Desak

Desak was a member of a race that revered and respected their gods. They sacrificed members of their own race to appease them. Desak even sacrificed his own daughter to them. The gods still did not grant the rains that they promised because Desak's wife was angry and cursed them. Desak saw that his blind faith caused him to lose his daughter. Desak accepted an amulet froma spirit and set out to make sure that gods everywhere paid for their crimes towards their worshippers.

Thor annual 2001- flashback- Desak stands with his wife Almonnas and his daughter Loatia as the holy man says that Loatia has been chosen to be sacrificed to Kronnitt and the other gods. Loatia says that she is afraid, but Desak tells her that it is an honor to be chosen. Suddenly an apparition appears to Desak. She tells Desak that his gods are petty and evil, and that he must not give them his daughter. Desak says that he has no choice. Loatia asks who Desak is talking to. The spirit offers Desak a jewel that will allow him to protect his daughter. Desak falls to his knees and says that the spirit is evil to tempt him this way. Loatia goes forward and leaps into the chasm filled with fire. Desak looks down into the pit where his daughter just died. The spirit tells him that he has just made a very grievous error. Later Almonnas says that lots of other fathers refused to have their daughters sacrificed and asks Desak why he was so weak and relented. Desak says that he was strong and allowed his daughter to be sacrificed for the common good. His wife points out that it is supposed to rain after a sacrifice, but that it did not. Desak tells her to pray that she hasn’t offended the gods. Almonnas says that she will never pray again. Suddenly outside their house a huge explosion lights the sky. A giant being fills the sky saying, “Displeased. Non-believers, defilers, sinners, blasphemers.” Desak asks why when they serve him so well. The spirit appears over Desak and asks if he sees now the error he made. Desak says that if he had only listened to her. The spirit tells him to atone for his mistakes. She gives him an amulet that transforms him into an equal of the gods. She tells him to go imprison the gods’ dark souls and make their power his own. Desak tells those who dare to lord it over the less powerful that vengeance is coming.

Thor annual 2001- Desak hovers above the ground. He tells the inhabitants of a planet that they are now free to fashion their own destinies. The people say that he has taken away their caretakers. Desak says that they are men, not dogs. The people had sacrificed an innocent to the gods every cycle and in return they received sun and rain and their animals multiplied. The y say that now they are lost. As Desak leaves he says, “On the contrary, consider yourselves found.” In Olympus Zeus sends for Thor, Hercules, and Beta Ray Bill because The Silent One is there. Silent One shows them what Desak might do to Olympus in the future and then shows them Desak’s past. Later on a planet on the edge of existence Desak interrupts a religious service. Desak says that they must be freed from the prison of thought that confines them. He says that their jailers must be removed. The priest says that he must be a devil. As Desak ascends towards the heavens they attempt to shoot at him with their cannons. Desak says that they must be mad to attack him for offering them freedom. Desak finds the gods Tae and Pennsu talking about how unworthy their subjects are. They pray for rain and they muse about giving them a flood. Desak shouts, “Cruel jokers!” Tae tries to blast Desak, but his pendant absorbs the power and shoots it back at him. Desak grabs Pennsu and is about to kill her when Thor’s hammer hits Desak in the face. Desak looks up to see Thor, Hercules, and Beta Ray Bill. Desak blasts powers out of his sword and into Hercules’ face. Bill rushes Desak, but Desak swats him away. Thor hits Desak full in the face, but he is unmoved. Pennsu and Tae decide to kill their followers and combine hands. A stream of power strikes the planet below them. Thor tells Herc and Bill to stop them while he rescues those in danger. While Herc and Bill fight them Desak kills Tae and Pennsu. Desak says that Thor saved the people and now they revere him. They replaced one idol with another. Thor says that he does not request prayers or tributes. Desak says that Thor’s actions have earned him a portion of his trust, but that he will be watching. Desak disappears to kill other gods. Thor tries to ask him if he isn’t becoming that which he claims to hate, but by then Desak is gone.
