beast, Whizzer, and Wonder Man converge on Attuma when Namor arrives. Attuma orders the three of them to kill Namor. Namor figures they are Attuma's allies and he attacks them. While they all fight Attuma grabs the machine and swims to his getaway ship. Beast manages to follow him. Aboard Attuma's ship Beast overhears that with a few alterations to the Chlorobeam Attuma will attempt to conquer all. Vision who escaped Doom's bonds contacts Doom with an offer.
Avengers #156- Beast contacts Namor and the others with Attuma's location. Doom and his new allies the Avengers track Attuma through the homing signal of his slave collars. Beast is discovered and captured. Attuma says they will give him a slow death to provide them with some sport. Namor dives in and Wonder Man follows. By the time Wondy catches up he sees Tyrak pounding Namor unconscious. He also sees the Chlorobeam powering him up. Attuma is pleased to see Namor at his feet. He tells Tyrak that he is already the most powerful being on Earth from the rays, but after his next treatment his power will be unimaginable. Doom and the Avengers arrive. They go through Attuma's soldiers quickly until they reach Tyrak. The team works together and Wonder Man and Vision knock Tyrak out. The Avengers find Attuma already defeated. Attuma manages to tell Vision that Doom has already stolen the cell stimulator. Vision takes his cape back from Attuma. The Avengers go after Doom, but when they go Attuma attempts to shoot them with sea missiles. Namor remained behind however and he knocks Attuma out. Vision destroys the machine.

Bizarre Adventures #27-flashback- While Jean and Sara Grey are out sailing a sudden fog rolls in. The fog knocks them both out, but Jean falls overboard. When she awakens she finds she and her sister are breathing water and have blue skin. Jean also detects certain dampeners that weaken her powers. Attuma's guards bring his "brides" to him. Attuma has them sit and eat as he explains why they are there. Attuma says he has tried to best Namor several times, but now he has a new plan. Attuma is going to breed with mutants to create a mutant army for himself. Attuma tells "Marvel Girl" that the dampeners will cause her brain damage if she tries to use her powers. Attuma says that he doesn't really care if she does since she can still bear children as a vegetable. Jean finds that the dampeners would be adequate when she was Marvel Girl, but the power of Phoenix disables them. Jean uses a telekinetic force bolt against Attuma. They start running from the guards when Attuma comes at Jean with a sword. Attuma says he will feed her body to the sharks, but that he'll stick her head on a lance so she may watch the consummation of his marriage to her sister. Jean blocks Attuma's sword. Attuma tries forcing it down, but Jean bends it back. She blasts Attuma unconscious, and then starts to crumble the roof. They escape. (note- this is not the real Jean Grey, but the Phoenix )
Alpha Flight #36- flashback- Vashti, Thakos, and Lord Dara hire Attuma to fight off Shakkoth. Attuma agrees, but only if he is given command over both his and the Atlantean armies. Attuma lets the Atlantean soldiers bear the brunt of the fight, and then lets his soldiers slaughter the opposition that remained. With the war over Attuma notes that Atlantis needs his troops to "keep the peace" since all the Atlantean soldiers were killed in the war. Attuma's soldiers destroy all effigies set up in Namor's honor. Attuma uses Namor's choice to join the Avengers to show Atlantis that he prefers surface dwellers to them.
Alpha Flight #33- Marrina sees an Atlantean ship, and thinking it might be Namor she flees not wanting him to see her in her new monstrous state. Inside the ship, however, is Attuma. One of the ship's crew is worried that Marrina is swimming away too fast, but Attuma assures him that she cannot keep it up for long. He will capture Marrina and set a trap for Namor.
Alpha Flight #34- Marrina eventually starts to tire. She is swimming at just under 80 miles an hour when her body cramps. A net shoots over her, and the voice says to reel her in. Marrina realizes that this is not Namor. Attuma says that she should be guarded well.
Alpha Flight #35- Attuma alters the chemicals in Marrina's tank prison. She is compelled to tell her secrets, but she doesn't know any and cannot manage to speak anyway. Attuma remarks at Marrina's monstrous appearance and wonders if she would have been known as Queen Creature the First. Attuma reveals how Shakkoth seeking to rule Atlantis after Namor's abdication of the throne started a civil war. Attuma's barbarian army fought off Shakkoth's army, but now with no Atlantean army to oppose him Attuma has taken over Atlantis. Attuma recognizes that some view him as a dictator and long for Namor's return. Attuma says they should see what he would pick to be their queen. Attuma wants word of Marrina's capture to go forth so that Namor might come into his trap. Marrina clutches her stomach in pain again.
Alpha Flight #36- behind the scenes- Byrrah finds Namor and tells him of all Attuma has done. Namor storms off with pride preventing him from letting the Avengers help him.
Alpha Flight #37- Attuma begins to think that his bait for Namor has failed when Namor appears. Attuma says he is pleased that Namor's passion and pride has once again gotten the better of his brains.
Alpha Flight #38- Namor attacks Atlantis. He asks that the true Atlanteans aid their prince in freeing the woman he loves. Byrrah tries to tell Namor that this is why he wanted the Avengers to come. Atlantis prefers Attuma's orderly dictatorship to Namor's neglect, and they don't want Marrina as their queen. Namor says he owes Atlantis nothing then, and barrels in alone. Attuma points out that again Namor chooses an alien over his supposed people. The only vocal Atlanteans shout for Attuma's rule and Namor's execution. Byrrah tells Namor he is acting like a fool. He tells Namor to go get his friends. Attuma laughs as Namor disgraces himself by running away. Namor gets the Avengers while Byrrah goes to Alpha Flight.
Avengers #272

Attuma mocks Namor to Marrina. Marrina
asks why Attuma doesn't just kill her. Attuma says that Namor
will be back, but as soon as he has proof of Namor's death then
she may join her beloved into the embrace of death. One of
Attuma's soldier tells Attuma that two small forces are moving
against them. Attuma orders that they be surrounded and
obliterated. Attuma tells Marrina to pray that her rescuers die
quickly. The Avengers are defeating Attuma's men, and are then
joined by Alpha Flight. Attuma says that he will show Marrina
Namor's severed head so she can see his face before dying. One of
Attuma's men says that they have lost contact with the two
battalions Attuma sent out. Attuma hears the great warning horn
signaling that Atlantis is under attack. As both Avengers and
Alpha Flight are cutting through Atlantis' forces Attuma orders
up the heavy artillery. When he is told it may level the city he
says he would level a hundred to insure victory and kill Namor.
Namor charges into Attuma. He hits Attuma three times and through
a wall. Northstar frees Marrina. Attuma yells for his legions to
not let them escape. Attuma's troops surround the Avengers and
Alpha Flight.
Alpha Flight #39- Alpha Flight defeats a legion of Attuma's troops and runs into the Avengers. Attuma says he knew Namor would come back and show all Atlantis his true allegiance by bringing surface dwellers. Namor attacks Attuma while shouting for Northstar to get Marrina to safety. Attuma tells Namor that his "queen" turned Atlantis against him the most of all. Attuma's men surround the Avengers and Alpha Flight. Attuma orders his men to slay them all.
Avengers #272- Attuma orders them slain, but the Avengers and Alpha Flight fight back. Namor charges at Attuma, but Attuma smashes him with a large rock. Attuma says that this time it will be different because Attuma is the ruler and Namor the usurper. Attuma hauls back with a big machine, but Namor hits him in the face. Namor shouts that he doesn't want Attuma's throne. He says he might have never returned to Atlantis if Attuma hadn't kidnapped Marrina. Attuma orders his troops to stop fighting. Marrina tries to attack Attuma, but one of his guards shoots her. Namor slugs the guy and swims after her. The Avengers leave Attuma in charge because it is what the people have chosen, but threaten to return if he tries something like this again. Attuma thinks that he will get revenge no matter how long it takes.
Avengers annual #17- Looking for an "Evolutionary bomb" in the Pacific Ocean the Avengers go to the Lemurians. They find that the Lemurians are under attack by the Atlanteans. They put up the white flag. Cap lets Hulk and Hercules out at the main Atlantean ship. Hulk rips open the ship's wall, and as they go inside they face Attuma. Attuma's troops pull their guns, but Herc and Hulk plow through them. Cap finds out that Attuma attacks because his spies said that the ship that attacked him was Lemurian. After Attuma agrees to halt his forces Hulk and Hercules swim to deal with a giant weapon. The weapon sterilized the mature population of Atlantis and Lemuria. Attuma is furious that he'll have no heir (though it seems he knew he might have children through various women). Attuma and the Lemurians join the search for the High Evolutionary. They find Evolutionary's ship and figure the bomb will be set at the location of the destruction of Krakatoa. Atlanteans and Lemurians join together against Evolutionary to give the Avengers time to find the bomb. Evolutionary ditches them when he sees the heroes plans.
Iron Man annual #10- At a Lemurian rebel outpost Attuma attends a meeting with Lord Ghaur about forming an alliance to take over the world. Ghaur tells Attuma that all they have to do is re-assemble the serpent crown that will allow Set to manifest himself on Earth. Set will take over control of the world, but will allow them leadership of the planet. Ghaur says that with Llyra's rebel forces combined with Attuma's army they can weaken the United States for Set's return. Attuma agrees, but only if he is allowed command of the army. Later Attuma's troops check in as his troops go through the Panama Canal beneath ships as they pass. Attuma says to be sure to maintain the element of surprise. Namor and Iron Man stumble upon the invading armies as they investigate a Hydra ship passing through the canal. Attuma orders use of the Omega rocket. The Lemurian rebels are destroyed when the Hydra ship self-destructs. Namor is believed dead.
Andromeda goes to confront Attuma about the recent activities of the Atlanteans, and the reported death of Namor. As she enters the throne room Attuma's guards capture her in a net. Attuma asks for a reason not to kill her. Andromeda wants to know why Attuma allowed the illegal killing of Namor. Attuma says he is better off dead than to interfere with his plans to kill the surface dwellers. Andromeda says she knows many noble surface dwellers, and asks if Attuma would slay her too. Attuma draws his sword and says he intended to as soon as she entered. Andromeda tells Attuma that she is his first born child. Attuma asks which "sea cow spat you out then". Andromeda says Lady Gelva was her mother, and asks if Attuma would still kill her. Attuma says more than ever since he hated Lady Gelva. Andromeda runs and takes a position as leader of the rebellion against Attuma.
Avengers annual #18- Attuma receives a call from Lord Ghaur that they are ready to begin the next phase of the plan. Attuma says that Krang, Tyrak, Lord Arno, and U-Man stand ready to carry out their orders. Ghaur says they should attack the surface world then. Attuma isn't so pleased to be an intermediary. He is the ruler of Atlantis, and with Namor dead he doesn't want much more. Attuma decides to send out his lieutenants because while their lives are expendable, his is not. After all four of his armies suffer defeat. Attuma says he knew this was a stupid plan. Attuma wonders to himself what Ghaur's true intentions are.
X-Factor annual #4- Jean Grey rockets along as the sixth
bride of Set. Beast manages to drive her off course into the
ocean. They are found unconscious by Attuma’s men. Attuma
was leading an assault on a water purifying plant that produces
water that is lethal to them. Before they can kill them though
Attuma mistakes Jean Grey for the Phoenix that he wanted to sire
his child. Attuma takes Jean with him, but leaves orders that if
Beast lives to kill him. Andromeda’s rebels stop them, and
she and Beast go after Attuma. Attuma sits bare-chested without
his armor as Jean sleeps. When she stirs he stands up. Attuma
addresses Phoenix, and says that she will call him Master. Jean
tries to explain that the Phoenix wasn’t her, but Attuma
doesn’t believe her. Attuma advances on Jean, but she knocks
him back with her telekinesis. Attuma says her kisses will be
sweeter seasoned with blood, but Jean knocks him back again.
Attuma breaks open the glass and the chamber quickly fills with
water. Beast and Andromeda arrive just as Attuma gets his hands
on Jean. Beast plows into Attuma’s back. Attuma smacks
Beast. Andromeda tells Best to take Jean and go. She challenges
Attuma to a first born’s right of challenge. Attuma says she
may be first born, but that is reserved for males. Andromeda says
she was raised as a male, and Attuma agrees that she almost
erases his shame of having a female first born. Attuma swings his
sword into Andromeda’s staff. Attuma says Andromeda might
have beaten any Atlantean, but he is greater than any Atlantean.
Andromeda says Namor is his superior and that she will defeat him
too. Attuma knocks out Andromeda, and then puts on his armor to
kill her. Ghaur appears before Attuma as an illusion. Ghaur says
to stay his hand as he has need for Andromeda. Attuma says that
it isn’t his problem as he has defeated her in the challenge
of the first blood, and that her life is now forfeit. Ghaur takes
Andromeda and Attuma shouts that he cannot cheat him of his
triumph. Attuma shouts his rage at Ghaur.
Web of Spider-Man annual #5-The Atlantean army moves into New York harbor. The army, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four meet them in battle. After battling for a bit the Atlantean troops withdraw. A gigantic sea monster driven by another Atlantean soldier emerges from the sea. Attuma, Ghaur, and Llyra watch the battle from the bottom of the sea. Attuma revels as he feels his forces will soon be victorious. Suddenly an injured General Epititus appears before the High Council. Epititus tells Attuma that he doesn’t think that they can win this battle. He says that he thinks Ghaur and Llyra have deceived him. Attuma takes a gun and shoots Epititus dead. Ghaur and Llyra compliment Attuma on his leadership and leave. Later Attuma himself joins in the fight in New York. Spider-Man takes the driver of the giant sea beast out, and when the creature is brought back close enough to the sea it takes off and goes back into the water. As Attuma rallies his troops for Atlantis he gets a report that Lemurian crafts have destroyed Atlantis. Attuma stands stunned. The Atlantean troops run for it, but Attuma remains too stunned to move. Attuma is taken into custody to stand trial at the World Court.
Marvel Comics Presents #121- Attuma is seen stabbing one of the rebels in t he stomach as Nautak, formerly a rebel, betrays Andromeda and the other rebels. Andromeda saves Xiomara from Nautak. She tells her to get the other rebels to withdraw, but Xiomara says that Attuma had her father killed, and that she will avenge him. Andromeda manages to save the rebels by blowing a horn that causes a Kraken to collapse a cave trapping Attuma's men. Andromeda breaks the horn.
Namor annual 1-flashback- Attuma is pleased when the isolationist Atlanteans unanimously vote to stay out of the subterranean wars. Attuma feels that any death is one less person to oppose him as he tries taking over the world.
Namor #45- As a Japanese whaling boat is killing a whale under the guise of research (but really for commercial gain) Attuma's soldiers attack and kill everyone on board. Attuma says they will no longer pillage their food supply while their people starve. Later Attuma's men attack another whaling ship, but this time the ship came prepared. A group of ninjas pop up and start killing the barbarians. Attuma says to stop them they need only kill the leader. Attuma hurls his sword at the captain, but it is blocked by the bracelet of Namor. Attuma says this does not concern Namor. Namor grabs Attuma's sword and says that all things this close to his old home concerns him. Attuma grabs Namor's head and says it is no longer Namor's home, but his, and Namor is no longer welcome. Attuma orders his men to kill Namor, but Namor wades through them to smack Namor. Attuma says the people are commercial whaling at which point Namor starts to holler at the captain. Attuma watches as Sunfire attacks Namor. One of Attuma's men hits Sunfire in the back. As Namor and Sunfire fall into the water Attuma asks his man why he helped the half-breed. The barbarian says that Namor was helping them. Attuma says that he doesn't need Namor's help, and he doesn't need his either. Attuma throws the soldier into a wall. Attuma grabs a harpoon and shoots Namor a glancing blow in the back. Sunfire blasts Attuma. In the water Attuma lifts the entire whaling boat. He throws it at Sunfire, but Namor flies up and catches it. Attuma figures he has damaged the ship enough and tells his men that their mission is accomplished.
Namor #52- Following up on a botched expedition from 1915 Namor's company and a rival search team look for an ore that melts all metal near Old Atlantis. Namor fears for their safety from Attuma. As the diving team is injured from the same metal melting ore Namor goes to save them while Andromeda goes to face Attuma. Andromeda finds Attuma and is prepared to fight, but finds that the Sea Leopard has already defeated him. Sea Leopard defeats Andromeda as well, and holds the pair up as Namor arrives.
Namor #53- Namor charges Sea Leopard, but Sea Leopard bashes Namor's head together with Attuma and Andromeda. Sea Leopard casts Attuma and Andromeda aside. Later Attuma and Andromeda regain consciousness and attack Sea Leopard together as he tries to deal with Black Moray, the rival search team's leader. Andromeda hits high while Attuma hits him in the chest with a pole. Attuma then directs Andromeda to strike Leopard while Attuma grabs his foot. While they fight Moray sneaks off, but encounters Namor. Attuma, Andromeda, and Sea Leopard hear and feel an explosion from the sunken ship. Leopard realizes the ship he guarded since 1915 has been destroyed. He prepares to use his tail to skewer Attuma, but Andromeda jumps in the way. Attuma grabs his daughter upset since they were working so well together. Namor tricks Sea Leopard disguised as Black Moray. After Namor hits Leopard Attuma grabs Leopard from behind. Andromeda and Namor knock Leopard out. Attuma says he presumes Andromeda will come with him to Old Atlantis. Attuma swims away angry when Andromeda declines.
Hulk and Sub-Mariner '98 annual

Attuma's ship picks up an out cold and
dying Hulk from the ocean. His assistant gives Hulk a shot that
turns his skin blue, and allows him to breathe water. Hulk wakes
up in his usual good mood, and crashes out of the ship as it
drives away. Zantor, Attuma's scientist, says that Attuma did
nothing to save his life. Attuma says that the creature wanted
off his ship, and he wanted it off so he did nothing. Zantor says
they still have the material they harvested off the Hulk. Attuma
says they must first test it on Vashti. Attuma releases the now
gamma powered Vashti. Apparently at some point Namor tries to
stop the gamma powered Attuma, but cannot. The monstrous Vashti
finds his way to Hulk and Namor as they fight. The fight ends as
Vashti loses his gamma powers. Hulk also turns into Banner. When
Banner awakens he finds that Attuma has been rampaging through
Atlantis powered by his blood. Attuma plows into a hospital. A
father gets up to defend his wife and sick baby. Attuma floors
the guy with a pole. Attuma hears Namor, and looks up to see
Namor dumping an old sunken Destroyer ship on him. Namor swims
down to investigate, but Attuma hits him back out of the ship.
Attuma slams Namor against the ground. He starts to pull Namor's
arms back when Hulk jumps onto Attuma's shoulders driving Attuma
into the ground. Hulk says he will get his blood back by beating
it out of Attuma. Attuma hits Hulk. Namor and Hulk hit Attuma
together, but Attuma just smashes their heads together. Hulk and
Namor wonder why Attuma hasn't depowered like Vashti did. Namor
takes off after Zantor. Attuma continues to beat on Hulk until
Hulk low blows him, and then bites his thumbs. Hulk claps his
hands, and starts to charge. Hulk grabs his throat like the water
breathing elixir was wearing off, but really Hulk was just faking
so Namor could grab Attuma. Hulk rips the tubes that are feeding
Attuma a continual supply of Hulk's blood.
Citizen V and the V-Battalion #2- Attuma and the Atlanteans are being controlled by nano-probes as they fight against the V-Battalion. Namor provides Aubrey with the necessary Atlantean physiology in order to figure out how the nano-probes affect those underwater. With Namor’s help and the information MODOK gave them regarding the frequency of the nano-probes Roger manages to disable the nano-probes using his own voice.
