Ultimo
Ultimo was once
the bane of many space faring peoples. He was referred to as the
Devastator or “He-Who-Destroys”. A group from the
planet Rajak that Ultimo had destroyed came seeking vengeance,
but Ultimo was too powerful for them. They were forced to flee
and led Ultimo into a meteor cluster near the planet Earth. The
meteors knocked both Ultimo and those from Rajak to Earth. Ultimo
landed in China where he laid inert until he was discovered by
the Mandarin.
Iron Man vol. 3 #24- flashback- Ultimo attacks the planet of Rajak and kills every inhabitant. Sapper and his merchantmen were off planet at the time, but when they discovered what Ultimo did they took off after him for vengeance, but Ultimo was too powerful for them. They were forced to flee and led Ultimo into a meteor cluster near the planet Earth. The meteors knocked both Ultimo and Sapper’s people to Earth. Sapper was the only one to survive, but his people consciousness was uploaded to be accessed later.

Avengers annual #1- Mandarin had a plan and only one of his three teams to succeed to take over the world. Power Man and Swordsman failed, as did Enchantress and Executioner. Living Laser was defeated, but then Mandarin’s surprise, Ultimo, climbs out of an about to erupt volcano. Thor flies off to face Ultimo. Ultimo tries to eye blast Thor, but Thor just dodges. Thor strikes with a thousand thousand thunderbolts, but Ultimo doesn’t seem to feel it at all. Thor throws the hammer, but Ultimo’s rays stop Mjolnir’s path and knocks it away from Thor. Ultimo’s beams separate Thor from his hammer. Thor tries to run hoping it will lure Ultimo from the hammer, but Ultimo doesn’t move. Thor throws a boulder at Ultimo, but Ultimo’s beams disintegrates it. Mandarin is pleased with Ultimo and praises the day he found him. Hawkeye distracts Ultimo and lets Thor get his hammer. Ultimo has Hawkeye, but Thor hits Ultimo so hard that it drops him. Thor knocks Ultimo back into the volcano. He caves in the volcano and then cools the rubble with rain.

Iron Man vol. 3 #23- Tony Stark arrives on the SS Joseph
C. Gillis, research vessel built by Stark-Fujikawa, to see
Rumiko. Morgan Stark is also there to greet Tony. He asks Tony if
Rumiko told him about the ship’s new power source. They head
below and show Tony that the SS Gillis is built on top of Ultimo.
Tony is stunned, but Rumiko and Morgan say that their engineers
are second to none and have found a way to tap Ultimo’s
power. Stark has Jocasta show Rumiko and Morgan Ultimo’s
past. Stark suggests that they evacuate the ship and that Ultimo
is even bigger than the last time Iron Man defeated it. Morgan
says that they found a way to activate Ultimo’s growth
systems. Rumiko yells at Tony and tells him to leave, but Rumiko
soon calls and says that the ship is under attack by Goldenblade
and Sapper. Sapper goes below and starts absorbing the
ship’s energy. Rumiko hopes that he doesn’t extract the
wrong energy. Iron Man arrives and fights Goldenblade and Sapper.
Iron Man knocks them out when after Sapper notices Ultimo’s
presence and tells Goldenblade. They are stunned and Iron Man
knocks them out. Later Ultimo’s arm starts to move and his
eyes open.
Iron Man vol. 3 #24
- Ultimo wakes up and rises out of the water. The SS
Gillis, which was on its back, is tossed into the water.
Rumiko’s phone falls into the water before she can call
Stark. Goldenblade and Sapper help the surviving crew by taking
them off the wreckage and then freeing up the lifeboats. Iron Man
is fighting a drunk Warbird when he gets the message from Jocasta
that Ultimo has awakened. Ultimo blasts Sapper with his eye
beams. Iron Man arrives and blasts Ultimo in the back of the
head, but Ultimo just swats Iron Man with his hand. Ultimo then
stops treading water and sinks to the ocean floor. Ultimo starts
walking. Iron Man gets back to the ship but Ultimo is gone. Iron
Man gets Ultimo’s true past from Goldenblade and Sapper.
Goldenblade and Sapper have been scavenging for power since then
hoping to get enough power to save the uploaded consciousness of
the last of Sapper’s people, but now Ultimo has scanned the
location of Sapper’s secret base and is headed there to
finish the job he started ages ago. Iron Man discovers that to
get to the base Ultimo will most likely trample the city of
Spokane on his way there.
Iron Man vol. 3 #25- Ultimo has made his way through
Raymond, Washington. With each step it takes Ultimo crushes
trucks, trees, and more with its giant feet. Iron Man and a few
jets catch up to Ultimo. The jets are firing on Ultimo, but it
doesn’t even notice. Iron Man flies at Ultimo with an
electro-magnetic field targeter. Ultimo fires eye beams at Iron
Man, but Stark just dodges them. Iron Man flies onto the middle
of Ultimo’s back and places the E-M field targeter where
Ultimo can’t reach it. A bolt of lightning strikes
Ultimo’s back on the EM field targeter, but this time Ultimo
isn’t affected. Iron Man guesses that Ultimo must have made
alterations to itself while it was dormant. Ultimo blasts Iron
Man out of the sky with eye beams, but Iron Man gets his boot
jets started again in time. Iron Man takes off to get help from
the Avengers, but they are in Slorenia. He runs a diagnostics on
his armor and then goes to recruit Goldenblade and Sapper from
Sapper’s secret hideout where the remnants of his race are
“stored”. Pepper contacts him there and says that
Ultimo has almost reached Spokane. She wishes the Mandarin was
about since he knew how to program it. Iron Man gets an idea and
tells Rumiko and Morgan to get him the codes they used when they
were controlling Ultimo. Iron Man, Goldenblade, and Sapper take
off to try and stall Ultimo. Ultimo is fighting off two jets. He
blasts one to pieces with an eye beam, and that causes the
missiles to go haywire and hit the other jet. Ultimo steps on a
house as people are still be evacuated. Iron Man blasts Ultimo
and draws his attention. From behind Goldenblade’s knives
actually pierce Ultimo’s armor. Sapper then starts to suck
energy out of Ultimo through the blades. Ultimo swats Sapper
away. The Eagle Squadron had showed up to help stall Ultimo, but
Ultimo palms the last one and crushes it in his hand. Iron Man
manages to deploy the missiles via remote. They hit Ultimo right
in the face, but Ultimo just laughs. A sober Warbird arrives and
heads out to get the codes for Iron Man. Iron Man calls out to
Ultimo. When Ultimo turns its head Iron Man fires a pulse bolt
into Ultimo’s eye. Ultimo grabs his eye in pain and swats
Goldenblade. Warbird returns with the codes. She keeps Ultimo
swinging at her as Iron Man puts the codes onto Ultimo’s
back. Iron Man has almost cracked the core when Warbird snatches
him out of the way of Ultimo’s eye beam. Stark reaches
Ultimo’s central program. Iron Man orders Ultimo to stop.
Ultimo says that he obeys none but the Masters, and that they
have not contacted him in millennia. He adds that Iron Man is not
a Master. Ultimo is about to step on a bus when Iron Man shouts,
“Ultimo! I am your Master! You must stop.” Ultimo
freezes and then falls over with one leg in the air. Iron Man
powers up Sapper’s ship with Ultimo’s energy and sends
him on his way. Ultimo is being taken apart piece by piece.
