The U-Foes

Simon Utrecht contracted Mike Steel to build him an unshielded space craft for one reason: to recreate the original flight of the Fantastic Four, but with even less shielding in effect making them even more powerful. The U-Foes are not the self sacrificing type, however and have spent their lives both using their powers for evil purposes, and attempting to get revenge upon their most hated enemy- The Incredible Hulk.

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #254

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #273-277-A jet that collects radiation to judge the ozone somehow manages to pick up and free X-Ray from the high altitude he had been trapped at. Ironclad emerges, shining from his trip to the center of the earth, and looks to find the other U-Foes. Ironclad waits at Utrecht Industries until Vector, Vapor, and X-Ray show up. The U-Foes attack Bruce Banner, now in control of the Hulk, at Gamma Base. The teamwork has gotten better, and the team holds their own against Hulk until X-Ray hits Hulk with negative gamma rays. Hulk transforms back into Banner. Ironclad smacks him and when Banner tries to get up Vapor gases him unconscious. Vector decides they should show the world that the U-Foes have captured the Hulk so that no one dare oppose them. XRay keeps Banner helpless on an energy-grid and continues exposing him to the negative gamma rays. Bereet's, alien girlfiend of the Hulk,  creations attack the U-Foes. Betty and Rick get Bruce off the grid. As the Hulk, Bruce captures X-Ray within the energy grid. When Vapor becomes an acidic gas Hulk thrusts Ironclad into her. Vapor must then transform into an anesthetic gas to ease his pain. Hulk keeps advancing on Vector's repulsor rays until he is able to grab Vector's hands crushing them.

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #278- Doc Samson arrives on Gamma Base to find the Hulk gone, but the U-Foes are all left tied up or stuck where they are.

Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #304-305- The U-Foes are revealed to be in a special prison which nullifies their powers. The U-Foes' lawyer argues with the prosecutor about the legality of their incarceration. The prosecutor offers the U-Foes a deal, but when she passes the paper through the nullifying field it breaks the field. Vector exerts so much of his repelling power than the U-Foes are transported out of our reality, and into the Crossroads where they find the Hulk. They of course attack him. Hulk fights the U-Foes, but really gains the upper hand when the Puffball Collective intervene. Puffball tricks X-Ray into a world where the inhabitants feed on radiation. With Vapor around him Hulk jumps into a world with no atmosphere. Unhappy Hulk returns to Crossroads, Vapor does not. Ironclad is transported to a world made of quicksand. Vector tries blasting the Hulk again, but Hulk advances until Vector loses his balance and falls into a world where he must always use his powers to deflect flying debris.

Avengers #304- The Avengers are attempting to stop Puma from capturing a boy named Charles Little Sky. Before he can stop Charles though his power rages out of control and opens a portal that the U-Foes walk through. Vector blasts the boy, Puma, and the Avengers out the window. X-Ray blasts Thor, Ironclad attacks Gilgamesh, Vector repels Captain America, and Vapor fills Puma and Charles' lungs with carbon monoxide. Puma tries to stop her but Ironclad grabs him up in a bearhug. A recovered Thor hurls his hammer and stops Ironclad from killing Puma. Thor then disperses Vapor with a whirlwind. Cap knocks X-Ray down with his shield. Puma knocks Vector into Thor who nails him. X-Ray and Vector attack Thor. Thor absorbs the energy of X-Ray, exhausting the villain, and directs the radiation he absorbed at Vector. He then zaps Vapor with a bolt of lightning shocking her back into human form. Cap trips Ironclad with his shield and Gilgamesh then levels him with a punch. The Vault picks the U-Foes up.

Avengers West Coast #53- After escaping from the Vault Ironclad, Vapor, and X-Ray re-unite at their base to find it leveled. The group sees a piece of tape which shows Iron Man killing Vector. The team decides to take revenge on the West Coast Avengers. Vapor appears suddenly as cyanide gas around a catatonic Scarlet Witch. Wonder Man flies her away as Iron Man sucks Vapor into a holding tank within his armor. Vapor starts to seep through however so Iron Man blows her out of his suit. Ironclad attempts to sneak attack Iron Man but is punched miles from Avengers compound. The original Human Torch goes to see what is happening, but is blasted by X-Ray. Ironclad figures since he was knocked too far from the fight that he will bring the fight to him by starting a rampage. Ironclad starts throwing cars and buses. Scarlet Witch then recovers somewhat and hexes Vapor back into her human form. But then Vector shows up and explains that he isn't dead- Vector hadn't even fought Iron Man. X-Ray returns with a defeated Human Torch. Realizing they had been used as pawns the three decide to leave and go to pick up Ironclad.

Avengers Spotlight #27- U-Foes seen during their battle with the West Coast Avengers.

Avengers: Death Trap:The Vault- The U-Foes are part of Venom's plan to escape from the Vault. Ironclad goes with Goliath and Titania to knock down all the walls seperating the cell blocks. Ironclad later joins Thunderball's group who are attempting to escape on their own. X-Ray, along with the Wrecker and Gray Gargoyal, attempt to team with Freedom Force against the Avengers, but when the Avengers show Freedom Force double crosses them. Ironclad, Thunderball, and Electro lose to Captain America and She-Hulk. The U-Foes are later hypotized as a result of Iron Man manipulating Mentallo's powers.

Darkhawk #6- Charles Little Sky, aka Portal, is recovered enough to be moved to the Vault. The U-Foes however have other plans for him. They want him to take them to a dimension that Vector spotted, back when the group was at Crossroads, that contained energy crystals. Captain America is there to supervise the move to the Vault. Darkhawk was on is way to see Portal, and Daredevil happened to be near the hospital- both join in the fight. The heroes hold their own until the U-Foes take a mother and her baby hostage. Dardevil tries to ambush the group and while they deal with him Darkhawk rescues the mother and baby. Again the fight goes on until Portal awakens and distracts the U-Foes. Darkhawk's darkforce blast takes out Vector and Ironclad. Captain America hits X-Ray with his shield causing him to hit Vapor with some x-rays. A "feedback loop" knocks them both out.

Heroes for Hire #12-flashback- The U-Foes approach White Tiger on behalf of the Master. White Tiger does a job for the Master in exchange for the whereabouts of the Man-Beast, whom she has sworn to destroy.

Heroes for Hire #1- The U-Foes break out a number of villains from the Vault. Later the U-Foes get in a sneak attack on the Hulk. Vapor fills Hulk's lungs and before Hulk figures out what is going on Ironclad levels him with a boulder. Vector attaches a disc to the Hulk's neck allowing them to control the Hulk. The U-Foes with Hulk kidnap a group of scientists in the United Nations. The U-Foes uses discs to sap the scientists' knowledge. Hercules, White Tiger, and Iron Fist attempt to stop the group. Iron Fist breaks the disc on the Hulk's neck freeing him from their control. Hercules and Hulk batter Ironclad around, but since the U-Foes got what they had come for they leave while the heroes attend to the scientists.

Heroes for Hire #2 The U-Foes attack Luke Cage while he is at a private screening of an Aliens movie. While Luke pounds Ironclad Vapor fills Luke's lungs. X-Ray blast Cage, and Ironclad finishes him off.

Heroes for Hire #4- The Master wants the U-Foes to set up the Controller and allow themselves to be captured. The U-Foes say they will not be captured because if they are they will inform the heroes as to the Master's plans. So they go simply to set up the Controller. They also inform the Master that this will be their last job for the Master. Master grudgingly agrees. The Controller and the U-Foes go to fight the heroes. Luke Cage knocks out Ironclad. Vapor slips a disc onto Iron Fist allowing Controller to, uh well control him. White Tiger frees Fist. As the U-Foes prepare to ditch Controller Vector presses something on his wrist which, apparently, was supposed to teleport the group. Instead it electrocutes the five villains leaving them to be captured. Because they are knocked out the U-Foes cannot rat on the Master. The Master may still have some control over the U-Foes.
