Maximus' chronology continues...
X-Factor annual #2- Quicksilver and Lockjaw are “on
a mission” to kidnap Franklin Richards. X-Factor is
accidentally teleported to Attilan when Lockjaw mistakes
Quicksilver’s order to “go home”. It hurts
Quicksilver to see Luna, his daughter. When Lockjaw teleports
them out Medusa is dragged along. Quicksilver presents Franklin
to Maximus. Maximus laments that having mind controlled slaves
ruins it when he really wants someone to applaud his brilliant
schemes. Maximus tells Pietro that he can put Franklin down as
the room is sealed and he cannot escape. Maximus has Medusa in
restraints. Black Bolt locates Lockjaw’s power, and they
race off to stop them. Triton arrives first through the waterway.
Maximus watches as they come. Maximus says that people think him
mad, but he uses that madness to infect other’s minds and to
free his own of the madness. The madness he implants in others
also allows him to control those people- like Quicksilver,
Crystal, and Lockjaw. Maximus wants to use Franklin’s
incredible psionic powers to use his as a conduit to control
everything. He knows that Franklin supposedly lost these powers,
but he doesn’t believe it. Once Triton hears what Maximus
has planned he breaks the machine he intends to do it with.
Suddenly X-Factor and the Inhumans appear. Maximus protects
himself with his force field. He tells Quicksilver to grab
Franklin, and that if it looks like anyone else will gain control
of his power to kill him. Marvel Girl blocks Quicksilver’s
escape routes telekinetically. Maximus tells Lockjaw to teleport
them out while he controls Black Bolt with good old mechanical
mind control. Iceman’s overloading powers trap Lockjaw,
Quicksilver, and Franklin. Maximus orders Black Bolt to kill
everyone. Quicksilver’s deluded mind sees Franklin as Luna.
When Medusa is sent against Black Bolt Maximus’ control
weakens more as lovers shouldn’t be made to fight. When
Gorgon hits the ground the shaking allows Marvel Girl to find a
way inside the force field. He hits the ground again, and she
telekinetically turns off the field with the lever. Gorgon and
Karnak grab Maximus.
Atlantis Rising #1- Nathaniel Richards’
investigation of the Watcher’s home on the Blue Area of the
moon accidentally creates a sort of black hole. The home of the
Inhumans, Attilan, is rapidly running out of atmosphere. The
Fantastic Four fly to the moon in the Stealthhawk. Leonus and
Timberius decide that with the genetics council having abandoned
them, and with the Royal Family banished long ago there is only
one that can save them. They go to free him, and as Leonus says,
“and may Agon have mercy on our souls”. The FF manage
to save Attilan by shrinking it down and transporting it to Earth
on their ship. Back on Earth they enlarge the beings in the city.
Too late to stop him Susan Richards recognizes Maximus the Mad
standing before them. Maximus knocks them all out with his
atmo-gun.

Fantastic Four #402- behind the scenes- The
Fantastic Four land in London. The army there takes custody of
Maximus and his associates. Black Bolt and the others spot them
on television.

Inhumans vol. 3 #1- Black Bolt looks in on his
brother Maximus using a two-way mirror. Maximus sits before the
mirror and places his hand on the glass. He says, "I know
you're there brother." Maximus says that he knows there is
something on Black Bolt's mind. Black Bolt wonders what he would
say to his brother, "Are there words enough to satisfy a
cannibal of the heart?" Maximus sparkles with power as he
asks Black Bolt how he is doing, but is quick to add that it's a
rhetorical question as he wouldn't want Black Bolt answering and
killing him like he killed their parents. Maximus asks if Black
Bolt would tell everyone about it, and risk his throne. Maximus
says that as Black Bolt stands there like a statue there is a
flaw. He says Black Bolt should admit it since he knows it's
eating him up inside.
Inhumans vol. 3 #2- For their prank on the day
before being exposed to the Terrigan Mists Dewoz suggests that
he, Tonaja, and Kalikya go see the madman. They sneak in through
the air ducts right up above Maximus' cell. Maximus holds his
food as he stares into the mirror. Maximus is talking to Black
Bolt again saying that if he shuts his eyes tight enough he can
blind himself to reality. Maximus imitates Black Bolt as a child,
"Wah…wah…Maximus is being mean to me. Someone stop
him." Maximus shouts at the mirror that nobody will listen
to him that there is a flaw. Tonaja and Kalikya are creeped out
and start to leave. Maximus looks up at the air duct and says,
"Hello, Woz." Later as the six are transformed by the
Mists Dewoz is turned into an Alpha Primitive. The flaw is now
evident. All change is not good.
Inhumans vol. 3 #3- Down in the bowels with the
Alpha Primitives Woz's power finally manifests itself. Woz
discovers that he can teleport through reflective surfaces.
Maximus says that he always believed in Woz even when the others
cast him down with the Alpha Primitives. Dewoz comes through the
mirror in Maximus' cell. He says, "I am Woz." Maximus
agrees and says that he is Woz's only friend in this godforsaken
place.
Inhumans vol. 3 #4- 
Maximus is holding a knife and wearing a lovely new hat
with fruit on it as Karnak and Gorgon come to his cell. Maximus
asks that a window be opened since it smells like a goat around
here. Gorgon says that he knows Maximus is up to something, and
he is going to figure it out. Maximus says that they are just
jealous of his new hat. Maximus says that his new friend brought
him the hat, but with Karnak and Gorgon's minds under his control
they can't see him. Gorgon threatens Maximus, but Maximus asks
what Gorgon will do…put him in prison? Maximus tells them
that visiting hours are now over. He asks that they give the
family his regards, and that he'll look them up when he gets out.
Maximus says, "…tell the fish I'll want my room
back." Karnak says he sees no flaw in the prison, and that
Maximus won't be going anywhere. Maximus says he can leave
whenever he wants, but he just doesn't want to yet. After they
leave Maximus looks up at his mirror. Woz floats in the mirror.
He tells Woz that he doesn't think they liked him. Later Woz runs
into Maximus' cell as he was being chased in the teleporting
dimension by Lockjaw. As Woz is panicking Maximus comments that
some drapes might brighten the cell up a bit. As Yuri Stalyenko
talks on his phone he is pulled through his mirror by Woz into
Maximus' cell. Maximus apologizes for "the moron".
Maximus says it's been a long time, and asks how Yuri got so fat
on a KGB salary. Yuri says he has other interests. Maximus says
he has a gift for Yuri that might make him the most powerful man
alive. Maximus says he wants to rule Attilan. He gives Yuri the
designs for the perimeter defenses, and then gives him a device
that will open the dome. Maximus says the "key" is a
sonic disrupter he cooked up to counteract Black Bolt's power,
but it failed. Maximus says that the key won't stay on once it is
teleported. Yuri needs to go get another made from his sample.
Later during a thunderstorm Stalyenko begins the attack upon the
defenses of Attilan.
Inhumans vol. 3 #5- Black Bolt won't attack the
humans. Yuri has the new Black Widow give the new "key"
to Mr. Bixby from the United States inside a small statue of
Abraham Lincoln giving the key to the city to General McIntyre.
The Inhumans send emissaries to the UN to get the soldiers
outside their city removed. Bixby has another US representative
give the statue to the Inhumans as a symbol of their support-
despite the fact that they cannot help the Inhumans because of UN
law. Maximus talks to Woz as the humans attack during a
thunderstorm. Maximus says that he and Woz will be leaving soon.
Maximus says that Woz shouldn't be afraid of the humans. He says
they make up for being so toxic with their sly intellects.
Maximus says they attack during the thunderstorm because the
current on the defenses must be turned down because of the
lightning. Yuri's attacks power up the wall because of nature of
the shield. The power is now so high that lightning strikes it.
Inhumans vol. 3 #6- The key is taken inside
Attilan. Yuri starts to destroy the next shield. Gorgon is
furious when a royal guard is killed and Black Bolt won't attack.
Maximus is looking for Woz under a piece of paper on the floor.
Medusa comes to see Maximus with Veritus, the truth seeker.
Veritus will know if Maximus is lying. Medusa asks what Maximus
knows about the human attackers. Maximus says he thought the
noise was Gorgon chasing rabbits in his sleep again. Veritus
tries to tell if Maximus is lying, but there is a telepathic
barrier in his mind. Veritus says that Maximus' mind is so
diseased that he believes his own lies. Telepaths now bolster the
remains of the shield. Black Bolt realizes to fight the humans
would invite others to join in against them, and too many humans
would mean incurable contamination. Maximus hits and shouts at
Woz for leaving him, but when Woz starts to cry Maximus
apologizes. Maximus cradles Woz's bloody face. He says it's all
their fault, but that they'll pay for their hubris. Black Bolt
orders retreat.
Inhumans vol. 3 #7-
Gorgon is outraged to find that many missing items are
found in Maximus' cell, but Maximus is gone. Maximus addresses
the Alpha Primitives. He says that together they can break the
chains of servitude. One of the Alpha Primitives asks aren't they
free. Maximus says they are a slave caste banished into the
depths because of their masters' shame. Maximus cuts off the
entire substructure from those above. He says they have seceded
from Attilan. The exits have been sealed off. One of the Alphas
says that Maximus is their king come to save them. Maximus says
that Woz is to thank after hiding his true identity from the
Terragin Mist, with his help of course. Maximus says Woz made it
possible for the key to affect the now dissolving inner shield.
Maximus says it is now time to see if those above like it when
they run the asylum. Attilan is now cut off from power and the
vid screens no longer work. Maximus appears in Medusa's mirror
with Woz. Maximus tells Medusa that he is responsible for Woz's
delay in evolution. Maximus mesmerizes Medusa. Maximus comes
through Medusa's mirror. He says he has dreamed of her for a long
time, and he can't wait to be king again so they can be boyfriend
and girlfriend. They'll lots of baby kings and queens. Woz picks
up Medusa. Maximus mentions that he has turned off the inner
defenses. Maximus appears to the people of Attilan on the vid
screens. He says he shares their pain, but not really as
everything is cozy and works in the substructure. Maximus says
that Medusa says, "umph" which he thinks means hello.
Maximus says Black Bolt shouldn't worry about Medusa, but his
throne. Maximus says that Black Bolt's arrogance bothers him. He
says he won't save his city or his wife. It's Black Bolt's fault
they will all die. Maximus can stop the assault. He says they'll
stop as soon as Maximus is given his throne back. Maximus says
that he has also discovered that there is a flaw in the earth's
crust under Attilan. He says one direct hit on the fault and the
whole city is going to be underwater again.
Inhumans vol. 3 #8- The Alpha Primitive that
stands guard over the ailing Woz tells Maximus that all Alphas
are saddened that Woz is dying. Maximus goes to Woz. He tells Woz
that the Alphas really like him, and since a good martyr is
priceless that Woz will need to stay trapped in the makeshift
Alpha body until he dies. Woz replies with, "I am Woz".
Maximus says, "That's the spirit, old chap. Up the
revolution, eh?" Later Maximus asks the chained Medusa if
she is comfy. Medusa says Black Bolt might feel sorry for him,
but that she will make him pay. Maximus says he sees why his
brother is silent because he can't get a word in edgewise.
Maximus threatens to cut off Medusa's hair. He says he'll be
happy to mess with her head as soon as he is done with Black
Bolt's.
Inhumans vol. 3 #9- Black Bolt, as always,
refuses to strike back at the humans. Everyone is starting to get
antsy about it. Maximus remains with Medusa in chains.
Inhumans vol. 3 #10- Maximus begins his court
hearing with the honorable judge him presiding. He charges Medusa
with wearing revealing clothing and random acts of mischief. When
Medusa doesn't reply Maximus calls his first witness, Woz. Woz
can't speak but Maximus says that before Woz went bonkers he told
Maximus that he blamed Black Bolt for everything. Medusa begs to
let Woz out of his mind control, but Maximus tells her to be
quiet. Medusa gets some of her hair free of its shackles. She
tries to attack Maximus, but he gains control of her again.
Maximus licks Medusa's face for a make up kiss. Later Maximus
apologizes to Woz for removing all the reflective surfaces, but
he didn't want him escaping before he could die. Maximus holds
Woz when Woz realizes that Maximus' eyes are reflective. Woz goes
into Maximus' head and forces Maximus to give him his true form
back. Maximus blames Medusa for causing him to lose the focus he
needed to control Woz. Maximus cuts all of Medusa's hair off.
Inhumans vol. 3 #11- Medusa allowed her hair to be cut.
As she lay on the floor her hair rises up to sever all power with
the city of Attilan- including the substructure. Maximus wants to
know who cut the power. The Alphas say that the disturbance comes
from the queen's quarters. One of the Alphas tell Maximus that
Black Bolt is coming. Maximus doesn't believe it. Even though
they no longer have power for the shield they are heavily
guarded. As Black Bolt walks closer and closer Maximus demands
Medusa be brought to him. Black Bolt gets closer and closer.
Maximus rubs his face and asks if somebody will please stop Black
Bolt. The Alphas all run. Maximus sees Black Bolt and commands
him to fall to the power of his mind. Black Bolt walks right up
to Maximus and hugs the back of his brother's head. Maximus asks,
"will I be punished?"
Inhumans vol. 3 #12- Black Bolt watches his
brother Maximus in his prison. Maximus looks at the mirror in his
cell. Black Bolt wonders if he would ever tell his brother the
manipulator that he had manipulated him. Attilan now sits on a
mountain in the Himalayas. The world believes that the city was
destroyed by the fault line that lay beneath Attilan, but it was
really teleported away by Lockjaw.
Inhumans vol. 4 #1- A spider crawls in through
a hole in Maximus’ cell. Maximus picks it up and drools.
Ronan the Accuser and the Kree attack and defeat the Inhumans.
Ronan takes all of Attilan with him. The Inhumans are descendants
of the Kree, and now the Kree have come to claim them as a
weapon. Maximus discovers the Kree when the electricity to his
padded cell cuts off. Maximus crawls down to the Alpha
Primitives. They are scared that they are no longer loved because
Mother Machine has stopped. Maximus calms them saying that Mother
Machine is just resting. He tells them their work shifts are over
until he says. Maximus tries to think of a way to turn this to
his advantage.
Inhumans vol. 4 #2- As the Inhumans' home is
jostled during the space flight the Alpha Primitives get scared.
Maximus tries to calm them down saying Mother Machine is just
recovering. Maximus promises that they will fight to see the
light again soon. He says to trust in him and his promises.
Inhumans vol. 4 #3- Maximus leads the Alpha
Primitives in a revolt. The Kree just start blasting away. After
the fight is over Maximus is brought before Ronan. Maximus asks
Ronan for mercy. Ronan is astounded that Maximus has been allowed
to live this long. He is impressed that his slave race, the
Inhumans, have developed their own slave race, the Alpha
Primitives. Ronan says that he knows how to manipulate Black
Bolt, but because Maximus loves nothing he is too much of a wild
card. Ronan banishes Maximus to the Negative Zone.
Fantastic Four vol. 3 #42 (471)- Reed Richards,
Sue, and Thing are in the Negative Zone chasing after some
pirates that are also invading the Negative Zone. Reed finds a
way to track their ion charge. They arrive too late once again as
the pirates have already attacked. They look at one of the
victims and see that he is an Alpha Primitive. Other Alpha
Primitives surround them and Maximus appears. Maximus offers them
something that his royal family never offered him- a truce.
Fantastic Four vol. 3 #43 (472)- Maximus stands
with the Fantastic Four and their allies in accordance with their
new truce. Maximus takes them to the old remnants of the Four
Freedoms Plaza. Maximus says that when he delivers them from the
Negative Zone that instead of being known as Maximus the Mad that
he will be known as Maximus the Magnificent. Reed tries to figure
out how to get out of the Negative Zone.
Fantastic Four vol. 3 #44 (473)- Maximus and
his Alpha Primitives stand with the Fantastic Four and Hellscout.
They are watching the Trapster and the Gideon Corporation try to
trap Annihilus. Reed has the old Fantastic Four flare gun that
Maximus found, and he has modified it to seal their portal. They
need a diversion so Maximus says to the Alpha Primitives,
“For the glory that is me…ATTACK!” Hellscout shoot
the seal through the portal. While the Fantastic Four is stopping
the flow of negative energy into our dimension Maximus takes off.
