Tyrant
If Galactus
were God then Tyrant would be his Devil. Tyrant was Galactus'
first herald. Tyrant was not a converted being, but created right
out of Power Cosmic that Galactus controls. Tyrant was originally
as tall as Galactus, but after Tyran tried to take over the
universe Galactus shrank him down. For eons Tyrant gained greater
and greater power until he felt he was ready to face his former
boss.
Cosmic Powers #6- flashback- At the universe's infancy Galactus decided to create for himself a being crafted in his own image, and gave it life. Tyrant was born. But Tyrant grew jealous of Galactus. While Galactus was satisfied to survive, Tyrant wanted to conquer and rule. Tyrant tried to take the universe from Galactus. The two had a fight beyond description. Galactus won and shrunk Tyrant, who was originally Galactus' height, down to around eight-foot or so.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #81- flashback- The Spinsterhood mistakenly believes that they cause Tyrant to withdraw.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #78- behind the scenes- Tyrant’s home is pictured in space.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #79- behind the scenes- Gladiator is days of flight from the crew monitoring his activities in space when he is surrounded by the intruders causing power reading anomalies. Gladiator is blasted into paralysis. Later Beta Ray Bill is about to go chase after Thor, who he believes is infected with Warrior’s Madness, when he too is blasted unconscious. Both Gladiator and Beta Ray Bill are pulled towards Tyrant’s home.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #80- behind the scenes- Tyrant’s activities warrant the computers of the Spinsterhood to revive Ganymede from suspended animation. Elsewhere Tyrant’s followers capture Morg and Terrax after they have a great power draining battle. Later Surfer finds Morg’s axe and comes face to face with Ganymede of the Spinsterhood who thinks that Surfer serves Tyrant.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #81- Silver Surfer track Terrax’s power signature from the Morg/Terrax battle scene to his home…Fortress. They are attacked by Tyrant’s troops. Ganymede explains to Surfer that they are only organic matter infused with power, and not true lifeforms, so Surfer doesn’t need to hold back. Surfer tells Ganymede to follow him as he is going to cut a path through them. After destroying them all Spinster asks Surfer to join her against Tyrant as his power will prove useful. Tyrant stands in the shadows and says that his power will be useful. Tyrant sees Ganymede and says that he thought he had seen the last of her kind. Ganymede says that she is the last of her kind. Tyrant says that she will be pleased to know that she will soon be joining her sisters. Tyrant unleashed massive power. Surfer tries to get back up, but Tyrant blasts him again rendering him unconscious. Surfer wakes up manacled to power drainers next to Beta Ray Bill, Terrax, Morg, Gladiator, and Ganymede. Surfer wonders why they are there, and Tyrant walks out of the shadows. He says that all of them possess great power, nothing compared to his, but great power. Tyrant says he will use them as living batteries to power Fortress and his troops. Tyrant says he has waited eons to regain his power so that he might reclaim his empire. Tyrant says that soon all will tremble at his feet. Galactus takes off to find Morg.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #82-
Tyrant tells his prisoners that escape is impossible,
and that they now exist only to serve him. Surfer asks Tyrant if
he thinks he cannot lose simply because he has captured them.
Tyrant tells Surfer that when Surfer’s ancestors still lived
in trees, and beat each other to death with jawbones of animals,
that he was a god who held the universe in the palm of his hand.
Tyrant says all will fear his name again. Ganymede says that she
and her Spinsterhood were Tyrant’s betters in the past, and
that someone will rise against him. Tyrant smacks Ganymede and
says that he is not interested in her version of the past. Surfer
shouts at Tyrant, but is suddenly wracked with pain. Tyrant says
the shackles are draining power slowly, but if he chooses he can
use them to drain the subject’s life force almost instantly.
Tyrant says that though he has a use for Surfer’s power, but
won’t hesitate to kill him. Tyrant says that there is always
someone else to take Surfer’s place. Tyrant’s troops
bring in Jack of Hearts. Jack says he doesn’t know who
Tyrant is, but spins real quickly and unloads in Tyrant’s
face. After the smoke clears Tyrant asks if he is finished.
Tyrant’s eyes blast Jack with power and Tyrant says that who
he is, is Jack’s master, and soon master over all. Tyrant
tells his troops to hook Jack up to the matrix, but Jack breaks
free of them. He says that he won’t be Tyrant’s
servant. Tyrant throws Jack against the wall and says he
wasn’t aware that he had given Jack a choice. Jack says that
he will never be held prisoner no matter what the cause. Jack
opens his new containment suit, and his power causes a massive
explosion. All of Tyrant’s prisoners are freed in the
explosion. Tyrant tells them to come at him, and that his empire
will be built on their corpses. Tyrant stands there as Surfer
blasts him. Tyrant’s troops swarm on the group. Surfer flies
at Tyrant, and says that they will decide this fight. Surfer says
that only one of them will be left standing after today. Tyrant
tells Surfer not to be so foolish as to believe that he will beat
him, and that Surfer’s power cosmic is nothing compared to
him. Tyrant says that Surfer cannot even harm him, much less
defeat him. Tyrant blasts Surfer back. Beta Ray Bill launches his
hammer into Tyrant’s chest. Tyrant doesn’t even flinch
as the hammer bounces off. Gladiator unleashes his full eye blast
at Tyrant. Tyrant’s eye blast meets Gladiator’s in the
air. Gladiator, Silver Surfer, and Beta Ray Bill team up to
attack Tyrant in unison. Tyrant says that it is time to end this.
Tyrant takes Beta Ray Bill out by punching into the ground, and
then hitting him into Gladiator. Tyrant eye blasts Gladiator, ad
then finishes him off with a punch. Tyrant turns to face Surfer.
He knocks Surfer to the floor, and says that none of them ever
stood a chance. Suddenly Ganymede is behind Tyrant and thrusts
her staff into the back of Tyrant’s head. Tyrant screams in
pain, but twists to eye blast Ganymede. He says he will savor her
death most of all. Surfer says that Ganymede’s interference
gave him the time to recover. Surfer says that only one of them
will remain, and Tyrant agrees. Their power meets and Surfer is
knocked out. Tyrant stands triumphant over all when suddenly
Galactus arrives. Tyrant says that Galactus risks much seeking
him out. Galactus says he doesn’t wish to dwell on the past.
Tyrant says he has done nothing but dwell on it for eons. Tyrant
says that Galactus’ interference lead to him being defeated
by peasants. Galactus says that Tyrant threatened the universal
stability he desired. Tyrant says that he has been gaining power
for eons, and means to get his empire back. Galactus says that he
will fight, but right now only seeks to retrieve his herald.
Tyrant asks which one is his herald. Galactus points to Morg.
Tyrant says that he is here as a conqueror, and doesn’t
intend to leave empty handed. Galactus says that war between them
would destroy everything, and that Tyrant even if he wins would
rule over only rubble. Tyrant agrees and decides to leave until
he is better suited to fight Galactus. Tyrant says that he will
require keeping a prisoner as a source of power. Galactus says
that he can have them all except Morg. Tyrant says that the only
one he wants is Morg. Galactus’ eyes flare, but decides that
it isn’t worth it, and lets Tyrant keep Morg. Tyrant tells
Galactus that if he values his herald he will leave now with the
rest of the rabble. Tyrant departs.
Cosmic Powers #1- behind the scenes- Thanos learns of Tyrant's existence and his recent past from the "god" (a robot filled with information) he captured and pilfered all his knowledge. Thanos decides to challenge Tyrant.
Cosmic Powers #2- Tyrant seen still holding Morg captive. Terrax tells Thanos about how Tyrant stores stolen energy.
Cosmic Powers #5- Morg shouts for Tyrant to release him so that he can destroy him. Tyrant says he doesn't think so. Tyrant asks why Morg will not yield to him. Morg says he will always be loyal to Galactus. Tyrant says Galactus is a pauper compared to him. Morg says nothing will ever break his loyalty. Tyrant says he can abuse Morg's mind as well as body. After Tyrant gets inside Morg's mind and sees that Morg has a history of throwing over one leader for another because they are more powerful than the last he asks why Morg won't join him. Morg says Galactus is the greater power. Tyrant's anger flares. While Tyrant is torturing Morg Thanos, Terrax, and Ganymede breach Tyrant's security. Tyrant gives Morg his power cosmic back, but also attaches to his head something that will control his body. The controlled Morg attacks. Morg smacks Ganymede. Thanos blasts him, but Morg tackles him. Thanos uses Terrax's axe to ward off Morg's strike. Ganymede distracts Morg, and Thanos blasts him. Thanos allows Terrax to battle Morg one on one. Terrax destroys the device on Morg's head controlling him. Morg stops the fight because though he says he will kill Terrax right now he must return to his master. After Jack of Hearts and Legacy join Thanos Tyrant comes out to confront them.
Cosmic Powers #6- Tyrant stands among his opposition and
points out that Thanos is missing. Tyrant says that nobody will
survive, and unleashes power on the group. Tyrant hits Terrax as
Ganymede leaps on him. Legacy flies over and says "How 'bout
we end this right now!". Tyrant agrees and smashes his face
against the ground. Tyrant asks Jack how they plan to even hurt
him much less defeat him. Jack blasts him and then hits him.
Tyrant smacks both Terrax and Jack. Tyrant smashes Jack's head
against the wall. Jack passes out. Ganymede kicks him and Terrax
axes him. Tyrant recognizes Galactus' mark on Terrax. He
unleashes power upon Terrax until he drops. Tyrant stands one on
one with Ganymede. Ganymede says her sisterhood caused Tyrant to
withdraw. Thanos returns with all the power Tyrant stole from
Morg. He reveals the truth about Tyrant's past and previous
withdrawal being caused by Galactus. Ganymede asks what else they
can use to defeat Tyrant. Thanos says "they" won't be
doing anything. Thanos knocks out Ganymede leaving Thanos one on
one with Tyrant. Tyrant asks what Thanos wants. Thanos tells
Tyrant that he is going to steal Morg's power and that when
Tyrant tries to stop him they will discover who is mightier.
Tyrant says that will only bring death. Thanos says he has
already known Death, and that she no longer wants him. Thanos
blasts Tyrant. Tyrant eyeblasts Thanos as he lifts him up and
throws him through the wall. Thanos grabs Morg's power and blasts
Tyrant. Thanos hits him with it, and says he had hoped for more
of a challenge. Tyrant stops Thanos' next hit and eyeblasts him.
Tyrant says he must be insane to seek him out as a challenge.
Thanos hits back and says that he has been told that before. The
others wake up and abandon Thanos. Tyrant blasts Thanos saying
his power is without equal. Thanos grabs both his hands and says,
"prove it". A gigantic explosion and Tyrant stands
alone, but only for a second as Thanos climbs out of the ground.
Tyrant says he will kill Thanos. Thanos says maybe, but he has
taken Tyrant's best and he considers himself the victor. Tyrant
says nobody steals from him. Thanos says he does and teleports
away. Later Tyrant withdraws into his stronghold where he has
thousands of power containers the smallest of which matches
Morg's.
Cosmic Powers Unlimited #3-flashback- After the Cosmic Powers limited series Tyrant punishes the race of beings that he had appointed protectors of his worldship by ripping the hearts out of every male member’s chest, and then throws them out into space.
Cosmic Powers Unlimited #3- Jakar, the rival of the Stranger, wants the globe of knowledge out of Tyrant’s power globe vault. Jakar resurrects Pespherone, another spinster, to team up with Ganymede and Jack of Hearts. Jack is to provide a distraction for Tyrant’s troops. Then Pespherone and Ganymede will take a mold of Tyrant’s hand, made from the chest of one of the beings who had their heart ripped out, and open the vault. This will awaken Tyrant from his mecha-catelepsy, and give Pespherone and Ganymede their shot at killing him. They get in and grab a globe. Tyrant is made aware of their presence, and wakes from his self imposed coma. Tyrant rants to himself that he has tolerated the spinsters plaguing him for centuries, but that their final extinction is at hand. By the time Tyrant is teleported to the vault the spinsters are gone. Jakar takes the globe, and says that their wants were never his concern. Jakar sends them all away. Tyrant realizes that they would not have left on their own accord. Tyrant sees the mold of his hand and recognizes as the work of Jakar.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #101- Tyrant summons his toady, and tells him to find Galactus.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #102- Tyrant says that soon his full plan will be laid out. Tyrant’s toady enters and says that they have found Galactus’ energy signature. It says that they can send any sort of holographic message that Tyrant wants. Tyrant says that his message is one best delivered personally. Tyrant tells his toady to engage Morg in order to gain audience with Galactus. Tyrant says he will convince Galactus that he seeks peace with him so that when his defenses are down he can strike.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #104- behind the scenes- Today alters its body into a ship and flies towards Galactus’ energy signature. Later as Toady arrives he senses that Morg is closing in on him. Morg smashes into Toady. He stands over Toady and says to prepare himself for the scrap heap. Toady says that he has a message for Galactus. Morg says that nobody sees Galactus without an appointment. Toady says that he has a message from Tyrant. Morg says that that was the absolute wrong thing to say. Toady says he comes in peace. Morg says that he will be going in pieces. Toady shoots Morg. Morg cuts off Toady’s arm. Toady says that Tyrant will be mad and Morg won’t have a leg to stand on. Morg says Toady won’t either, and chops off Toady’s legs. Morg says he hates Tyrant more than he hates Surfer. Toady asks if it is because Tyrant kidnapped him. Morg says it was because Tyrant forced him to team up with Surfer against him.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #105- behind the scenes- Morg takes Toady before Galactus. He tells Galactus that Tyrant is coming to work out the differences between them. Toady asks for an answer. Morg tells Galactus to let him cut Toady’s head off. Toady tells on Morg about his arm and legs. Morg gets ready to kill it, but Galactus tells him to stop. Galactus says that he figured this was coming. Galactus says that he and Tyrant feed off the same source of power. Morg guesses that everytime Galactus eats Tyrant grows weaker correctly. Galactus sends Toady back to Tyrant saying that he will meet him.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #106- As Galactus devourers another planet Tyrant writhes in pain from the power that is drained from him. Tyrant says that he has to deal with Galactus, and that there is only room for one despot of the universe. Toady asks if they should go. Tyrant says he was just savoring the irony that Galactus brought him into this world, and that he will be taking Galactus out of it.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #107-Tyrant’s ship lands on Worldship. He admires the size and technology. He tells Toady to remain on the ship since this is a private matter between he and Galactus. Tyrant says that with Galactus’ ship he would be unstoppable. Galactus says that he is the only thing that remains for him to face. Tyrant says he is glad that Galactus could receive him. Galactus says that he is aware that he and Tyrant feed off the same power. Galactus says that he created Tyrant that way as a means to keep his evil in check. Tyrant asks if it was that or if he created him that way to pre-determine his own fate knowing that Tyrant would rise up against him. Galactus says that his secrets are his own.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #108- Tyrant repeats that he is weakened when Galactus feeds on the ambient life force that binds the universe together because Tyrant feeds upon that force for his strength. Tyrant says one of them must die today. Galactus says that he has been likened to a force of nature. He says that he fights for survival, not glory. Tyrant says that he will have neither. Tyrant strikes first. Galactus strikes back, but makes the mistake of knocking him out of the ship where Tyrant can draw on the biospheric energy that powers him. Galactus rips the cables that extend from Tyrant’s head. Tyrant slashes Galactus. He tells Galactus that he fights not for vengeance, but for dominance. Tyrant says that he can regrow his appendages, but Galactus cannot. Galactus says he does not engage in fisticuffs. He traps Tyrant in his energy converter. Galactus plans to just drain the power right out of Tyrant. Galactus has the restraints clamp over Tyrant’s mouth to shut him up. Tyrant says that Galactus underestimates him. Tyrant says that he is the master of biotechnology. Tyrant re-routes Galactus’ energy converter to flow from Galactus to him instead of the other way around. Galactus screams in pain. Tyrant pounces on the felled Galactus and slashes his face. Galactus bleeds. Tyrant says that what can bleed, can die. He says Galactus’ head will soon adorn the front of his space cruiser. Tyrant is interrupted by Morg, who stands pointing the Ultimate Nullifier at him.
Silver Surfer vol. 3 #109-Morg says that he didn’t dig up the Nullifier without the intention of using it. Tyrant says that if he uses it he will destroy them all including his precious master. Galactus tells Morg to be careful with that thing. Morg says he would rather be nullified than work for Tyrant. Tyrant says that the second he puts down the Nullifier that he will cleave Morg in two. Galactus says that is unlikely, and tells Morg to kill Tyrant and quickly. Toady is trying to figure a way to harness the power so that his master would not be hurt. Tyrant repeats that they will all die if Morg uses it. Surfer can sense Galactus’ fear and rushes to Worldship. Toady leaps onto Morg and starts to bond himself onto his body. Toady morphs over Morg’s hand with the Nullifier. Tyrant yells at Toady again. Galactus tells Morg to give him the Nullifier. Morg says that he can’t because Toady has morphed over it. Toady starts to take over Morg’s body. Tyrant tells Toady to kill them both. Morg says that he is the landlord of his body, and Toady is evicted. Morg says that he will now use Toady’s body to kill Tyrant. Tyrant shouts not to point that at him. Morg laughs that Tyrant is afraid for the first time in his life. Tyrant says he is never afraid. Morg says he should be and blows away Tyrant’s lower half. Tyrant says this is going to cost Toady. Toady says it isn’t his fault, and that the Nullifier is also dissolving him. Surfer arrives and asks what is happening. Galactus says that Morg, Toady, and the Ultimate Nullifier have all morphed into an annoying all-powerful weapon of destruction. Morg blasts Tyrant again. Tyrant begs for his life, and offers Morg a position with him that will make him even more powerful. Surfer blasts Morg before he can kill Tyrant. Surfer says he needs Galactus’ help to take Morg down. Galactus tells Surfer to watch out for Morg. Morg starts shouting that only he has any loyalty. Morg says he wasn’t pretty or smart, but he was loyal. Galactus says that Toady won’t be able to contain the power much longer. He tells Surfer to escape and seals the Worldship hoping to contain the power. Morg says if Galactus wants to die that is fine, but he chops off his own arm, and then cuts a hole through Worldship. He isn’t fast enough however, and all within Worldship are killed.
