Avengers #247- Wasp contacts Avengers Mansion as the Eternals are forming the Uni-Mind. Suddenly the screen goes haywire. Vision says that it is too much of a coincidence that it occurred as the Wasp cried out. A voice comes over the screen and says that Vision is correct that it was no coincidence. He tells Vision not to bother trying to adjust his controls. He says that he is in now in charge of transmission and the equipment in the city. Maelstrom does apologize for cutting the transmission. He says that it wasn’t his intention, and that he rather likes the idea of an audience for his moment of triumph. Vision asks who the voice is. Maelstrom says that his true name would be meaningless, but that he calls himself Maelstrom. Maelstrom says that he is about to become unstoppable as he is going to take over the Uni-Mind.
Avengers #248-
Avengers #249- Deathurge stands in Maelstrom’s base as a translucent tube begins to shimmer and dissolve. Deathurge greets Maelstrom back from the dead. Maelstrom says that none of this would have been necessary if Deathurge had stopped the Avengers. Deathurge says that it was not their time to be stopped. Maelstrom asks what that is supposed to mean as he affixes his helmet to finish dressing. Deathurge says that he is only serves to bring the final sleep. Deathurge says that he has served Maelstrom twice so far, and that he will serve him twice more before it is over. Maelstrom notes that he only has only clone left, and that it isn’t ready yet. Maelstrom says that he has to make sure and build more. Deathurge says that he will never have the chance. He says such is his own Death-urge. Maelstrom says that he only submits to death temporarily and by his own terms. He says that life and power are his chief concerns and that he will not surrender either without a fight. Deathurge says that he is not needed there then. As Deathurge leaves, Maelstrom thinks about how he regrets ever taking Deathurge into his confidence. Maelstrom thinks to himself how his time with the Uni-Mind showed him how he could have all the power of the world.
Avengers #250- Maelstrom brings his new thralls back to life. Phobius, Helios, and Gronk adjust to their surroundings. They start to have a fight, but Maelstrom smacks them with a bio-kinetic lash to discipline them. Maelstrom reminds them that he is the one that gave them their practical immortality. That he always has a spare body for each of them allowing them to live forever, but he must decide that he wants them to continue living. They fall right in line. Maelstrom says that they can start by making themselves more presentable. He says that they have much to do over the next few days, but when they are finished they will be invincible. At Avengers mansion Vision thinks that the body of Maelstrom is in fact a fake. The Avengers find out that Maelstrom is still alive and that he is causing the Earth’s rotation to slow as he absorbs the kinetic energy. Photon went to one of the triangulated points where Maelstrom might have been and ran into Phobius. Phobius places a great fear inside Photon to ever return to the spot. The Avengers head to the spot, but as they arrive in their quinjets Helios uses his wind powers to throw them around. Starfox overwhelms his pleasure center and gets Helios to take him to Maelstrom’s land. Phobius and Gronk come to fight and Phobius’ power counters Starfox’s. Simon fights Helios as Hercules fights Gronk. The others press ahead and run right into Maelstrom. Simon knocks out Helios' with one finger. Hercules defeats Gronk, but then suddenly the other Avengers are smashed up through the ground by the now giant Maelstrom. Maelstrom says that nobody can defeat him, and to defy him to defy the Earth itself. Vision tries to phase into Maelstrom, but hurts himself. Maelstrom laughs. Tigra points out that absorbing the Earth’s kinetic energy will only give him a dead world to rule. Maelstrom says that he is satisfied to absorb it all over time and that it is fun to watch everything eventually ruin. He says that by the time the world is dead he will have the power to go anywhere in the universe. Maelstrom says that he is destined to be the most powerful being in the universe and says that the only things that matters to him are power and revenge. Maelstrom grabs Hercules, Wonder Man, and Starfox and makes them into a kinetic battery. He then goes about attacking the others. Photon is still paralyzed in fear, but when she sees Maelstrom grab and start to kill Tigra she snaps out of it. Photon blasts Maelstrom. Iron Man attacks Maelstrom and gets him to chase him. While Maelstrom fights with the others Eros tells Vision to try to overload Maelstrom with power. As Maelstrom gets bigger and bigger he tries to keep up by expanding the reach of his personal bio-field, but it is going too fast because of the Scarlet Witch’s hex. Maelstrom grows larger and larger. Because his power keeps increasing exponentially, but he doesn’t have the time to convert it into mass Maelstrom keeps expanding and expanding until he covers the entire universe but without substance.

Quasar #24- flashback- Maelstrom’s essence travels to Oshkosh Wisconsin. He sees a young boy reading an Iron Man comic book. Maelstrom says, “You…are the Unbeing?” The boy replies that he is and asks who the heck he is. Maelstrom says that he is Maelstrom, the living anomaly… prime agent of oblivion. Unbeing says that it is always good to meet a fellow master of the Dark Force. Maelstrom says that he wanted to thank Unbeing for making the Eon’s supposed protector of the universe undetected. He says that if Unbeing had not cancelled his origin that Maelstrom could not have passed through the surveillance web around the Earth undetected. Unbeing says that what he uncreates stays that way. Maelstrom says that surely he doesn’t think that such a cosmically connected being will take his unmaking lying down. Unbeing admits that he is somewhat new to this particular body. He thanks Maelstrom for the warning. Maelstrom takes his leave. He says that Quasar is near and that he has much to do. After he goes Maelstrom thinks how unseemly it is for a ten year old boy to house the Unbeing, but decides that isn’t his concern and that he should concentrate on finding a dwelling place that befits his stature as the Earth’s most powerful being. Maelstrom decides to find some millionaire and give him a brain hemorrhage (the way he did Quasar’s father) and take over his place. Maelstrom says that after Quasar defeats the Unbeing and his minions he will lure him into his stronghold.

Quasar #24- Maelstrom says to Deathurge that he has
cosmic awareness. He says that he understands how everything in
the universe relates to everything else. Maelstrom says that
knowledge is absolute power. Maelstrom says that stopping the
Earth’s rotation is but the merest prelude to his ultimate
goal of stopping all kinetic energy in the universe. Maelstrom
says that he will cause it to reverse and the universe will
collapse on itself. Deathurge asks if he really has that kind of
power. Deathurge asks how he dares question him. Maelstrom says
that he has his original kinetic power, the attributes of the
reality-bending abstract being Anomaly, Quasar’s quantum
bands, and Eon’s cosmic awareness. Deathurge asks where
Quasar is. Maelstrom says that he fled into the Quantum Zone.
Maelstrom says that it may be a ploy, but that he isn’t
worried. He says that as soon as he exists in reality he will
know it and deal with it. Deathurge asks if there is anything
Maelstrom wants him to do. Maelstrom tells Deathurge to put the
Watcher’s eyes out. Deathurge asks what Watcher. Maelstrom
tells him the one that is standing behind him. The Watcher says
that he has appeared and in interacting to ask Maelstrom to
reconsider his course of action. Watcher asks if it doesn’t
bother him to destroy the world where he was born. Maelstrom
laughs. Watcher asks if when Maelstrom destroys the universe that
he might perish as well. Maelstrom flies off and says that they
will just have to wait and see. Maelstrom floats in space
creating a vortex. Maelstrom has stopped the expansion of the
universe. He picked a “center” of the universe where he
created the vortex that soon will dwarf the size of the Milky Way
galaxy. All matter in the universe is being drawn to that spot
now. Maelstrom decides that he should probably go. He says that
he is omniscient, but not omnipotent. He says that he has some
personal matters to attend to. Maelstrom flies to Galactus’
world ship. Galactus is unaware of Maelstrom’s arrival.
Maelstrom alters his physical form to be larger than Galactus.
Maelstrom greets Galactus. Maelstrom says that his position is
greater than Galactus’. Maelstrom says that because of
Galactus’ being from the previous universe that he thinks
that he is unique to the other beings in the universe, and yet
like the lowliest creature he requires sustenance. Maelstrom says
that Galactus is ruled by his hunger, but that he is not hunger
itself. Maelstrom says that he is a concept. He says that he will
destroy the universe Galactus depends on. Maelstrom says that
even the Ultimate Nullifier wouldn’t affect him. Maelstrom
flies to Thanos’ retreat. Maelstrom says that he has to be
careful here because Thanos’ infinity gems may be more
powerful than him if he has become adept at using them. Maelstrom
sees Mephisto is with Thanos. Mephisto asks Thanos if he senses
evil approaching. Maelstrom bows before Thanos and introduces
himself. He says that he is the one being in the universe that
doesn’t fear Thanos. Maelstrom says that Thanos fancies
himself God. Maelstrom says that many races in the universe
don’t even believe in a god. Maelstrom says that Thanos
can’t even conceive of anything greater than godhood.
Maelstrom says that Thanos’ vanity and lack of
sophistication will be his undoing. Thanos shouts that God is
everything and that he is God. Thanos blasts Maelstrom. Maelstrom
says that he is an atheist then. Maelstrom disappears. In the
Quantum Zone, Quasar meets Infinity and gets another chance to
defeat Maelstrom. Maelstrom flies to the mothership of the Prime
Celestial Host. Maelstrom enters and spots Arishem. Maelstrom
thinks that it is important for him to have personal knowledge of
all agents of death and destruction because he will have a use
for them all. Maelstrom tells Arishem that his work as a judge of
life is now obsolete as all life will end. Maelstrom says that he
can feel Arishem judging him, but that he cannot judge someone
who is his superior. Maelstrom says that Arishem’s
judgements are useless as he has already judged everything.
Suddenly Maelstrom senses that “he” is back and leaves
Arishem. Maelstrom finds Quasar trying to fix the black hole.
Maelstrom uses his cosmic awareness to learn that Infinity helped
Quasar. Maelstrom says that Quasar has his benefactor and he that
he has his own. He says that it is always easier to destroy than
create. Maelstrom tackles Quasar. They fall into the black hole.
Maelstrom is compressed into nothingness because his body was
partially composed of matter. The black hole rages on.
