Strange Tales #134-

Avengers #16- Kang watches the development of the Avengers as Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man, and Wasp are leaving the team to be replaced by Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye. Kang says he must monitor them closely as he will be attacking again soon.

Avengers annual #21- flashback

Fantastic Four annual #3- Kang is one of the army of villain Dr. Doom mentally controlled into attacking the Fantastic Four on Reed and Sue's wedding day. Thankfully the superhero community is on hand. Kang winds up fighting Reed Richards and is wrapped up in his rubbery body. The Watcher "doesn't interfere' again as he shows Reed Richards a machine that "might" get rid of all the villains. Reed of course uses it and all the villains return to where they were before they came to attack.

Thunderbolts #13- flashback- Kang arrives on Kosmos and conquers everyone. He shatters the All-Hive, the system of government, and kills the primotur, or king. He enslaves all the people. Kang then has the scientist-caste build exoskeleton creatures in human shape that are charged with growth-pollen- the Growing Man.

Avengers #23-Kang watches the twentieth century from his time and sees that Captain America has left the Avengers. Kang says that even though his own century recognizes him as the most ruthless conqueror of all time the title rings hollow so long as the twentieth century escapes his tyranny. Kang recognizes the importance Captain America played in the Avengers line up. He says that the Avengers are at their weakest and he should strike now. Kang flies over the top of Avengers mansion with a flat ship that seems to be the top floor of the Avengers mansion as the air force checks out the UFO. Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch all charge up to the room to see what is happening. They charge into Kang’s ship. Kang activates his trap. A flash of light disorients them and then they are repeatedly shocked. Hawkeye manages to shoot an arrow through the device shocking them. Scarlet Witch notices that there doesn’t seem to be any oxygen in there. Hawkeye tries to blast the door open, but another device shoots the arrow down before it hits the door. Quicksilver tries to rush the door, but collapses before he can knock it down. Kang says that it is fortunate that they didn’t get the door open because they are really in a time travel device. Kang restores their oxygen because he doesn’t want them to die so soon. Kang says that now that he has them hostage in his own time it is time to begin the next stage of his plan. Kang storms into the royal palace and demands audience with Ravonna. Ravonna says that Kang dare enter without permission and then denies him. Kang tells Ravonna to remember that he is the true power, and that if she doesn’t watch it he won’t let her rule the universe by his side. Ravonna says that she would rather die, but Kang says that too can be arranged. Ravonna’s father tells her not to incur Kang’s wrath. Ravonna says even if the universe were his she would never share the throne with a commoner. Kang says that he could crush them with a fraction of his army, but lets her go because she has captured his heart. Kang warns her though that his patience is not as inexhaustible as his power. Captain America hears that the Avengers are missing and may have met with foul play. He goes after them. Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver wake up in Kang’s glass-like prisons. Scarlet Witch uses her hex to break the much more powerful than glass cage. She frees the others, but after Quicksilver scouts it out they realize that the path they are on leads nowhere. Kang’s face appears in the sky and tells them to agree to serve him as all man shall, or suffer the consequences. Kang sends his guards after the Avengers. Hawkeye shoots three arrows and they all swing over to the opposite side. As they swing they are pulled into a wall by Kang’s suction machine. The force is too strong for Hawkeye to use an arrow, but he throws an arrow and lets the suction pull it into the machine to blow it up. Kang admires their resolve, but says he feels sorry for them that they cannot win. Kang tells his guards to back off, and then sends the labyrinth the Avengers are in into darkness. Kang shoots them with his spectrum-inverter. Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye are paralyzed, but Quicksilver’s speed keeps him moving. Suddenly Kang sees Captain America in the past shouting at Kang. He tells Kang that his victory is meaningless unless he defeats him too. Suddenly Ravonna stands by Kang she asks if the “mighty conqueror” will accept the challenge. Kang brings Captain America forward in time to show Ravonna his worth. Ravonna guides Captain America’s destination location. Kang says he will still win. Kang sends his guards after Cap and Quicksilver, but they are defeated. Kang tells them that he has no stomach for failures. He says he will deal with the Avengers himself, and that their punishment will be swift and severe. Kang goes to his master control room, but Cap and Quicksilver attack him there. Quicksilver bounces off Kang’s force field. Cap throws his shield, but Kang activates his molecule expander. It shoots Cap’s shield back at him, but also causes it to grow to an enormous size. Cap dodges the shield and Quicksilver hits Kang. Kang sees that Ravonna and the nobles are watching. He blasts Quicksilver and Captain America with his spectro-wave knocking them out. Kang says that he demands Ravonna’s answer as he has earned it through right of conquest. Ravonna says that the other two Avengers will have recovered by now. Kang demands an answer. Ravonna says that no one commands a princess. Kang says that his troops surround her kingdom right now and that he will conquer her land depending on her answer. Ravonna regrets that if only Kang had wooed her with tenderness she would have been his. Her father says to think of their subjects, but Hawkeye’s arrow interrupts before Ravonna can answer. Kang says, “The die is cast. I shall be merciful no longer! Let the fate that befalls be upon all your heads!” Kang signals to his army to attack.

Avengers #24- Hawkeye asks Kang if he became known as conqueror by sending a thousand divisions against a helpless kingdom. Kang says that this wasn’t his choice, but it was forced upon him. Ravonna’s people erect their shield, but it won’t last long. Captain America says that they have Kang and will not let him get away. Kang asks if Cap forgot that they are in the future, and causes a mist to surround him, and by the time Quicksilver has dispersed it Kang is long gone. Outside the shield Kang tells his men to hold their fire. He says that their artillery is useless against a plasto-shield. He orders that the Delta-Ray be fired. Thousands of troops advance on the kingdom. The defenders are all picked off. A giant War Machine crashes through the defensive wall. Kang then launches computer guided missiles that all explode at once. Ravonna’s father wants to take her away, but Ravonna says she won’t run from Kang. Kang’s troops break through into the room. The Avengers start defeating Kang’s men as they can only enter the room a few at a time. Kang’s men find a secret entrance. One downs Hawkeye with the butt of his rifle. They put Cap down with a deep sleep ray, and bind Scarlet Witch. Quicksilver was knocked out by the Delta-Ray and hidden by a woman he saved. Kang has the three imprisoned. Kang sends for Ravonna, and says that Quicksilver must be captured or slain within the hour. Kang says that he claims Ravonna as his prize, and to prepare for a royal wedding. Baltag interrupts and says that their code is that all monarchs are to be quickly slain so that they do not regain their thrones. Kang tells Baltag to shut up and that the rules are his to make and break. Baltag says that the other three officers stand with him. They follow Kang because he is ruthless, but if he shows mercy they will follow no longer. Kang gives them an hour to reconsider and then come beg his forgiveness, and then since it is his wedding day he might be merciful. Baltag and the others decide that they should attack right away while Kang is thinking of Ravonna. Kang is thinking of Ravonna and how conquering is just a game to him, but that Ravonna is the only thing he truly prizes. Kang’s armor warns him of assassins that were sent after him. Kang kills them all, but realizes that he will now have to contend with his entire army to save the life of Ravonna. Kang contacts Captain America about teaming up. In exchange for saving Ravonna Kang agrees to withdraw from the land. Hawkeye tells Cap that this is nutty, and asks if he’ll be teaming up with Dr. Doom next. Kang thinks to himself how they would be surprised at how closely related to Dr. Doom he is. Captain America knocks out Ravonna’s cell’s guards. Kang says how his soul rejoices that she has not been hurt. Ravonna says that she has never heard Kang speak that way. Kang has Captain America explain to Ravonna because she will believe him. On Ravonna’s request her army now follows Kang. The others realize that they made a mistake following Baltag when he just starts shouting threats where Kang would have given leadership and tactics. Kang strikes at his army’s weakest spot. The army starts to retreat and has to hope that Kang will be merciful with them. Kang goes to his master control room. He has made it so that the room activates only from the sound of his heartbeat. Kang causes his battle vehicles drive through the wall. Kang says he will deal with Baltag personally, but when he enters the room he finds that Quicksilver has rounded Baltag and all the traitors rounded up. Ravonna remarks that Kang risked everything he has to save her. Kang says that he has vowed to free her land, and he extends the same freedom to her. Cap asks about Kang’s army. Kang says they will fall in line with a snap of his fingers. Kang then starts to send the Avengers back to their own time, but as Captain America fades he tries to warn Kang. Baltag grabs a guard’s gun and shoots at Kang. Ravonna dives in front of Kang because she finally realizes that she does love him. Kang holds Ravonna asking if he has finally won her love and it is too late. Ravonna says that perhaps it was never meant to be.

Avengers #269- flashback-

Thor #140- The Growing Man awakens and starts smashing things apart. He says that he must find the Master to learn his purpose. He says the Master created him and must be obeyed. As Growing Man rampages he grows bigger and bigger as others attack. Kang catches up with the Growing Man and shoots him with a de-energizer. Growing Man shrinks back down to a doll’s size. Kang says that he hid Growing Man there not realizing that man would unearth him before he was ready. Kang says that he will hide Growing Man again until he has need for him. Two policemen who were following the Growing Man find Kang. Kang tells them to keep their distance. Kang reactivates Growing Man. Suddenly Thor arrives and strikes Growing Man. Growing Man gets bigger and so it goes. Growing Man begins to worry that he will get too big for the Earth to hold him. Growing Man calls out for the Master. Thor realizes that Growing Man is just a stimuloid built by Kang. Kang grabs Thor from behind with a glove that radiates cobalt energy. Thor is dropped to his knees. Kang says that he doesn’t seek to conquer Thor this day, but rather the forces in his own timeline. Kang shrinks Growing Man again so that he can take him into the future with him. Kang picks up the Growing Man and Thor reveals that he was faking to learn Kang’s agenda. Kang says that Thor is very clever, but too late. Kang enters his time machine. Thor throws his hammer around the time machine. The machine disappears and Thor somehow decides that he affected Kang’s disappearance.

Thor annual #17- flashback-

Avengers #69- flashback- Kang sits mourning his lost Ravonna, and wishes that he had the power of life and death. Suddenly the Grandmaster appears before him, and says that he has that power to grant. Grandmaster says will be play Kang in a game, very much like chess, for the power of life and death and the fate of his beloved Ravonna. However if Kang loses Grandmaster will sentence Kang and the entire Earth into oblivion as if it had never existed. Grandmaster then demonstrates oblivion for Kang on two of his guards. Grandmaster says that he will return in one year to play for the fate of Ravonna and the Earth.

Avengers #69- While Tony Stark lies on his deathbed in a hospital Wasp notices a doll under his bed. She throws the doll in the trash. The impact reveals the doll to be the Growing Man. Growing Man grows and climbs out of the trash. Growing Man fights with the police and the Avengers growing all the time, but fulfills its mission and grabs Tony Stark from his hospital bed. Growing Man is so tall that he walks right through the building and down the street. A beam comes down and returns the Growing Man to man size, and pulls it and Tony Stark up. The other Avengers have no choice but to follow though they suspect a trap. The Avengers find themselves before Kang in the year 4000 AD. Kang's love Ravonna is in a tube. Kang says that Stark and Growing Man are in a small frigid fireball. The Avengers ask why they are there, and Kang says they are there to serve him. Thor gets angry because as a god he says he shouldn't be talked to this way. Kang's soldiers rush the Avengers. After the Avengers paste them they head towards Kang, but the Black Panther stops them saying Kang and the Avengers are the earth's only hope. Kang says it was his fault for assaulting the Avengers' pride. Kang shows them Ravonna, and tells the Avengers of how he met the Grandmaster. Captain America agrees to help Kang for the sake of the world, but only if Kang sends Tony Stark back to his time to save his life. Kang agrees saying Stark was used only to get to the Avengers. The Grandmaster arrives. Grandmaster says he knows Kang has learned the rules of the game from the board, and hopes he wisely chosen his champions because in a thousand years and a thousand games he has never lost. Kang says that he will have to be the first then, and chooses the Avengers. Grandmaster says he figured as much, and Captain America, Goliath (Hawkeye), Thor, and a fourth that will join in later are transported to the game board. The game board morphs the planet Earth, and the Avengers see Grandmaster's champions: Dr. Spectrum, Hyperion, Nighthawk, and the Whizzer- the Squadron Sinister.

Avengers #70- Kang slams his fist against the table, and tells his guards to take away the food because it is battle which must occupy his mind not food. Kang asks the Avengers how the game goes, but they say the Grandmaster won't address them, as they are merely pawns. Kang demands to know why the game has not started yet. Grandmaster was creating his part of the contest, but now he is finished. He says they can begin as soon as no unfriendly eyes are on them. The men Kang ordered to fire upon Grandmaster explode. Grandmaster and the Avengers both express disappointment in Kang, Kang agrees but says he never makes the same mistake twice. Grandmaster points out the viewscreen to Kang in time to see Kang's fourth, Iron Man, arriving. They then divide going off to certain famous monuments: Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal, Big Ben, and the Sphinx. Kang points out to Grandmaster that Captain America has defeated Nighthawk at the Statue of Liberty. Grandmaster says it is the final outcome that matters, and that Kang must win three more battles. Iron Man defeats Dr. Spectrum at the Taj Mahal. Thor defeats Hyperion at the Sphinx. Goliath is fighting Whizzer when Black Knight interferes. Grandmaster calls a halt to the game as interference tainted the game. Grandmaster pulls Goliath and Whizzer back to the future for a second and final phase of the game.

Avengers #71- Kang curses the day he accepted the Grandmaster's challenge, but he had to try and cure Ravonna. Ravonna stands motionless, not dead, but also not alive. Kang says there are no time for tears or remorse because they are for lesser beings. Kang heads to Grandmaster to finish their game. Kang's reserves: Vision, Yellowjacket, and Black Panther are sent into Paris in 1941 during World War II. They are brought face to face the Invaders: Captain America, Human Torch, and Namor. The Invaders assume that they are nazis, and the fighting begins. Kang's men try to deal with the Black Knight how has come to the future to get back his ebony blade that Goliath was holding when pulled back to the future. Kang's team wins when Vision phases through, but partially resolidifies, through all three Invaders. Grandmaster says that Kang wins, but since he only won half the game he can only gain the power to kill or create life. Kang says he was always playing for Ravonna. Suddenly the Avengers, freed by Black Knight from Kang's spheres of solitude, storm in. The Avengers want to be returned to their time, but Kang says the only thing he thing he feels more than his love for Ravonna is his hate for the Avengers. Kang tells Grandmaster to give him both the power of life and death. Grandmaster says he cannot. Kang decides Ravonna can wait for his genius to figure out a way to resurrect her, and he chooses the power of death. Grandmaster grants the gift, but tells him to hurry lest it cause Kang's death as well. Kang is filled with power. Captain America and Black Panther charge Kang, but are bounced off. Thor throws his hammer, but it passes right through Kang. Kang wonders what it will be like watching an immortal die. The Black Knight storms in and knocks Kang down with his ebony blade. Grandmaster says he granted the power of death over the Avengers, but Black Knight is not an Avenger. Kang lay on the floor saying it was all a trick. As Grandmaster leaves and restores the Avengers to their own time he says to pity Kang for his heart had more hate than love.

Avengers Forever #3

Avengers Forever #9-Kang sits in (“The Great Forgetting”, “the Unending Cold”, or the “Lost Zone”) Purgatory licking his wounds after his defeat to Immortus at Chronopolis. Kang tells his computer to access his autobiography tapes. He takes off his mask and says to himself that he feels old and tired. He recalls how he first discovered the time machine. His rule as Pharaoh Rama-Tut, his unseating by the Fantastic Four, his first encounter with Dr. Doom. He recalls his stint as the Scarlet Centurion in another reality. Kang recalls his visit to the fortieth century. He finds it a war torn, barbaric place…he is in heaven. Kang then designed his armor inspired by his meeting with Dr. Doom. He conquered Earth and then into space. Kang remembers feeling unfulfilled because his conquests were over a ravaged people. Kang then set out to conquer the twentieth century. It was then he first fought the Avengers. Kang reflects upon whether Immortus was influencing him about the Avengers or if he influenced Immortus through his respect of them. He remembers his conquest of space and remembers how he came to get the Growing Men from the Court of Kosmos. After pondering his career further Kang wonders if it was wise for him to eliminate his other selves. He recalls the Cross-Time Kangs and thinks of what morons they were. Finally he thinks about how he has felt himself turning into Immortus and how he loathed it. Kang decides to fight his greatest battles against Immortus to prevent himself from becoming him. Kang recalls how the Destiny War begins. Kang is pleased that he has regained his fire, but isn’t sure how to proceed. Suddenly the Supreme Intelligence appears to Kang. Supreme Intelligence tells Kang that there are developments of which he needs to be made aware. Kang transports to Supreme Intelligence and asks what he wants. Rick Jones steps out from behind. Rick tells Kang that the Avengers are in trouble and that Immortus has them. Kang, Supreme Intelligence, and Rick are the universe’s last hope. Kang says that they have work to do. He smiles as he turns.

Avengers Forever #10- As the Avengers are about to oppose the Time-Keepers to keep humanity free from their censure. Yellowjacket had betrayed the team, but when he realized that he was wrong he called in Supreme Intelligence, Kang, and Rick Jones. They arrive just as the fight begins.

Avengers Forever #11- Kang shouts that he wants the Avengers to follow him and they will destroy the Time-Keepers. Kang tells Supreme Intelligence that he wants a complete analysis of their defense. Intelligence tells him that he will have it. Kang tells them that their assault is affecting their force field. Kang tells Supreme Intelligence to continue adapting to the frequencies to do the most damage. The Time-Keepers get nervous that their field is being affected. They grab Immortus and go to destroy all but the necessary timelines that ensure their own existence. Yellowjacket tells Kang that he planted a Limbo bug on Immortus that he can track. Everyone gets onto the “Supreme Cycle”. They track the Time-Keepers literally to the End of Time. Kang tells the Avengers to kill the Time-Keepers, but Wasp says that they are Avengers and they avenge they don’t kill. Songbird wonders if they even stand a chance. Supreme Intelligence laughs and says that the Time Keepers are “born of man” and that they just have very superior technology. Kang says that all technology can be countered with other technology. The “Supreme Cycle” arrives at the End of Time. They begin firing on the shield again. Supreme Intelligence tells Kang that the shield will fall in another nineteen seconds. The Time-Keepers try to use the Forever Crystal to eliminate the Avengers, but Immortus grabs it from them. The Time Keepers destroy Immortus. Kang wonders if he just witnessed his own death. The Time-Keepers then use the Forever Crystal to call forth every timeline that went evil. Kang tells the Avenges to continue battling against the endless evil Avengers despite the hopelessness. Supreme Intelligence asks Libra where he stands. Libra decides that despite his respect for balance he must join in the fight with the Avengers. Libra activates the Destiny Force and the Avengers all gain the power. The Time-Keepers spot Libra and use his own power to freeze him and all his allies except for Kang. The Time Keepers say that they will now deal with Kang personally. They say that while they cannot kill him because he is the only Kang left and he must become Immortus they say that they can accelerate his change into Immortus. Kang shouts that he will never submit to becoming that “simpering, feckless academic.” Kang screams as the change starts to occur. Captain Marvel manages to move as he is not human. He bangs his nega bands together and changes into an older and battle weary Rick Jones. The hold is broken and the fighting continues. Kang is still being changed, but he says that he will die before he submits. The elder Rick Jones and the current Rick Jones activate the Destiny Force again and summon all the good Avengers from every good timeline.

Avengers Forever #12- As the fighting continues Kang is being wrenched in two though he refuses to surrender. Supreme Intelligence cannot help because his connection to Kang has been broken. Kang’s body seems to be ripping into two. Kang starts to tear free from the half of him that is becoming Immortus. The backlash sends the Time-Keepers reeling. Kang stands unchanged. The Time-Keepers are left weak because of the energy they expended. The Time Keepers are about to activate the Chrono-canon, but a Destiny Force Rick Jones crashes through it. The Time Keepers are left weak and on the ground. Kang stands before them gloating. He shoots them all and screams, “KANG CONQUERS!” Kang turns to grab the Forever Crystal, but Captain America already has it. He says that it is too powerful for anyone to have. Cap destroys the crystal with his bare hands. Kang shouts at Captain America that he is a fool. Suddenly a very young Immortus rises and says that the crystal cannot really be destroyed. Immortus quickly grows into adulthood. He says that the crystal will return at a random time. Immortus vanishes to persue his second chance at life. Kang laughs, thrilled that his destiny is no longer determined to become Immortus. Kang vanishes wondering how many worlds he can conquer now that he is free.

Kang is practicing fighting with his staff and a group of robots. Kang says to his son that he is too impetuous. He says that a good commander takes advantage of chance, but not at the expense of the long term strategy for short term goals. Kang says that one must gauge everything before striking. Centurion says that it is easy for Kang because he has proved himself against the Avengers time and time again. Centurion says that he is tired of this inactivity and longs to prove himself too. Kang says that he will have many opportunities but that they must finish their preparations.

Avengers vol. 3 #40- Kang sits and watches the Avengers with the Scarlet Centurion. Centurion says that the Avengers are weary and that they should strike now. Kang agrees but adds that if they have planned well and are courageous no force in the universe will be able to stop them.
